OKC is a great team, but a major reason for this is because SGA plays winning basketball.

Efficiency, defense, ball protection, clutch decision making, those are all heavily weighted towards winning.

Going into this season, it was passing/playmaking and a consistent 3 point shot.

So far we’ve seen large improvements on both of these. Ironically the only thing keeping him out of the 50/40/90 club is his FT % lmao

Teams try to hunt him on defense in order to tire him out, and he consistently steps up to the plate.

It’s very much a Kobe mentality to lock in defensively and take it as a challenge to guard the opponent’s best players.

Too many offensive-first players are happy to get blown by or give up easy looks just so they can get the ball back and get their “revenge” on the offensive end.

Advanced stats are terrible at determining how good someone actually is. Someone could be completely open and miss a shot, and shai could be the closest player. It would count as a miss caused by shai

It’s probably inflated a bit on SGA’s side due to being on a really good defensive squad. He’d be contesting more late shots or difficult shots due to great team defense.

I think the most it shows is that people hunt the Luka matchup, which I think everyone knew.

yea. i think Shai is a top 15 (perimeter) defender in the nba. if there was an all-defensive third team, he would have been on it the last 2 years.

thunder fans are perfectly content with that level of production in the regular season. shai is a big reason why we are elite on both offense AND defense. he does the carrying, not the other way around
