Yea as much as fans are completely on the tank train (and understandably so) IMO we are at a spot where we really should not trade MPJ unless we get a deal too good to be true. I’m keeping the phone lines open and listening to offers but I’m not trading him for the sake of it. Some fans think you can rebuild by simply throwing a bunch of super young guys out there and hoping things work out but having vets around is important, both in helping guys acclimate to the league and helping to evaluate the roster. You can’t evaluate a young PG’s ability to hit the open shooter if you dont have guys who are proven to be able to get open in the first place, nor can you evaluate a young rim-running big mans ability to roll+finish in the lane if you dont have guys who are proven to be able to make those reads+passes. And it isnt like MPJ is some “vet” whose value is predominantly intangible. Man is in the prime of his career, playing at an all-star level, has championship experience, and if he can continue staying healthy, his contract is not even that bad (especially to a team who is gonna be mostly rookie contracts next year). We shouldnt exactly be in a rush to get off of him. We already have plenty of picks going forward and the young guys currently on the roster are starting to show real flashes. Getting another protected 1st and a worse contract for MPJ doesnt really do much for me. We’ve accumulated plenty of assets with the trades we’ve already done. Its time to actually start cashing in.

The way I see it, if he “hurts the tank” the rest of the season while the team is giving extensive minutes to all these rookies/young guys, its probably a sign that the young guys we already have are pretty damn good and we arent as desperate for a top pick as we may seem. Now, I still do want a top pick, dont get me wrong. But with the new lotto odds, I dont think its worth trading a player of MPJ’s caliber for the sake of a couple more ping-pong balls. If we win enough games that our odds are seriously hindered ,we’re probably closer than we think to being competitive and considering we dont own our pick next year, at that point I dont think it makes a difference if we’re picking 4th vs 8th (Especially considering the guys we got at pick 8 and later last year).

That specific 5 has never been healthy and probably never will be.

But Brandon Miller being out shouldn’t be an excuse to look uncompetitive against a 3 win team.

At some point the excuses have to stop. It’s been years of this. Like literally 4 years.

Injuries suck, and it’s hard to win without your best players but this team goes non verbal drooling all over the court when they don’t have 100% of their team active.

Grant Williams and Josh Green are not going to magically turn this team competitive either.

We have loads of good picks going into next years draft and 2027. 2 of our starters have are rookies that have played 20 games in the nba. Lamelo will probably never be available for a full game or some b2bs, but it’s too soon to rule out Brandon miller being consistently available given his injury history. You could be right but I think it’a a small sample size to say confidently. Also I think having 2 vets available would absolutely help. Not sure how less minutes for players like sion, Tidjuane fucking salaun and reeves (who?) wouldn’t be a net benefit for the team.

If you look at the team history as a whole, your analysis is pretty much spot on. But if you solely look at the team from the start of the new FO and consider our assets and the players we can acquire in the next 2 years, it’s too soon to rule out what the hornets will be looking like in a couple of years.
