It’s a transplant town. And tickets are also crazy expensive - so the arena is filled with people who work at consulting/law/lobbying/PR/etc. firms who can afford it (most of which are transplants).

The “transplant town” thing is a constant cope for bad teams in certain cities. Then if the team ever becomes good the transplant town thing stops being as much of a concern. The Wizards were slightly above-average in the mid to late 2000s and they had fans then. It doesn’t take much more than making the playoffs consistently.

Idk how much people expect out of Rookies taken with Picks 19, 22, 26, and 27 right off the rip.

Those are usually Role Players and Rookies don’t usually perform at a high level right away.

Egor as a Lottery Pick I would get but majority of the Nets picks weren’t in the Lottery and it’s ok if they don’t light the world on fire as Rookies.

Everyone develops at different times and I’ll always go back to VanVleet and Siakam in Toronto.

Both were Drafted at 22yrs old and spent 2-3yrs in the G-League before finally “popping” at age 25 when Kawhi joined and Toronto won a Chip.

So to act like 19yr olds should be amazing 13 games into their Rookie Season is absurd. Hell a number of Lottery Picks haven’t shown anything yet.

VanVleet actually went undrafted. But his career arc is pretty unusual.

And Siakam at age 23 was already a rotation player getting 21mpg on a #1 seed.

The median career outcome for guys drafted in that range is something like a productive bench player / borderline starter. If two of those guys end up as long-time starters that would be a success.
