I sincerely hope we’re already having conversations about this rather than waiting for the next CBA because I don’t know how these rules are helping the owners or the players. Like, I get the idea behind it but the how its played out practically has been awful for the league.
The rules help in the long term by making stars more “loyal” and making it harder to build super teams, which increases league parity and improves the overall product. They hurt teams’ and star players’ flexibility in the short term, but this sort of mid-season crash out with stars jumping from mid team to contender is what the league wants to avoid because it does hurt the value of the NBA product.
