He was, but I doubt people expected him to put up the lines he’s pumping out right now.

He’s at 20.3 ppg, 3.6 apg, 3.2 rpg, 1.5 stocks on 48/38/85 shooting splits since Trae has gone down.

I personally had some pretty high expectations. I definitely didn’t think he’d step his scoring up to this level when we absolutely had to have it come from somewhere. Especially given he hasn’t had a proper 1 to set the table for everyone.

Oh I expect them to. That’s kind of my point though. It’s kind of jarring to see how consistently he’s been able to get buckets from every level on the floor without Trae setting the table.

When Trae does get back I expect NAW’s minutes and volume will take a hit. The quality of his looks should skyrocket though. That’ll be when we can really start judging what we’re going to get from him imo.

People take a slow start to the season while integrating a number of new players, when Trae was playing, and compare it against everything else this season, while Trae has not been playing. When they really should be comparing this Hawks team to last season’s, because it’s clear the roster is just better overall and Trae’s integration will only add to that.

By the way, the Trae-led hawks beat the Cavs twice last year, but during the early season when Jalen Johnson was healthy. That duo can only be better going forward with Jalen’s increased confidence
