Hartenstein extends his arms on almost every screen. Is that legal?
It’s driving me absolutely crazy that he gets to extend his arms and create huge space, but the moment somebody slightly leans, it’s illegal.
Is his screen setting legal?
It’s just not called anymore but technically no
If it’s not called, it’s legal
Except if someone like Zach Edey tries it. Then it is actually illegal.
This is the stupidest thing ever but he will also get away with it after his 4th year or smt. Refs lets players they know off the hook a lot.
The Trump rule.
No, it’s not legal.
Illegal screen, much like carrying, is called far less than it is committed. The complaints about the Warriors illegal screens were true, but honestly most teams probably could have done the same but for whatever reason most teams didn’t abuse how bad the refs are at calling it.
The refs absolutely called screens differently for prime Golden State. Andrew Bogut even said as much after he left.
They still set moving screens every game for curry, it hasn’t stopped
Didn’t the league make a video about their moving screens and how most of them are legal screens?
no they didn’t you crybabies😂
Your own player said they did. It’s okay, you can get past this.
I’m not saying they did or didn’t. I’m just saying Bogut is an idiot and shouldn’t be treated as a serious source
Green says the same thing when you lost curry in an injury and warriors was at the bottom (then you draft wiseman:)
It’s one of those things that the more your team does it, the less it will be called. Sort of in the category that you can’t call all of them.
For example, super aggressive defensive teams like OKC don’t get called for a lot of the contact that they initiate because they are setting the tone with refs. However, is a super passive defensive team like the Lakers suddenly decide to be aggressive, they’ll often get called for the same or even weaker contact than a team like OKC.
Obviously this is true 100% of the time, but the way your team plays from the jump often sets the tone with what refs will and will not call.
In college basketball, this is actually a lot of defensive minded coaches entire system. They will just play incredibly physically on defense and most opponents will collapse under the intensity while the refs don’t call all the fouls because that’s how that team always plays so it feels normal to the refs
As an Iowa State fan, this is such a double edged sword, because you will run into an officiating crew that will call everything out of nowhere and your entire game plan is screwed.
I agree though I feel like only so many teams get away with the aggressive D at once. Like 2024 the Wolves could do it, but I feel like they are more prone to get called for attempting it now, where as last year and this one OKC gets to be more physical than most teams.
In combo its so hard to defend too
I can’t stand OKC but this really isn’t a unique thing to Hartenstein. Lotta guys set screens like this now.
Now? I remember people always complaining about KG doing it. Just like carries on crossovers which have been a thing since Iverson and push-offs since forever
Yeah that’s very fair
people out here acting like karl malone who impregnated a child and intentionally kneed everyone in the chest and is the greatest pick and roll/pop player of all time was setting completely legal screens and bad things only started in the 2020s lol
Garland’s signature crossover has his left palm facing heaven. If it looks cool, why call it?
See ya Sunday baby 😘
By rule it’s not, but everyone does it so yes it’s legal
Same with how a whole lot of hesitations and cross overs are by rule carries. The rule vs the actual usage are very different
lane violations on free throws
I totally get that, but they’re so nitpicky on moving lateral on screens is what gets me.
Everyone hip checks, arm bars, and guards will straight up grab and pull people when they set screens. Theres basically no enforcement except when they randomly decide to
Saying “everyone does it” is disingenuous. It is not called the same in all teams, regardless of how egregious it is.
Did someone make a bot farm that just posts these OKC x Refs fanfics in every thread?
When you realize most people on here are either bots or 13 year olds that want to ragebait its a lot easier to deal with the sub.
3 second violations and Illegal screens are a common occurrence every night but rarely called.
Jaxson Hayes on the Lakers has never set a legal screen in his life, he leans in to the opposition with arms extended every screen. The Lakers commentators are always pointing out 3 second violations as well, I think it was the home game against Jazz last week Sabonis was in the paint for almost 5 seconds and there was no call.
Okc really are the new Warriors
Hell yeah
Enjoy it man
Just to clarify, I mean your similar in the sense that everyone hates on you guys for being dominant.
People accusing you of committing illegal screens in particular is a major similarity.
Accuse implies its not true.
Bogurt talked about the screens lol, it’s something they were fully aware they could get away with and wanted to see how far they could push
Bogurt is killing me lmao
WHO?!?
He’s white like Yogurt
Nah OKC is really worse
without the success
We literally just won a championship and are 18-1 with this being our 3rd straight 1 seed finish (likely)?
Warriors weren’t flopping and getting carried by refs that much.
Refs came in clutch making Minny turn the ball over and miss their FTs
if people cared about players being injured from the pace being too fast, easy way to slow it down is to actually enforce rules like travelling, carrying and illegal screens
but they won’t cause players like their inflated offensive stats
No, but literally every big, including Rudy, does this
Rudy does it like 20% of the time and NEVER as egregious. His problem is elbows and feet. It looks like Isaiah is on impractical jokers begging for a call every 60 seconds.
No, but I miss him doing that every possession for the Knicks. Used to open up so many lanes for Brunson
Yes it is in the NBA. Pau Gasol and Kevin Garnett didn’t set a “legal” screen in the last ten years of their career. Stuff like that is just incorporated into strategy smart players do it
Ohhhhhh BROTHER
The way they officiated the moving screen us the most insane thing.
Then they’ll call some BS one late in games that always flips momentum or gives a key player foul trouble
It’s in the NBA rules under…ehh wait who did it?
Call carries, lane violations, actual 5 seconds on inbounds, push offs….shall I keep going?
There are dozens of illegal screens in every single NBA game. They just let them do it. (Just like traveling and carrying)
Bro are you watching the NBA? Every god damn player in the league is setting illegal screens almost every play. I’ve just stopped caring it’s insane. Idk why they don’t call it. It’s absolutely ludicrous.
NBA doesn’t enforce its own rule book. The answer to if it’s legal is basically whether or not the refs blew the whistle.
Refs like OKC
I wonder who he learned that from?
How old are you? Because this has been an understandable gripe since about 2015 via Andrew Bogut on the GSW.
Nope. Calling illegal screens and stopping bailout calls would do wonders for the aesthetics of the game though.
happens in every NBA game since 1997
Yep.
I used to think complaints about stuff like this were inexplicable.
But then I realized most fans never watch any team but their favorite, and if their favorite team/player was doing exactly this, they’d see no issue. Until it was done unto them by an opponent.
Y’all just need to watch more basketball.
They don’t call a lot of things for OKC…
I suffered from Bogut Donkey screens. Idgaf.
Every screener has been doing this for decades. People only calling out OKC cause people are just now watching OKC lol
LMFAOOOOO
Unless it’s blatant, the only way illegal screens get called these days is if the defender sells it
I mean, some screeners straight up shove defenders these days.
Europeans are allowed unlimited illegal screens. Jokic…Sengun….etc.
Mm getting
find a new slant
The fact that it’s called on some players but not all is why I struggle to watch the league. And sports in general. Draymond has been moving on screens for years. Jordan picked up his pivot foot all the time while posting up. LeBron slaps defenders arms so hard they can’t help but let him past their hips. Duncan was a master as smacking hands and getting “all ball.” On and on and on some players&teams get a different whistle. It has nothing to do with Gambling
Def illegal but I feel like now he’s just known for doing that every game lol
OKC are blessed by the basketball gods in every way. It’ll pass.
Refs are super selective on when they call the shit
It is, o ly illegal if he’s in a warriors jersey. Don’t be an idiot thinking any other team than the warriors set illegal screens
Have you seen how sga plays?
He’s playing the “they can’t call it every time” game, which I hate.
I actually hope the refs call it every time. Foul out in the first 6 possessions. Fuck whatever this is that the Thunder call “defense”.
I said this out loud to myself in the 1st quarter. Legit should have fouled out less than half way through the 1st quarter. Of course if the refs called it tho he’d stop.
OKC gets away with a ton of physicality as a team. It’s a big reason where the defensive rating is that much better than everyone else’s.
Why doesn’t everyone else do it then
Because they’d pick up a lot of fouls
Doubt it but sure
Bc they have to stop after getting calls. OKC can do unlimited times when it’s never called.
Ooooookkkkkkaaaayyyyy
That makes no sense
it actually pisses me the fuck off watching oklahoma play, when this team inevitably fails and fucks off the face of basketball forever i am going to be so happy, the flopping, physical basketball that does not get called both sides, the screens, lu fucking dort, everything about them makes me mad!
Idk what timeline you from but they won a championship and have the exact same team again this year idk where the inevitably comes from here
Thank you. Could not agree more
Refs are sucking up to OKC
It’s legal when the league wants a team to win games
This is the only answer that matters in this entire thread regardless of what anyone else typed before or adds after. It’s either a rule or it isn’t.
