Scheierman is a very good defender, he just needs more experience. For reference he has less career minutes than Cooper Flagg.

Simons and Pritchard is a very small backcourt. Garza is both undersized and not athletic, really tough to match him up with Claxton.

In his limited minutes he’s looked good defensively? Not that complicated. He’s not elite at anything offensively, so they must like his defense if they’re continuing to roster him and give him opportunities.

It’s not surprising that a rookie would struggle to get minutes on a 60 win team. I do think he will get more minutes this year as it goes along.

You’re right he shot 27% from 3 at byu but apparently shot very well at the combine and workouts with the nets. His shooting form looks good and the nets believe that he’ll be a good shooter so they picked him at 8.

He’s a great shooter already, which is surprising since that was supposed to be his most glaring weakness. Career will depend a lot on whether his handle improves enough to become a full-time PG, he hasn’t been able to showcase his supposedly elite court vision as much yet because it forces him off the ball.

MPJ and Clax balling out, boosting up potential trade value (MPJ legit playing like an all-star, may very well be better to keep him going forward).

Last year was depressing because we were winning meaningless games with nothing to really take out of them because they were largely on the backs of journeymen and not young pieces for the future or a legitimate all-star caliber player in MPJ. This year its different. Hell, this might be sacrilegious in Nets Nation but if we win in the high 20s-low 30’s but its largely on the backs of games like this I can live with it because it likely means the young guys we already have are pretty good and can be even better. I’m still pro-tank but also not losing sleep over wins like tonight.

I got to ask you, as a Celtics fan:

The team is doing okay. Obviously not good, but also not enough of a disaster to fall in the draft and get a difference maker.
Tatum and Brown are now being paid big money and it will be increasingly hard to surround them with high quality players while staying out of the 2nd apron. A cheap high-end draftee could do wonders for future competitiveness
If Tatum comes back late your best case scenario is still a hard fight with 8 other teams (Cavs, Knicks, Raps, Magic, Bucks, 76ers Heat, Bulls, and Hawks) for one of the 5 spots that doesn’t involve a play-in. You’re already starting to fall behind too.

With all that in mind. Do you:

A) Trade White for futures and go full tank Or

B) Keep White and hope you make the playoffs or hop you get a good draftee anyway

For most fans, it’s not about winning this year.

It’s about putting the team in a stronger position for next year.

There are 2 main schools of thought:

Tank for a pick that could help us next year - Either draft someone great or use that pick in a trade.
Spend this year on player development - Focus on getting the guys up to standard and figuring out which players need to be kept/replaced in the offseason.

So far the fans are divided (especially after a loss) but the Celtics are clearly going with option #2, and the team looks to be doing well on that front.

Queta has been unreal. Our on/off splits with him would probably surprise you. It’s early in the season and we already know we’ve got a guy we can count on.

Walsh, Minott and Gonzalez have all looked really good at different times. We know they can play at a high level, but they’re all young/inexperienced, the challenge is getting them to play at a consistently high level.

Garza looks like a really good 3rd string big, but he doesn’t have the consistent impact of a 2nd string guy, so he sometimes gets exposed.

It’s not about winning the 2026 championship. It’s about coming into the 2026-27 season with a disciplined team where everyone knows their roles and is ready to compete.

A lot of championship teams are: 6th-8th seeded team + top 5ish player

If we can get to that point where we’re making the playoffs without Tatum, and then he comes back in good form, then we’re in a good place going forward.
