NBA screens are probably the ugliest part of the modern game
Im not an old-head; I love a lot of the aesthetic of the post “3pt revolution” nba. But the universal tolerance for blatant moving screens on every single play is gross. It’s moderately unsafe, and it very visibly gives the offense a huge advantage on every screen for the ballhandler, unless the on-ball defender is Lu Dort. Aside: this is why popular opinion will never sway me on Lu Dort; the way he deals with the unfairness of modern ball screens is cathartic.
I just was watching steve nash highlights, and saw Amare set a normal screen; not a moving screen where he steps up to impede the defender, just a normal screen. It was prime Steve nash being guarded by a spurs joe shmoe, and I was thinking how much more boring the play would be if Amare got away with the ju jitsu they do today.
Rant over.
