You can’t put 2 defensively questionable wings like Derozan-Lavine and expect it to somehow work with a big like Sabonis who isn’t an elite rim protector. It was always going to be a disaster

When a Derozan-Lavine combo worked was those 2 were part of a lineup that included Lonzo Ball and Alex Caruso, two All-Defense level guards that wreaked havoc on opposing perimeter players.

The Kings barely want to play Keon Ellis who is one of the few players on the roster that looks like he can play defense lol.

LaVine is languid. Even when he’s playing well he’s the type of player that always looks like he doesn’t care. If you follow soccer he’s like Mesut Ozil. Bro I started watching during the Bubble playoffs every morning, started with the Lakers because I only knew Lebron and Curry, GSW wasn’t there because Curry was hurt. Watched the Clippers-Nuggets series because the Lakers wrapped Houston up quick, specifically caught all the 1-3 comeback games. I didn’t understand actual basketball back then at all, never had been interested, no one played the sport where I’m from, watched this uncoordinated fucker play while coordinating every aspect of his team’s offense and defense after watched Lebron pound the air out of the ball driving in and pulling out and then AD trying to straight line back down players before turning the shoulder to fade from midrange, watching Jokic run the Nuggets movement offense was like a feast worthy of a king just calling out to me. Not that I found Lakers/other teams boring, but there was just a lot more stuff happening in the Nuggets offense. Never missed a game since.

That’s just Denver’s(in particular, Jokic’s) rim defense though. I think I’ve seen Yves Missi get 30 against us. It’s part of the scheme, letting the opposing 5 get 2s, because it’s better to play to Jokic’s strengths on defense instead of him trying to do something he’s not good at. Jokic plays up, Gordon defends the perimeter, so our help isn’t big enough to really bother the opposing bigs when they roll with a head of steam from the secondary action, or just make good cuts to the basket. Random bigs off the bench can have these nights against us.

Credit to Eubanks though, his floater was cash tonight. Any other random big might not have made every damn shot.

It’s still early(and the schedule has been pretty easy) but the Nuggets are finally feeling like they have a “next gear” again like they did during 2023. You could literally see them switch it on in the 4th quarter, go on a 16-2 run, then get lazy again. A good sign for a playoff team.

It’s been easy so far but we’ve looked very convincing.

Under Malone we’d have fucked around in those games and probably dropped at least one, with a few others being unnecessary nailbiters. We had a notorious habit of playing down to weaker opposition so we’re not used to seeing us blow teams out consistently like this.

It’ll work itself out. Pressure is low right now and it’s a totally new environment with different expectations. As long as he stays chill and keeps working away, he’ll get good looks and they’ll start to fall.

As we can see with MPJ looking good in Brooklyn, it’s a totally different environment being the standout on a lottery team to being a consistent part of a contender.
