I’m not sure that it doesn’t look sustainable. I watched the OT game last week. He was +39 in a 5 point overtime win. When he is out there; the other team accounts for him at every second of the game at both ends of the floor. Defensively; he just shuts everything down. There’s no easy paint points with him in there and gets all the rebounds.

Offensively, he must be the best screen setter and offensive rebounder besides Steven Adams in the league. But on those rim rolls- he is so incredibly dangerous.

One of the theories against him was that teams would go small and punish him. But he’s proving the opposite- if you go small against him; Memphis will score every possession because he’s either going to ram it in or get all the rebounds. So teams have to play big and then there’s nobody in the league that can physically handle him (except Welby).

Basically these look like they could be sustainable.

I’m an Edey believer and was cheering for Purdue in the finals. Hope he brings Canada a gold one day. One thing I’ll mention is that it’s crazy that he’s nearly two years older than Wemby. Hopefully both stay healthy continue to develop and have long careers but I hope Edey sucks everytime he plays the Spurs.

The dumbest part of that laughably bad draft grade she gave out was that literally every other pick got at worst a B-. On what planet are ²⁹⁄₃₀ picks going to hit at a B- grade or better? Those grades proved that she just doesn’t understand how the draft plays out at all.

For what it is worth, as a Purdue fan UConn was the one team I didn’t want to see in that championship. Clingan was the only one in the country I thought had any chance of making Edey work for his points without any help. That let the rest of the Huskies key in on shutting down Purdue’s perimeter game.

Purdue fan here. Edey was/is awesome, but man, you guys were just too much. I knew 5 minutes into that game we didn’t have a chance, even though the score was still close. We were just completely overmatched.

Yeah, I think everyone defaults to the super-tall prospect being a Taco Fall or Boban.

Their thinking just short-circuits. His final year and combine was more than enough evidence that he had more to work with.

Not counting the game against Denver where he only played 6 minutes, Memphis are 5-2 since Edey’s return. In that 7-game span, Memphis is +103 with him on the floor and -56 when he sits. Literal superstar impact, and it matches the eye test, too.

If he ever learns how to pass out of a double team he has legit mvp potential.

JJJ has actually been playing pretty decently since Edey came back he’s just not playing better than Edey lol

I don’t know if I’d go that high averages wise but I do think Boban was a much better player than his stats show or that his playing time would indicate. He was legitimately skilled.

This. People who doubted him only watched college highlights. They questioned his defense and agility because Purdue’s gameplan was to have him go at 70% and concede the shot if he was beaten because they knew the team was screwed if he wasn’t on the court. But there would be about five minutes a game where he would go all out and you could see the pro-level athleticism.
