[Highlight] An Insane ending as Brandon Williams get called for the OFFENSIVE FOUL as he makes the shot to tie the game and the game is over (With Replays)
Thanks for posting one with replays
Looks like a good call
Good call, but that’s not the issue. The issue is they do not call this consistently at all 99% of the other times this exact offensive call occurs throughout the league
Exactly this - almost every play now involves a push off, use of the off arm, a moving screen etc etc they just aren’t called most of the time.
They call this play consistently on Kat I can tell you that, most players do get away with it.
KAT gets called for offensive fouls a ridiculous amount of times. Sometimes multiple per game while defenders are literally laying on him or grabbing him.
Calls are inconsistent throughout the league. They try to focus on that weak ass “bump” by Shamet. Dawg did a blatant hook that was called correctly. Honestly, I was shocked that it got called as Lnicks were getting called for petty fouls most of the game.
The craziest part is people saying shamet “trucked him”, if that trucked people really just want someone taping someone on a shoulder to be a flagrant foul.
Case 1: Mr Free Throw Alexander, his pisses me off because its so obvious that you can’t even use the argument of “its a fast paced game”
True, but most of what you see isn’t very obvious especially with the speed the games are played these days. They don’t really call it because of replays and slow mos unless there is a challenge. That shit right there was clear as day - even at full speed - and right in front of the refs. The NBA may be rigged, but not this call.
Its extremely obvious when people push off like that lol
Donovan Mitchell’s signature move is basically a swim move where he uses his off hand to push the defender in the direction of their momentum lmao
Yeah way more obvious and clear push offs arent called. Shai for example is pushing off very often and gets 0 calls for push offs ( in the games i watched him and it was plenty )
I wonder did they ever call him on that
lol KAT gets this shit called on him all the time.
Sorry to hear that’s still happening now that he’s on the Knicks.
They call this pretty consistently against KAT. KAT got called for hooking during this game on two separate occasions I think.
KAT gets called for this more than most players but even then it’s not consistent because he still gets away with it a lot. Giannis and Segun too. The NBA needs to make up their mind and call it every time or not at all.
No, the defender fouled the offensive player before the hook. It’s a blown call
That’s not true. I watch all of KATs games and he gets called for this twice a day.
Absolutely disgusted to see this call. No call on the initial bump from Shamet, then don’t call this. If Williams would have flopped, I’m sure they say play-on. God damn. Let this go to OT and let the players decide.
Lmao, no, I disagree
In a vacuum maybe, sure — offensive player hooks the defender with his arm — but that’s after the defender bumps the driving offensive player enough that it would typically be called in most NBA regulation minutes.
It should have been a defensive foul or, even better, a no-call. Refs often swallow their whistle in the final seconds of games, and this play is case-and-point why
Yeah anyone saying this is a good call is crazy…there was a clear foul before the wrap around.
Yeah, no, I’m with you. That’s either a defensive foul or let them cancel each other out. They made the wrong call and screwed Dallas.
Yeah if anything it looks less like a pushoff or stiff arm and more like a way to keep balance on the sharp turn.
Or balance because the defender trucked into him from the side and partly from behind.
… and this defender moving into the path to the basket was literally one of the pre season rule changes/officiating focuses right?
Shamet was literally the example defender they used to demonstrate it too, lol
I disagree. The defender trucked into him.
Yea if shoulder checking someone is legal it’s a great call
Did you watch the clip? They literally say and showed the defender bumping him prior to the wrap around.
It’s a blocking foul before the hook
from a basketball gods perspective the Knicks got bailed out they missed so many free throws down the stretch
Awful call. There’s contact for the blocking foul before the wrap.
Anything else should be downvoted to the negatives
Shamet bumps Williams prior to the hook. Should’ve been a defensive foul and FTs for Dallas.
Unbelievable blown call there. And let’s be honest, that hook is done by players like SGA on numerous drives per game without a whistle anyway.
Maybe but it’s actually understandable how the refs called it wrong considering how noticeable the hook was
Yeah I don’t think you can call this an egregious miss when they actually did call the hook correctly.
Absolutely agree. Hook was too much to not be called as well regardless. At best they get something around 1s, enough for a volleyball tap, but that’s it
End of game feels like it should just be a no call both ways on a play like this. You really rarely see fouls with this type of contact typically in the final seconds.
The hook was more egregious than the bump. Much more noticeable.
Refs aren’t going to call a bump a foul, especially in the last seconds.
Yeah that kind of contact would have to be called like 50 times per game.
Ever watch an OKC game?
Wolves fans can’t get over that beat down still huh
Wolves and nuggets fans. Saltiest of bitches
Then they also shouldnt call that hook.
They were calling that hook during the game. KAT had 2 offensive fouls for hooking
Why does this remind me of Randy and cheeseburgers (Trailer Park Boys)
Maybe the ref should not have called the hook, but I completely understand why they did. It was fairly blatant.
Yeah i agree tbh. It’s a “clearer foul” than the bump.
Anyways all for the tank win win for both 😂
I don’t think you can realistically compare the hook all the way around Shamet’s body to a slight bump of hips as both guys are still moving towards the basket.
Realistically that call isn’t made in the final seconds of a game. Think Jordan pushing off in the finals
Maybe. But Mike put his hand on the defenders hip, which looks more natural than Williams reaching behind him and behind Shamet and putting his hand in the middle of Shamet’s numbers. From the angle of the ref who called it, all you see is his arm around Shamet and Shamet moving out of bounds.
‘if you don’t call a borderline foul you can’t call an obvious one”. Please square that circle for me.
(I honestly don’t have a strong opinion on this foul, I’m just curious about the logic)
It was an emotional comment before i analyzed the replay more. 😅
Lmao that’s literally how the last Spurs vs Warriors game ended. Steph stopped and jumped into the defender.
bruh they did the other week san antonio vs golden state
Curry got that call a few days ago in the spurs game
but they’ll call post-bump hooks that other players get away with all the time?
Well they called that shit a foul
Then why call that
SGA knows the playbook, go “Wade-lean pull-up middy” to buy the foul + get a circus shot up once the bump comes.
Shamet and Williams made contact, but it’s pretty much the textbook definition of “incidental contact,” which is not a foul.
Williams wrapping his arm around Shamet is a clear and unambiguous foul.
Idk, Laundry runs directly into Brandon who has a clear path to the basket. It doesn’t look incidental, you can see his hips get turned out as a result of the contact. It doesn’t look like a lot but something like that gets called pretty frequently in any drive to the basket
Hard to argue that Williams had “a clear path to the basket.” Watch the replay and when they make contact, Shamet’s feet are between Williams’s feet and the basket and Shamet’s hips are between William’s hips and the baskets. That’s the very opposite of a clear path to the basket.
But, even if you still disagree, here’s a link to the NBA Video Rulebook which discusses this exact scenario.
In the example video, there is far more contact than what we saw tonight and according to the rules, it’s still not considered a foul.
https://videorulebook.nba.com/archive/legal-contact-below-ft-line-extended-on-drive-2/
Bro pulled out the NBA video rulebook for the dagger.
This seals it. The bump in the rulebook video was more more pronounced than the post.
Yea Williams shouldn’t go for the lay. Just stop, get bumped and go for a shot. 2 fts. Luka, curry, shai, brunson do this all the time. curry got the FTs at the last sec against the spurs on the same play.
Nah Shamets contact was not enough to be a foul there
“Players like SGA” fair. Can’t think of any Lakers that instigate contact and get calls, kudos
KAT gets called for that hook all the time, including in this game
Yeah and people want it called on SGA, it’s a clear offensive foul lmao
Lakers fan whining about SGA when Luka leading the league in FTs. lol. SGA a whole 3 fouls behind. Living rent free in y’all’s heads.
If there is no call on that play (no hook etc) then that light bump by shamet is probably a play on. The only reason we are dissecting it is bc we are looking at the play over and over again. Williams hooked him. There’s zero question about that and it’s more blatant than the “bump”. If Williams starts shooting while shamet makes that contact then yeah, maybe there’s a case
This is a crazy take lol
how would it be free throws if the “bump” came before the gather?
Knicks were in the penalty.
I didn’t know if Shai ever touches the guys back
That bump is in no way a foul, easy no-call. The hook was clearly a hook and offensive foul.
KAT gets that called an offensive foul every other night btw
I would argue minor bumps shouldn’t be called. They keep finding ways to take out every bit of contact in the game.
Even football which is the opposite when it comes to contact has rules where the contact can’t be allowed.
The NBA haa to start outlining what contact is allowed better if they plan to clean up the game.
I personally think nothing should’ve been called here.
Yep, he had turned the corner on Shamet and Shamet continued to walk right through Williams. He brushed BACK with the left arm AFTER Shamet fouled him.
It was obvious even before the replay based on Williams outrunning and being in front of him, then being bumped out of bounds and ending up on the ground as he made his layup.
It’s not an outrageously terrible call, just a wrong one. Happens. Refs aren’t perfect.
SGA? Nah there’s a whistle, but it’s against the defender.
Lmao SGA catching strays that is not in his normal bag goddamn
Let’s gooooo get that lottery pick. Ethical tank continues
Lean, biodegradable, grass-fed USDA approved tanking
Organic tanking
I just enjoy a tank more when I know it’s ethically sourced.
Hey that’s how we got Cade. Sometimes it works
Farm to Tank: the Kursk Mavericks
Refs clutch to make that call at that moment.
Tank rolls on 🫡
Refs gotta be in on the tank, ain’t no way you don’t call foul on shamet.
Might as well get that pick at this point
Finally a damn replay instead of a screen rip from an illegal stream. That “bump” doesn’t move Williams at all and is marginal at most and then Williams clearly hooks Shamet.
[deleted]
You have to sell it. Brunson sells it sometimes by snapping his head back. Williams didn’t sell it. Ironically if he tries he might have gotten th bump as a call. Either way it wasn’t enough
What’s dumb is the hook didn’t even buy him anything. Shamet knew he bumped him (probably strictly a foul but not getting called in this situation), and was already backing off a bit, and then comes the totally unnecessary and obvious hook.
the “hook” doesn’t move sham either. sham moves after their legs touch, which should be another foul from sham.
We shot 54% on free throws wtf lol
Almost a horrible call and had me about to rant about ref-ball until you see that last replay showing Williams “hooking” the defender with his off ball hand. 100% an offensive call and the correct call.
That’s a foul. Rule book doesn’t change in the last few seconds. Was a very obvious hook. The little bump by Shamet looks to be a possible foul at first but when you watch it back, it doesn’t affect Williams’ path, it’s marginal contact.
In real time all you see is the hook
Not only that but that contact is so incidental and common that it’s practically never called at the end of games. The hook was unnecessary and obvious. Is it always called? No, but it is more of a foul imo
The issues is the never call this shit, we all know, sga, Brunson, luka all getting away with that.
KAT gets called for hooking every single game. He was called for two in this very game
The rule book also doesn’t change for the previous 47:56 yet this sort of thing is never called during that time
tl;dr If it comes down to a final play to tie the game, then its simply a tight game where anything can happen. So it goes
Also clearly a hook.
Then again what is Shamet doing there? He is not making a play on the ball, he is never ahead of Williams but just as clearly as Williams hooked him, Shamet makes contact while being behind.
So the hook could just as much be interpreted as him trying to get back to his lane. At any rate even with the hook, he first has to make the basket for it to even matter, which he does. Kudos.
What I do wonder is if Williams would have just let himself hit the ground rather than hook to be able to get the shoot up, would they have then called a defensive foul? And if so what do we want as basketball fans? Players that get a minor bump that pushes them ever so slightly off their lane to still try to make a basket or fall down to sell the defensive foul?
I think if Brandon flops there he gets the call. I see players do that all the time on drives where they are slightly cut off. Brandon sadly played the game instead of playing the refs there and it cost the game
Yea cause he fouled instead of not fouling
Yeah, Williams better go watch some SGA tape and fall to the ground on the Shamet bump like a real star player.
The foul on Brunson before that on PJ was so atrocious. Knicks sure did try everything to lose that game though.
Despite all that whining it is an offensive foul
You can tell by their reaction they knew it was the right call
I understand people saying a blocking foul should have been called but the refs let a lot of things go this game so I’m not surprised it ended in some bullshit and they let that go
He clearly got bumped by Shamet first
A bump is not a foul. Players bump each other all the time, both offensive and defensive.
Correct. KAT got called for this twice in the game.
Correct call though. Lmao this clip doesn’t even have the right angle on the replay to show the hook.
the hook is clear in 1:35
So much whining here.
A bump isn’t going to get called as a foul unless the offensive player is actively shooting, or if the dribbler is knocked off-balance.
Williams hooked Shamet. It is a foul.
It’s honestly pathetic that ppl are trying to make this an argument even
To everyone saying the refs “ruined it”: at what point do the rules stop actually applying? That’s an offensive foul, it should be called as such the entire game. The bump by Shamet was something both teams had gotten away with all game, the hook was not.
“At what point do rules stop actually applying?” followed by “that rule shouldn’t apply in this situation”.
Usually in the last few seconds of games tbh. But yeah, it was definitely an offensive foul.
Watch the first replay and close up replay and watch the ref that made the call. He doesn’t blow the whistle until the ball is about to go in. The wrap around happens, and then he’s looking closely at the shot and then as it’s about to go in he blows the whistles. It’s crystal clear- that’s pretty awful.
The application of the rules varies on whether it benefits you or not.
Honestly, great call. Fucking brutal, though.
People here advocating for a defensive foul on that bump are wrong. That bump is not a foul and happens every defensive play when somebody goes inside.
Wow, and I thought losing at the buzzer to Vuc draining an open three was the worst outcome for any team tonight.
Second time this year he’s done that, Vucci Man might win clutch player of the year at this rate
Initially it looked like a terrible call, but he just about cuddled him with how far that left arm was hooking.
The angle is soooo clear to the ref’s view as well. You can’t blame him for having such an easy choice, and not hiding it at all is on the player
What happened to the unwritten rule that refs swallow their whistle on the final play
It’s hard to justify swallowing the whistle on a guy full on wrapping around another guy’s body and knocking him out of bounds. That’s more contact than the potential bump by Shamet where they seemingly were going to swallow the whistle both ways.
That’s a brutal call to end the game. They’re not calling that on a star.
KAT, an all-star and all-NBA guy, got called for that twice tonight.
he gets called for that twice a game
If anything they probably were more inclined to call it since KAT was called for it before.
I wanted to be upset about this call but then I saw the replay
This video is why we as a community will NEVER be satisfied with the officiating. We have the benefit of completely slowed down replay and we still can’t agree if Shamet fouled him or not.
Everyone agrees shamet is fouled.
But this sub wants to whine about officials so whataboutisms
HAHA That’s J.T. Orr!! Why am I not surprised.
yeah they’re not calling that on SGA or Luka. lmfao nba is such a joke.
that bump could maybe be questionable but you could easily let it go
that hook was just too blatant imo
he held it too long and shamet did just enough to sell it as well imo
i think shamet was just fast enough where he didn’t have a clear path to the basket, i also think that’s the reason he hooked him because he knew he couldn’t get around him otherwise
he’d of had to of shot it while he was being bumped to have a chance, but hooking the guy to pull around him just made it stand out too much
Vegas call
Textbook hook. That offensive players get away with countless times across an NBA season. Swallow the whistle ref.
“Textbook hook”
“Dont call that”
? Make up your mind
Kat got called for two lol
By the book it’s a foul, in that moment maybe they should have swallowed their whistle. It is what it is
So we just don’t call fouls on the last play? I don’t get this argument. Never have.
Good call
Correct result
Refs said they’re not working OT tonight and called it GAME
That’s the right call right? On that replay he clearly hooks him with his arm to free up space
Why am I unable to click the video and it says it’s a gif? Does anyone know how to solve this
imma keep my mouth shut…
Williams looks like he has a step and get by and drives past Shamet, arm comes after. Tie game. That call was made knowing full well the challenge was gone.
Very controversial L2M report about to drop tomorrow
I thought knicks will lose the game man
Coach Carlton banks pointing his finger yes lol
Ethical tank
Beware the hooks me boyo. BEWARE THE HOOKS 🪝
am i reading that correctly or is it not updated in real time?.. the mavericks are 4-12? (yes i know theyre injury riddled its not fair)
Should’ve been a defensive foul before
If that was Luka, he would’ve gone to the free throw line
All the shit they let go for the defense in these last second situations and they have the nerve to call that??
Lmao
refs wanted to go home for the night.
Good, the Mavs/Adelsons deserve pure misery. Keep it coming.
The players and fans deserve pure misery? What did they do?
it’s such an obvious hook, refs gonna cook you everytime, especially in a close game
100% offensive foul. You cannot use your hand to sort of guide the defender’s body towards a direction you want lol. Clean call.
I think this makes it clear that refs don’t get paid more for games that go to overtime
In most games, the ref would let the players go for pretty much everything. Not a good call
What a lay, for the record.
I thought it was a 2+1 during the moment
offensive foul…but if u call that call the bump before too
Unwatchable garbage product
B will is gonna be a great bench option for a team since the mavs don’t have his bird rights.
Just another controversial ending with Scott Foster. He didnt make the call but as soon as you see his face it changes the perspective of the incident everytime.
Scott Foster Masterclass !!
Refs shouldnt be deciding games in the last 3 seconds. Both defense and offense fouled that play.
Should have just taken 4 steps instead
4 seconds of a game takes 2 minutes to end it all 💔
nba refs are the worst shit in sports.
Nah, u can’t overcome the Nico curse that easily.
Sorry, Mavs fans.
RIGGED. THIS IS SO RIGGED BRO.
Its been rigged 🤣 thats why i stopped watching that shitty ass league
Mane this game was so good just for them to do that to the Mavs at home. I was trippin. Then the way the ref was smiling the whole time was crazy smh
Really hate how the arena announcer feels the need to hype the fans up as live play is happening.
I wish they called this more on Luka …
Tough times
That was the correct call but nobody makes that call at that time. If anyone needed more proof that gambling has more than permeated the NBA, look no further
Godamnit, i fell asleep half way thru the 4th
Gambling is great for sports.
Someone Gets Away with that all the time
thats a blocking foul first before the hook
