Doug Christie after 133-100 loss to Atlanta Hawks: “I was embarrassed. I wish I could’ve put on the jersey. At 55 I coulda showed you better than that. At least imma use all 6 fouls, and I can’t move, but imma foul the sh#t outta somebody”
At least he’s fired up about it
I am fired up about Cam boozer, AJ dybanta or Peterson wearing purple next year personally
I think we all know you are drafting Marvin bagley 15.0
How’s Wisemen doing?
I lost count with the latest patches but that was either Marvin Bagley 13.0 or 14.0. Kings are due
You should have brought Hali dude it was right there 🤦🏿♂️
In hindsight but Hali was picked 12 and projected later top 10 while wiseman was a projected top 3 pick (for dubious reasons imo but still) that more teams believed in. They definitely made a mistake but Wiseman was always going to be an embarrassing pick for some team with a top 5 pick even if it wasn’t the Warriors. It’s not nearly as bad as someone like Anthony Bennet who no one projected top 3 and only like one mock draft mocked him top 10.
Warriors tried to trade down and NO ONE was interested. Tells you all you need to know about that draft. Hell, apparently even Ant had a lackluster workout with the Warriors.
After Edwards was taken, front office wanted LaMelo Kerr wanted Hali and Lacob wanted his 7-foot star. Or at least, that’s the rumor that’s been parroted by insiders…maybe I’m mixing up Kerr and the front office’s choices.
That draft was so shit bc of COVID. They were scouting Wiseman over Zoom 😂 since he got suspended after like 3 collegiate games. Stupid pick imo, but hoping Joe stays out of the draft room from then on.
That’s NBA Champion James Wisemen to you.
He looked pretty good with the ring on his finger
Pacers gold and blue is calling
One of these guys will also be in Jazz purple
If they’re picking number 1, I hope they don’t overthink it and just draft Dybantsa. Dude is a monster imo.
I hope for Dybantsa’s sake they skip on him
Probably gonna be a Spur
Go hard on them dudes
Crazy they were lighting the beam every other night just two season ago
If that wasn’t an indication of just how quick things change in the NBA, nothing is. The roster looks completely different, the coach is gone, minimal injury luck that season and NBA as a whole catching up.
The sad part is, the GM made no effort into improving the roster.
After the Warriors series, it showed the Kings needed forward depth. What did Monte do? Trade our 22nd pick (?) and Richaun Holmes to the Mavs as a salary dump. (The Mavs used said pick to trade for Gafford.) Pick up free agent Javale, and let go off most of our bench depth.
Following season, team improved on defence, but 3pt fell off a cliff, choked a handful of games. Got absolutely ass blasted by an injured, hobbled Pelicans team 6 fucking times. What did Monte do? Draft an undersized guard who was fucking injured. Spent a few SRPs to salary dump players, and bring in DeRozan.
Following season, get ass blasted by teams with length and size yet again and fire Mike Brown after a rough stretch. Don’t hold a conference about it and let the media blame Fox for 3 weeks. Fox asks to be traded.
I think Monte is on the Clippers front office, luckily they got no assets for him to fumble.
How much of it is the GM and how much of it is Vivek because I always thought the DeRozan move was a Vivek move.
Basically everyone attributes a move that turns out poorly to Vivek and everything good that happens to whatever the current GM is, the reality is we don’t know and our constantly fed misinformation and lies from our local media who try to pretend to be plugged in when they really arent.
If you can’t trust Carmichael Dave, who can you trust?
DeRozan was seen as a good signing by most people, even on this sub.
The Kings could do no wrong that year and that offseason because the Kings were a feel good story, the lovable losers of the NBA
I’d say Vivek didn’t get involved until our losing skid, his job was hilariously improving the beam. Could’ve just rode out last season and let a new GM deal Fox.
Fucking hell man.
You guys peaked too early is the problem. Hawks had the same issue.
Team was not actually good enough but some luck helped you guys to the 3rd seed. Next season goal should have been to just make the playoffs
They definitely overachieved that season, but found ways to improve the following season despite the lack of roster improvements.
GM sat on his hands the entire time.
Saying the hawks overachieved making the ECF is such bullshit.
A lot of it comes down to bad injury luck the following year, followed by the terrible Murray trade.
lots of ass blasting in your interpretation.
i think this the mark of a truly great storyteller
Derozan is the most inexusable move there - even spent a future first to acquire him. Guys like Derrick Jones, Naji Marshall, even Royce O Neal and Taurean Prince were right there, and all available for about a third of what Derozan was. At least they all would have gone a long way to solving spacing and defensive issues, and Fox might have stayed. Instead, they acquired a guy who’s a slightly better and older version of Malik Monk, and adds nothing to that roster.
I think DeRozan is a good player in the right situation, like if he was a sixth man or a spark plug in Denver, Golden State or Detroit right now he’d be perfect, but as we’ve seen throughout his entire career: if he’s your first or second option you are completely fucked.
They were never that good. They went the 2023 season with zero injuries and won 48 games.
I mean it’s not like they were some amazing team. Their record two years ago puts them as a play in team last year. Congrats.
which guy did they get rid of vs which guys still there 🤔
Being an ok team that loses in the first round for one season isn’t really that impressive
I would die for this man. Only one who actually gives a shit.
He did fight Rick Fox in the tunnel during a preseason game.
Was that a preseason game? Why was my whole family watching that
Because the Kings were the best team in the league, the previous season WCF was one for the history books and the rivalry against the Lakers was at all time high lol.
Keon Ellis?
The have Russell Westbrook on your team
Yeah a lot of guys in the league nowadays just collect checks
Waste of talent, no heart
They said this in the 2010’s, 2000’s, 1990’s, 1980s’, and so on.
Get a new narrative. Sick of this twitter/reddit bullshit that players dont “play hard”.
Do you honestly think guys on the Wizard, Hornets etc are playing as hard as they can? Especially on defense?
These types of stories come from players themselves, you know, the guys actually playing, not just me
They absolutely don’t play as hard as they can. But there were 20 win teams in the 70s and 80s and their players didn’t give AF just the same. Why would you? The team owner doesn’t care and the GM doesn’t and the coach…..
No - but I don’t think its a generational thing. I think there have always been teams that have played for paychecks. It’s not a new, 21st century thing.
They probably are. They can’t play harder because that’s not what might get them paid, actually. If FO wants the team to tank, they have to tank. But they need to stay sharp for the moment they need to compete.
They also break every traveling/carrying rules imaginable without repercussions. Why would they care lol
“Kings lose 145-100 as Doug Christie fouls out at the end of the 1st”
Put me in, coach. I can also foul the shit out of people for a minimum deal
I will kick Draymond in the dick for a minimum deal. No, for free! Actually, I’ll pay you!
what team would trade for Sabonis? Kings might still extract some value for him while he’s under 30
Any team. I’m tired of being in purgatory with a big that cannot protect the rim or stretch the floor
When you describe him like that it makes me question what he’s good at. If he can’t protect the rim he should play guard or forward but I’m guessing he’s too slow footed and unathletic for that. So what exactly is his role on a championship team?
Sabonis has fantastic footwork, it’s how he’s able to score and lead the league in rebounds every year, despite facing against taller & longer centers and he used to be the guy bringing the ball up the court for us when we smartly played through him. He’s just not a shot blocker.
Why don’t they play him as a guard then? The other team would either keep a guard in or play an extra big. If they keep a guard he has a mismatch on offense, if they run 3 bigs then it’s gonna limit the opposing offense which is added defense basically.
Our only other center is Eubanks, Maxime is a rookie. You need people to be able to sit on the bench and rotate out. You can’t run 2 centers and then no centers lol plus Sabonis been playing injured the last 4 games, was wearing rib padding all this game.
We don’t have any size and length. We have no forwards as it is already, even with Keegan back, he’s kinda it.
Oh so your team building is just trash. Tragic
What? Yeah our roster construction is trash lol that’s not news. Kings have been small and undersized even during the successful Beam Team.
while he’s making $40M+ he doesn’t have one, he needs a very specific team-build. Kings haven’t done him any favors but he’d need a shot-blocking/floor spacing 4 & a whole lot of perimeter defense around him - at his current price tag the juice just isn’t worth the squeeze
Hes a great player but we surrounded him with short iso guards who dont defend and are acting like he is the problem now.
He is extremely good at sliding his feet defensively
Unfortunately when your 1-4 is all backcourt dudes, there’s no use in having a big who can defend beyond the 3pt line because no-one back there will rebound
There is a reason Trey Lyles played so much for SAC last few years despite being the slowest person on the floor: he actually boxed out the bigs when Domas was out on the 3pt line blitzing guys like Steph, Ja Morant, whatever
When you describe him like that it makes me question what he’s good at
Great post scorer, fantastic rebounder and good passer for his size
This is what kings fans did with Fox too lol. They’d trash him and say he’s not worth a big contract but then also demand a huge amount of assets for him
Its because he’s not the hub anymore. Remember Joakim Noah?
with 4 ball hoggers, they’d made him a generic roll man, they’ll give you 10 and 11 but no assist.
Let’s see - he’s defensively limited, when he plays the 5 he’s too small, he can’t play the 4 because he’s not a good enough 3P shooter, he makes 40m+ a year… I’d say you probably need to attach draft assets to dump him
Sabonis for Ja (and maybe a little extra)?
We don’t want Temu Fox lol worse at everything on the court, injury prone as hell (probably never the same post surgeries), and a nightmare off the court.
There’s a 6’9 PG in the 2026 draft, trying to get him to go along with whoever we get in the Top 3 would be a dream. Kings could honestly be competitive out the gate with the young core we already got and those additions.
If he got on the Warriors, they’d all be perfect together, world beaters. It’s hard to make the money work though considering the contracts of their Big 3 there already.
Honestly if he found himself back in Indiana that would be funny and not bad, but he fits into a lot of teams, Memphis one of the best since you have JJJ to make up for the defensive issues.
granted i haven’t watched much kings lately but Sabonis’ archetype doesn’t seem like it’s that easy of a fit on a lot of teams. Non-shooting and non-rim-protecting big who kinda needs the ball in his hands as the offensive hub?
Like for the Warriors example he’d have a decent two-man game on offense with Curry but definitely doesn’t work well with Butler or Draymond as non-shooters. And the defense would take a huge hit if we instead assume he replaces Draymond
Definitely a hard player to build around but it aint gotta be perfect to find some success. However if your idea of building around him is trying to recreate these bumass Bulls teams than it is kinda doomed from the start no matter who you are trying to build around without even mentioning the extremely poor fit with Sabonis.
Disagree. I’m a big fan of Sabonis but Warriors issue right now is they don’t have enough shooters. They often play lineups with Jimmy, Draymond and Kuminga. Thankfully Moody has taken a big step forward and been draining 3’s but Warriors are waiting for Melton and Seth to return to add more shooting. Adding Sabonis wouldn’t help the spacing and Draymond already plays the stretch 4. Obviously Sabonis would be a huge improvement over Dray in scoring and rebounding, if he took Drays minutes. But Draymond even at his age has always been the ultimate Swiss Army knife on defense. And Sabonis’ upgrade on offense wouldn’t be worth the downgrade in defense. Warriors dream player would be a shot blocking 3 point stretch 5. Kind of like a JJJ.
Podz, Kuminga and whatever to match salary for Sabonis
Sabonis makes 42.5M per year, never gonna be possible
Feel bad for this guy. Good coach who cares, but happens to be the coach for a tanking and rebuilding franchise who historically does not handle even moderate success with any care at all.
“Coach, they’re outplaying us, what should we do?”
Coach: “Idk, foul them?”
This is the weirdest soundbite. If a team was getting blown out and their player hard fouled someone, people would look at them as a toxic sore loser. But Christie says they should’ve done it during a press conference and people eat it up?
wut this is classic coachspeak when a team doesn’t come out with any motivation or fight. It’s not about getting outplayed it’s about giving a shit
He’s saying make them feel you, not just randomly pile drive a guy and pick up a foul for the sake of a foul. We had ZERO interior defense, now we lack the size & length to deal with ATL, but that’s the point. The guys aren’t even TRYING to defend the point against them, as they walk in.
Doug is saying he woulda tried everything and give the needed effort to at least make them feel you and deter them from just gliding in on skates. When you’re smaller & trying hard to defend, you’re most likely gonna pick up fouls, that’s what he’s saying. Effort.
Crazy that not even 2-3 years ago they were looking like actual possible contenders again to at least get to the conference finals or close to it.
They won 48 games having no injuries. I don’t think they were ever at that level
They were at the starting line at least. Something decent to build upon at least. Completely fumbled it all.
The following season they won 46 games against a healthy conference, while dealing with injuries. Mike Brown got the most out of that roster, improving the defensive rating from 26th to 13th. Hell it was 9th for most of the season until the constant collapses towards the end.
Fucking Monte.
They never looked like possible contenders. They had an incredibly healthy season and they were just 4 wins ahead of the play-in zone. With average injury, they’d have been a play-in team that season as well.
They were never close to contenders. Maybe to casuals they were, that’s it. Anyone who listens to nba themed podcasts every week knew they had immense defensive limitations. Fun team, that’s it.
Doug is a real one, this is a verbal uppercut to Rick Fox’s chin. Starters, specifically Dennis & DeMar, play like ass for most this season… mainly those two. Low effort sad shit, they also happen to be the two guys that SLOW THE WHOLE TEAM’S PACE to a damn crawl which only hurts the Kings.
Kings are world beaters when in transition, pace and space, moving the ball. But Dennis and DeMar literally walk the ball up, then hold onto it not moving for many seconds, then go ISO. Fucking Carter, Clifford and Russ showed you what you need to drive, drive, kick, move and great opportunities.
How the hell do you not play hard when your coach is this hellbent on trying to win games
Bro aint gonna make it to Thanksgiving
if I know our ownership I’ll probably end up looking stupid very quickly, but I think he’ll actually “win” this one - he was Vivek’s hand-picked choice & is making well well below market value for a HC since they’re still paying Brown. Maybe it’s just wishful thinking but I think they’re closer to selling off & rebuilding than firing and paying another coach
Fair enough, but would they be happy with Christie calling out + scapegoating multiple all-stars and HOF-level guys?
Do you genuinely think there is any coach that can whip those boomers into winning shape?
This is the clip they play in 3 years when Kings are the 4th seed. Rooting for them.
What has happened to Sabonis?
The Joe Mazzulla method.
I love Doug Christie. If Scott can get him some young guys to mold he’ll have these guys running through walls. 48 minutes 24 fucking seconds at a time! Only up from here
Douglas dale Christie
He’s complaining about his teams effort, he’s the head coach, he’s responsible for their effort, or putting in players that will give effort.
Kings are in peak king form these days
Honestly, I believe him.
To be honest, I’d expect my leader and head coach to be a bit more professional than this. I get that the effort wasn’t there but this fool talking like he’s a player still and not a head coach. The whole “If I were you…” speech reeks bad leadership.
It’s why Bob Cousy suited up!
Bring back player coaches!
He was fouling the shit out of everybody while Kobe was dropping deuce after deuce on him back in the old days
Sucks but jsut firesale everyone sell 70 cents on the dollar and have him coach the next 2-3 years and then once you’re ready to make that leap get a coach who can get you there if he’s not quite there
The clock ticks for this guy. Idiot will be unemployed soon
Looks like Obama
he looks like a crackhead
Bye
