In the world we are getting my friend lol. Michael Finley has multiple all star appearances and the youngins don’t know who he is. He will be gotten just like there are probably several multiple all star participants from the 70s who I wouldn’t remember .

It’s just the context. They fired the guy who thought Luka was too fat for them, then said they were totally changing directions. And tapped the guy with the most publicly remembered reprimand of Luka for being out of shape.

Hes one of the guys who was glue guy but never big enough star to be remembered lol .. People still remember Ginobili , Parker, Duncan ofc but barely him if you just started watching NBA in those years and aren’t Spurs/Mavs fan.

In grade school I saved up to buy a Finley jersey when he was with the suns, was my favorite player. My dad took me to the team shop at the arena after school and I bought it. Shortly into the drive home, while wearing the jersey, the radio station anchor cut in to say Finley was just traded to the Mavs 😂 I didn’t buy another suns jersey for a very long time.

He was the first piece that kicked off the Dirk era and brought the Mavs out of a 15ish year dark age. 

It was the trade to get him and then trading to get Nash and Dirk. 

Not to mention he along with Ray Allen and Eddie Jones were the first Jordan Brand athletes outside of MJ himself. He was an impactful player in the post Jordan NBA. 

He would’ve been great in today’s era too. Awesome player.

Loved Finley, he was an equivalent of Iggy when you look at accolades. All Star, Team star until moving to a super role player in later years. Iggy lucked out hitching his wagon to Steph, Klay, Dray and later KD Dubs.

Finley is beloved in Dallas and SA.

I think Finley is kinda Mavs royalty and Nico didn’t really have a path to kick him out. But more generally, I think it’s probably healthier at this point to stop trying to peel back layers of the onion looking for new faces to blame inflicting more pain upon ourselves and try to move past it.

Didn’t it come out that the beer-taking incident was massively overblown because Luka was about to go do a media appearance or something and they’re specifically not allowed to bring booze on stage?

I haven’t (and probably won’t) stop crying about the trade for the rest of my life, but I still immediately recognized how dumb this post is. The beer thing was a complete nonissue, and Michael Finley being referred to in that context after playing for the Mavs for so long and then being a part of the org again since he retired is silly.

I’d bet the latter. I think millennials and older should recognize Finley from his playing days.

Maybe he is maybe he isn’t. But you don’t trade away a young player that can be the future of the franchise (unless you’re that one guy)
