So Dallas just needs to find a team that is willing to tie up its salary cap (to the tune of $300M+) and stake the next 5+ years on the belief that a 32-37 year old AD will stay healthy and in All Star form. Best of luck lol.

Very good chance AD will get that extension. AD was a top 10 player in the league prior to getting injured last year and yeah he’s declined but I don’t think its farfetched to say he can return to form and be a top 20 player in this league.

Even players outside top 30, 40, 50 are getting 30 or 40m a year contracts. I find it funny people will see guys like Michael Porter Jr, OG Anunoby, Aaron Gordon, Mikal Bridges sign for 30-45m a year and consensus is that these are completely fair market value contracts, but you guys see some “journalist” speculate he’s expected to get the max “in some corners” and you guys make fun of him.

Yes he’s injury prone but when healthy he’s 2 tiers better than these guys. Yes he’s up there in age but see the contracts Harden and Paul George got. Paying an old superstar 60m is not that bad if the alternative is MAYBE getting a roleplayer for 40m.

What’s going to hurt is the return Dallas gets for AD. A team is not going to want to give 5 first round picks AND give a max contract extension to AD. Somebody probably will give him the max contract extension but the haul Dallas gets will be weak.
