Steven Adams discussing Thanksgiving
Not nearly as much Steven Adams posts on this sub in the recent 2020s I notice
If we replaced all the Jonathan Kuminga posts with Steven Adams posts this sub would be a much better place
But the people don’t want that, they want drama, negative news.
This sub will complain that ESPN is toxic garbage, yet that’s exactly the type of content they eat up.
TBH, if we replaced posts about almost anybody or anything on reddit with Steven Adams posts, it’d be an improvement.
This place would be tolerable.
There’s not nearly enough Steven Adams content in general. Dude is just hilarious and fun to watch talk about anything.

damn what happened lol this guy was and still is a gem in the nba. every video of him is hilarious
It’s dry 😂 Couldn’t agree more Mate
Find someone that knows how to cook
It can be done well but it’s still naturally a dry meat. Throw a pork butt or brisket in the oven and I guarantee it comes out juicer.
Brisket is famously juicy so that seems unfair, turkey can be damn juicy its own damn self if you do it right.
Source: we cooked a juicy ass turkey just yesterday
Its not unfair to say that its juicier when it simply is
I’d say it’s not fair to compare the two bc brisket’s way juicier from all the rendered fat. Turkey’s a lot like chicken where if you cook it right, it can be juicy and delicious. But it’s wayyy easier to fuck up. Especially the breasts.
Heard far more horror stories about the bird than it has any right to be. Maybe having to ask everyone to find a good cook to cook it right is the problem here, the bird’s just terrible for your average family meals.
That some people can cook a bomb delicious meal out of it doesn’t really mean much I think.
Editdit: but for real turkey looks really delicious, is it really that bad when not cooked right????
The same people that would feed you a dry turkey would also feed you dry chicken. It’s not that difficult bud
Man I thought dry turkey was the norm all my childhood. In her 40s my mom took on the wonders and joys of cooking as more of a hobby and passion, actually it’s something she and my sister and I have gotten to bond over since we’ve become adults as we both love to cook too.
But anyways, mannnnn my mom makes the best damn Turkey now. It’s not dry at all, every bite is succulent. Pretty dope to see her learn a new skill and transform her abilities as a cook. If ur reading this it’s never too late to take on a new skill or new knowledge!! If you’ve only had dry turkey there are Greater possibilities out there.
The part that’s difficult is cooking a whole bird evenly. I can easily make really good chicken/turkey thighs and breasts separately. Cooking them together is difficult because they require different temperatures
I will take your word for it, becuz I want to live in a world where every turkey I see tastes just as delicious as they look. Preach good cooking
Thighs, legs, and drumsticks are basically impossible to fuck up. I’ve fallen asleep while cooking them and they still come out great.
The breast and wings can get overcooked/dried out, but if you just put the lid on once the skin is browned then you’ll be fine as long as you cook to the right temperature. It really isn’t that hard.
The best cooked turkey is still inferior to basically every other easily accessible meat
Sure but if it’s still someone that can’t cook it doesn’t matter. Bad steak happens too.
You clearly never had truly juicy turkey. When you cook that shit right it’s flames, but it is difficult to get right
I have. Its possible to have had a properly cooked turkey and to not prefer it over anything else… its hilarious people here are acting like turkey is the pinnacle of meat and if you dont think so, its because you havent cooked it right. I’m shocked more fine dining restaurants aren’t featuring turkey the way yall salivating over it lmao
100%, turkey leg hut has a hold on people for a reason
Lol, if your evidence of turkey somehow being superior to other meats is one restaurant in Houston that couldnt stay in business idk what to tell you…
No, my comment is that Turkey can be fucking delicious as proven by the fact that people have made it fucking deliciously
Dark meat
same here just wanna nap instead of dealing with this stuff
It kills me when I hear this. People, you’re doing it wrong. The way to eat Thanksgiving food isn’t to eat one bite of one dish at a time; it’s to combine a little bit of each dish – at minimum the turkey (with gravy!), the stuffing, the green bean casserole, and the sweet potato casserole – together in one big forkful and eat them all simultaneously. The flavors and textures are designed to perfectly complement each other. If you’re just eating the turkey by itself and complaining that it’s dry, you have no one to blame but yourself.
If the turkey is dry then it wasn’t made right. Someone get him a plate and he’ll recant haha
It’s why I pay a ridiculous amount of money every year for ham and turkey from Honeybaked Ham.
Rather overpay for delicious turkey that I don’t have to prep in any way, versus saving money and being unhappy with dry bird
Turkey might be the land animal with the biggest difference in quality between cooking methods. Like steak tastes good medium rare or medium well, but if your turkey is off by five degrees it can ruin all the white meat.
Even white meat chicken takes some skill. It’s hard to fuck up dark meat but white meat turns to jerky real fast if you’re not careful or don’t do something to seal in the juices.
It’s because it’s one of the largest animals that is often consumed whole and yet isn’t slow cooked/braised/smoked.
The bigger the animal and the bigger difference there’s going to be in the internal temperature of the different cuts based on the geometry of the animal, the more likely the parts with less fat will dry out or parts with more connective tissue won’t soften.
If you tried to cook a whole cow in a giant oven in 2-3 hours you’d for sure have some dry ass ribeyes or inedibly tough short ribs.
A whole lot of people smoke their turkeys overnight for Thanksgiving.
This is the ONLY singular piece of fact that has ever been posted on this sub because ain’t that the truth lol
It’s all about the brine. If you brine your turkey first it won’t come out dry. Just a basic brine of salt water (make sure it states like the ocean) and your turkey will always stay moist and delicious. Then with your brine add some spices and whatever you want. Secondly blast the high heat whenever you start to cook your turkey to get the skin crisp as fast as possible. Then when it does turn down the temperature of the oven. This will help make sure that the moisture is hard to escape. Another trick is rub some mayo on it or some other fat turkey breast is some lean meat and the fat will help with the moisture and also with crisping up the skin. Cover your turkey with plastic and foil after it cooks for awhile. This helps with keeping moisture in and is sort of like a pressure cooker. Add water to the pan when doing this. This will do two things help it cook faster (which you need to do to help it not be dry) and creates a nice broth that you can use to make soup, stock, or baste the turkey. As a Chef I’ve cooked Turkey for 27 years catering and all these will help in some way or another.
IMO turkey is best cold cut thinly sliced and in a sandwich
Medium Well is cooking steak to 150F. Any more and you’re getting closer to Well Done.
Most recipes will advise you to pull the chicken/turkey at 150-155F. When people complain about dry chicken/turkey, it’s because they cooked it to the equivalent of Well Done (or higher).
With a steak you can also very easily tell visually how cooked it is. You know before you put it in your mouth that the steak isn’t going to be great, but the turkey can go unnoticed until it’s your tastebuds that reveal the tragedy.
Somebody needs to make this man a spatchcocked turkey or one done in parts so the breast doesn’t overcook/dry out
https://imgur.com/a/304es20 (first attempt)
Edit: Based on comments, it seems that most of us need this tbh
If your turkey is dry it is overcooked - just like chicken can be. Most people don’t know how to cook it properly. Same with fish (salmon) usually
Yep, made a spatchcock this year. I don’t mind turkey normally because my family knows how to cook it but the spatchcock is really the way to go for sure if you want to avoid overcooking.
This is my method on an indirect smoker. Herbs, salt, and butter. Family is coming today and you best believe we are going to have some juicy smoked turkey.
Don’t fall for it. Thats how the cuzzies trick you into making them free food.
You’re the type to show up with containers, arent you?
That’s fucking gorgeous dude. Did you spatchcock it yourself? I’ve done it for chickens but already feels like my kitchen scissors are struggling, can’t imagine how you’d do it for a bigger bird.
Also did you dry brine the skin or something? It looks so crispy
Probably because it’s shit, so most people never have a reason to get good at cooking it.
chicken (turkey) or egg argument
It’s shit so nobody learns or nobody learns so it’s shit
Turkey well-seasoned and cooked properly is quite good. I prefer prime rib but when I did turkey it was a hit.
When you have most households in the country trying to make it, but it’s actually kind of tricky to get right, most of them will screw it up and pass down their bad habits. Namely the tradition of baking a turkey whole, which as mentioned will almost always dry out the breast before the dark meat is done.
Frying is a bit better but frying a turkey whole can lead to a similar problem
Note: Turkey can be roasted whole but needs a workaround to help cook the dark meat faster through using a baking steel (like for pizza) to apply more heat underneath the turkey, and by switching out the roasting pan https://youtu.be/fU5JE7KdSrE?si=8x3daBsd0xBdsDJ6
Did a spatchcocked turkey with garlic herb butter https://imgur.com/a/304es20
Please ignore the messy carve I’ll do better next time 😢
I did similar this year and finished on the grill. Told everyone we having Pavo Asado.
People make turkey so complicated and I don’t get it. I just throw it in a baking pan with some vegetables, season it, and then cover it once the skin is brown. The breast is never dry.
I even go against the general advice and stuff my turkey (but I precook it and do it towards the end of the turkey’s cook time).
One of the funniest, most personable guys in the league, but he’s never had a properly cooked turkey 😔
Y’all be putting frozen turkeys in the oven, uncovered, unbuttered. Rushed turkeys.
Thanksgiving got nothing on crate day
Anyone saying turkey is dry just can’t cook, unfortunate
Exactly this! My mom always wondered what people were doing cooking a turkey all day, no wonder its fucking dry! And if you brine your turkey beforehand you almost cant go wrong.
How is turkey overrated when literally everyone says its dry and overrated
Turkey consumption has dropped steadily in America. So Adam’s is not wrong the wife and I don’t even eat turkey on Thanksgiving
Chicken is the superior bird
Less people can cook well and more people are comfortable getting brisket ham or ribs instead
He is him. Anything he said is right. And AG too..
He’s right. We didn’t even do turkey this year lol, just barbecued random shit on the beach. It was good. Fuck the pumpkin pies too, we had cheesecakes 🤌
He sounds like Arnold at the beginning
^get ^to ^da ^restrictedarea
Adams is so dope.
We had steak for Thanksgiving with just my wife and kids because why ruin a good day with turkey and extended family?
Mr. Adams, I find your ideas intriguing and I would like to subscribe to your newsletter.
Candied yams with marshmallows are S-tier. Followed by stuffing, then mashed potatoes with legit gravy, then a proper honey baked-type glazed ham and prime rib, then you have everything else.

I don’t give a shit about boxing day and I get that all Christmas time via the prem, this is a weird thing to whine about
fair enough
I agree that turkey is overrated. I’ve had good turkey, though most people only make it once or twice a year so they don’t get good at it and that’s why their turkey is dry.
In any case, that’s why my family does ham.
He’s 100% right Turkey is overrated
Never had candied yams tho, googled it and those look delicious
He says no lie.
Steven Adams is the coolest.
Always blows my mind: Steven Adams is LITERALLY 10 days older than me and he looks like he could be my father. Humans are interesting creatures
Thats my guy
God I miss my kiwi
He might be including us in “Americans” but Canadian do Thanksgiving too Steven.
It’s ok he doesn’t know that though, he’s never played here.
Yup agreed! Turkey is tasteless as fuck!
Turkey sucks
Smoked Turkey and Turkey legs are good, the rest is trash. Candied yams slap though.
I hate turkey for it’s dryness. Overrated af
Either cook your turkey properly or drown it in gravy like god intended.
That’s like saying steak is overrated because you’ve only had it cooked well done. The problem is you overcooking the turkey, not the turkey itself.
