Honestly I think it’s just a professional courtesy, however it comes off as pretty fucked up for traditions and norms: “Hey Chris, you are not a part of this team’s plans to play in the future any longer; we are shifting organization priorities and your services are no longer needed. I can’t really think of a team that needs CP3 less than the Lakers. They have plenty of ball handlers that they can cycle through, they are already slow and athletically challenged at the guard position, he can’t defend at all, and they don’t really need his mentoring.

Unless they want to do him a solid so he can end his career in LA they have absolutely no reason to sign him.

i think they can use a disabled player exception from sorber and topic being out to sign him, but don’t quote me on that. just think it’d be poetic for the young guard he mentored to carry him to a ring in his final season, and i think it’s a given that he will want to be on a contender now that he has the opportunity so why not pick the best team in the league that he also happens to have ties to?

The Hornets were in OKC for 2 years after that, so OKC was really his first home team.
