[Highlights] All of Alperen Şengün’s buckets on Evan Mobley tonight
is mobley going to make super max because of the DPOY?
Yes. I’m pretty sure he gets the rookie super max if he hits all-nba or DPOY
He would have gotten it anyway since he was 2nd team all-NBA last year
I’m still happy with him. Reactionary shit is how you end up trading your star players for someone much older.
The one where Sengun was completely under and behind the basket and basically plastic manned in to get the bucket was nasty.
Craig Akerman - “We have Gumby out on the court!”
It doesn’t matter who is guarding him, Şengün plays at his own pace
Yeah this is not a bad look for Mobley, Sengun had plays where he went at Wemby/Chet/JJJ/Giannis and cooked too. Great offense > great defense. When he is not doing well its usually because he is shooting like shit and missing the shots he usually makes, more so than what the defense does
Like Luka, Sengun has the size and plays defense and Luka has way better handles and range.
Having watched this and him do similar things against Giannis about a week ago, I really don’t think it’s blasphemous to be comparing Sengun to Jokic. The dude just has that similar combination of strength, intelligence, and touch, where you can’t really stop him from just throwing up those floaters that you’re okay to live with against 99% of players, but against them, you shouldn’t.
You don’t have to compare him to Jokic. He is his own specimen. A dash of Pau Gasol, a dash of Jokic, better defense in a lot ways
Fair enough. He does indeed have distinct differences in his playstyle. I fell into the trap of just instinctively comparing big white dudes from overseas, my bad.
Someone compared him to a bigger, obviously better, Kyle Anderson and i can’t unsee it
This gotta be one of the dumbest things I’ve seen this mfer plays nothing like slomo
He plays like both Gasol Brothers with more athleticism.
Jokic is averaging a 30 point triple double on like 75 TS%.
I love Sengun and he’s made a gigantic leap this year, but Jokic is doing some legitimate top 5-10 player of all-time shit right now. He’s just on a completely different level
For real. I always thought it was kind of insulting to call AlP ‘Baby Jokic’ but at the same time, like you said, Jokic might be Top 5 all time when it’s all said and done. If he gets another MVP and another ring I think it’s for sure. So being ‘Baby Jokic’ really ain’t all that bad lol
He makes a great Jokic impression for sure, in days like this where his shot is hitting, he is really close to an average Jokic day, like the OKC game in the opening day where he looked like Jokic/Dirk with better defense. But I guess overall, consistency and average play wise, Sengun has decent efficiency and great, elite level playmaking while Jokic has game breaking never seen before efficiency and GOAT level playmaking. He’s 23, so who knows, maybe the Goon manages to have more of these games and get closer to Jokic
Touch isn’t there yet, nor is the court vision / passing.
similar combination of strenght, intelligence and touch much worse in every one of those lmao
Mac and cheese, cornbread, greens, turkey, biscuits. Mobley was FOOD
Baby Skyhook
Off topic the Cavs should keep this court and these jerseys permanently
Steal Miami Heat colors. Heat can stick with the Miami Vice colors.
Mobley just struggles with strength inside. Scottie also gave him problems when they played
Mobley is one of those defenders that’s built mainly for the modern “switchability” era but can have issues with old school 1v1 type matchups against good frontcourt scorers
Too strong for Mobley
Obviously Mobley’s getting cooked, but can the scheme not help him out more. Why are we not collapsing on Sengun the way we would on Jokic.
Letting him play 1v1 is a choice
Because KD is also there, Sengun is a great passer and Houston are shooting 42% from three.
When you consider these things, you kinda have to take letting your dpoy guard the opposing player
Denver have shooters, Jokic is an even better passer and it’s still a mistake not to send help
Not sending help is the same mistake as sending help. They’ll make you pay either way. Sometimes you have to gamble between the one or the other. And gambling that your DPOY can guard someone is a better gamble than letting the team shooting 42% from 3 shoot open threes.
There’s a reason these guys get paid the big bucks
Coaches make mistakes all the time. The playoffs is a game of adjustments because each time you play you learn more about what works and what doesn’t work.
I’d be very surprised if when these two teams play again next month Sengun is guarded the same way
I wasn’t talking about the coaches when saying “that’s why they get paid the big bucks”, i’m talking about the likes of Jokic and Sengun.
They put you in a position where you feel like it’s lose-lose whatever you do. Assuming that there’s a right decision is wrong. You either gamble the 1v1 or you gamble the open shooter. Next game teams double Sengun and someone will be asking “why are they leaving X player open do they not know Rockets are shooting 42% from 3” and it will be the same argument the other way round.
Ah got you.
Yeah fair enough. Will be interesting to see the team that can slow him down
Sengun is a good passer and this year the rockets have a lot of good shooters who will just score on you if you double Sengun.
And give up a free dunk to Amen or an open look to Jabari or KD? You CANNOT help against this offense.
Will be fun to see OKC-Rockets when we play each other next. I’m positive we’ll be helping 😂
Yeah, but you guys have the length to disrupt passing lanes from the next state over.
It’s rich when OKC fans are like “why doesn’t your team just defend better?” when their team has like 8 slendermen so they can be way more versatile in their defensive schemes.
You guys’ defense is insane though. Can’t expect all other teams to be able to do the same.
This is one reason https://old.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/1p1phhi/highlight_sengun_draws_four_cavs_defenders_to_the/
Sengun moves like Patrick Star
I cant wathc sengun without laughing lmao. he’s a dawg but man he moves like an ostrich or llama
bro how the hell we(warriors) are going to fight against these rockets bruh
Shaq, in probably butchered turkish: Tavuk Şiş, Erneh. Tavuk Şiş!
Mobley is dog water
and we don’t gotta accept the legitimacy like we had to with rudy cause rudy a dog on defense
