Victor Wembanyama: It’s just the beginning, there’s so much more I wanna add to my game
Motherfucker what else is there to add
3pt dunks, 4 pointers, aura blocks, teleportation passes
Telekinetic steals
Only way to challenge him is with Magneto’s helmet
NBA Live 2005 Dunk Contest
Hurricane kicks to knock defenders off balance
I will go streaking if Wemby does that to Jokic
He already has aura blocks. Think of how many MFs get shook, pass out of a drive and turn the ball over because they see this alien looming in the paint
He’s already doing the aura blocks
Teleportation Passes
Instead of Shaolin Monks, next season Wemby is gonna buy some horses so that he can hang with Joker and learn from him.
Skyhook
Wemby gonna sky hook at the 3pt line.
Unironically think he should develop it
Actually don’t need this one. His regular jumper already works as a skyhook because ain’t no one blocking those.
The problem with Wemby is everyone focus on his height and length but his speed and strength is underrated. You need someone stronger and just as fast or faster to permanently stick with him on defense, and I don’t think there’s more than 1 or 2 players in the league, if any, who can do that. Because the defender needs to be tall as well or Wemby literally can walk over him.
would be hilarious to watch. I think he attempted a 3pt lay up once or twice last season as well, or something like that. Mental.
His best Curry imitation. Bombing off-balance 3s from over 30 feet out, pulling up just inside half-court and shooting over everyone.
He did that last year. Everyone hated on him for it, but he led the league in logo 3pt% IIRC. Shot like 40% or something, significantly higher than he shot on regular sane people threes.
He needs to learn body-duplication so that you’re playing against 10 wembys at any given time.
Strength I guess? Tighter handle? (if that’s even remotely possible at his size)
3pt layup, hook shot from the 3pt line, 50/40/90 shooting, no look block, hyper extended dribble handoffs, fuck it just do alien stuff
no look block
I could swear he’s already had one of those.
Yep i feel he has. It would be insane if he could pull it off every game
The Harden school of dark arts…
Akashi’s Emperor Eye
Vanishing shot
Bro’s gonna add instant transmission at this rate
He might genuinely be the GOAT when it’s all said and done. Hell he can win MVP as early as this year. The Mavs have one of the best front courts in the NBA (other than the Rockets) yet he cast us aside like nothing.
Mavs entire starting lineup is frontcourt and it still wasn’t enough.
“Mavs entire starting lineup is frontcourt” sent me
it was entirely frontcourt except klay
Klay has been a 3 for a few years now.
He was defending 4s on the warriors lol because he was decent in the post and getting roasted on the perimeter
People forget that Kerr put Klay to guard fcking Horford lmaooo
What nba has the weakest or smallest frontcourt in your opinion
GSW except dray will go for the injury on wemby im afraid
I knew he was the GOAT when he was repping Buena Vista Social Club on Instagram
man of culture
bet he likes hairy women too
Disliking big boobies is the French way.
The goat debate does not begin until theres multiple MVPs and rings
Greatest career yes but best player doesn’t require that. Ring culture’s so ingrained in sports discourse that no one ever brings up that Bird called MJ the best player ever his rookie year (a year before the more famous “God disguised as Michael Jordan” quote):
Bird recently volunteered his vote for Jordan as the finest athlete he’d ever witnessed or opposed, mentioning the Bulls’ electric rookie in the same monologue as Wayne Gretzky. After observing Jordan gyrate for 41 points, a game-high 12 rebounds and 7 assists Tuesday night, Bird was in no mood for second opinions. “Best,” said Bird. “Never seen anyone like him. Unlike anyone I’ve ever seen. Phenomenal. One of a kind.” In other words… “One of a kind,” he repeated. “That’s what I mean about the league. With guys like him coming in from college year after year, we just can’t help but get a better image, better crowds, better TV ratings. He’s the best. Ever.” Better than Larry Bird? “Yup,” said Bird. “At his stage in his career, he’s doing more than I ever did. I couldn’t do what he did as a rookie. Heck, there was one drive tonight. He had the ball up in his right hand, then he took it down, then he brought it back up. I got a hand on it, fouled him, and he still scored. And all the while, he’s in the air. You have to play this game to know how difficult that is. You see that and figure, ‘Well, what the heck can you do?’ “ One of Jordan’s creations didn’t make it to the scorebook. Near the end of the first quarter, he posed at the center line, dribbling seconds away, like an airplane about to take off. Then he bore through and over a sea of green jerseys for a slam. Mike Mathis, the out official, figured something so spectacular couldn’t also be legal, so he whistled Jordan for an offensive foul. “Best,” repeated Bird. “I’d seen a little of him before and wasn’t that impressed. I mean, I thought he’d be good, but not this good. Ain’t nothing he can’t do. That’s good for this franchise, good for the league.”

lol he’s gotta actually get the Spurs above .500 and to the playoffs before we even have discussions about GOAT man
Well he’s off to a great start then since the Spurs are at 1.0
Spurs should be good this year..
The scary part is that Dereck Lively signature skyhook just gets easily blocked by wemby.
Lets have him get a healthy season in first. I agree he could have a goat peak, but he probably wont have the longevity of bron or even MJ due to the way he’s built.
He really needs to stay healthy…
he’ll be insane once he grows a little taller
U got me
The first time Wemby dominates Jokic head to head this sub will melt down, it will be world war 3 for r/nba
Nah Wemby is pretty much unhateable. He is too wholesome.
You say that now til he upgrades the Harden/Embiid software.
Haters could hate his wholesomeness.
Look at SGA. I’m probably gonna get downvoted in this sub just by mentioning his name.
Most of the hate towards SGA comes from the fact that he is almost unwatchable for many fans, not from his personality.
Those phantom calls in clutch moments or momentun runs for OKC were entertaining af to me wdym
Which I’m baffled about. I think the hatred is moreso of the sheep mentality. When I watch Shai, I don’t really see foulbaiting as much as this sub or NBATalk would like you to think. I objectively see Jokic flops more than him and everybody loves him. I think Shai is more entertaining on the court because he probably has the best handles ever for someone his size and the midrange game is so fun to watch. I genuinely think if everyone on earth had amnesia about NBA players, the hate towards SGA would be much much less.
Absolutely not lol. Jokic flops a bit but he gets so so much contact he leaves some games looking like he scrapped with a cat, Shai just gets the best whistle o ever seen a player get at minimum contact, and he WILL look for that contact lol
Everybody gets scratches. Jokic is white so it is more visible relative to other players.
I go into every game watching Shai with 0 malice and can’t finish most of them. You’re telling me he has the best handles ever for someone his size and goes flailing around that often? Can’t be both. There isnt anything wrong with playing to maximise your chances of winning, which he is doing. It just isn’t fun to watch
Lol no. The way he flails and cocks his head back on drives is plain unwatchable, at least Jokic wows you with a pass, an unbelievable off balance shot or a a nice up and under fooling a triple team every game. Shai is boring to watch, I’m sorry. I’d rather watch Jdub’s ugly mug - he had most of the highlight worthy moments for the team anyway.
Yup. Y’all are the ones that I’m talking about.
Trust me — Reddit will find a way
We’re gonna hate him when his team goes 82-0 5 seasons in a row
I don’t hate him but Chet should’ve been the ROTY. Chet was #1 in west and Wemby was the worst in west. They still gave it to Wemby because of PR. Winning should matter.
Wemby played on a shit team compared to Chet. Chet wasn’t #1 in the west. OKC was.
Why would this be important? Why don’t we do it for MVP then? A good player is expected to elevate a bad team, which is exactly what Chet achieved. OKC wasn’t as good as they are now before Chet played. SGA wasn’t even in the MVP conversation yet. It all changed after Chet’s arrival.
Because a rookie of the year award having the same standards as the mvp award is dumb. They’re rookies…why should they be expected to carry trash teams all by themselves, like mvps do? Even without Chet, OKC was still really good. Spurs were a bottom of the league team before Wemby came.
Swap teams and Chet would fold
You can’t prove it. And we can’t make our decision based on what ifs. We only have the facts. And the fact is that Chet is a winner with a ring. And he was also the winner in his rookie season.
For me, all prime awards like MVP, MIP, ROTY, 6Man, COTY should be chosen from the top 1 team. Winning is the only thing that matters. We actually apply this rule for FMVP. We should apply it for every award.
Best rookies get sent to worst teams, are you that dense?
Then explain Chet? Was he the worst rookie? I don’t think so.
Being in a good/bad team is part of the equation. Put Jokic in Charlotte Hornets. He isn’t winning any MVPs for his entire career.
Also, bad teams draft consistently bad. And good teams draft consistently good.
Ah youre ragebaiting, carry on without me.
There’s no way this is a genuine take. I can’t bring myself to believe it 🤣
That will be the point this sub turns on Wemby 😂
I am already turned on
When is Spurs Nuggets first matchup, it will be the most must-watch tv in history of tv
Why? Most of us like Wemby too.
Did you actually believe the “this sub glazes only Jokic” narrative?
Brother, one of you is in this comment thread rage baiting by insisting Chet should’ve won ROTY over Wemby…
So? When did one guy with a Nuggets flair somehow represent the entire fanbase or r/nba as a whole?
It’s easy to like him now, but when he gets 10 blocks against your team in a playoff game, it won’t be so easy.
Nah. If he can repeat his performance, even if it’s against the Nuggs, that’s historic-level greatness. That’s something to be celebrated, just like how we celebrate people like MJ.
What’s the point of being an NBA fan if you can’t marvel at great basketball like this?
Here’s the thing about training with Dream….
Hakeem has said in an interview that coming to him is not a guarantee of success. You won’t automatically turn into a great post player. He was saying that he can teach you moves but knowing when to execute them is almost innate. Dream was saying it’s not common for players to understand when to fake, when to counter and what counter to use, etc.
This latest evolution of Wemby is so exciting.
I wonder how much Hakeem charged Wemby per session.
Two years ago it was \(50k/session. I was gonna guess it's probably close to \)100k/session now, but I feel like Wemby is so special most people want to work with him so I’m thinking it was actually way less.
Won’t the Spurs pay for this?
Hakeem as a developmemt coach
One off Advisory/consultant paid by session. Hakeem himself wouldn’t want a full-time commitment.
So, his rookie salary is well spent. Imagine it costs you a million (a quarter of your net yearly earnings) just to learn a little bit of footwork.
Sengun also did the same as I remember.
The team will actually pay for this. So it doesn’t matter, and it’s like chump change either way.
What if an entire roster wants to learn how to dream shake? I don’t think teams pay for things beyond their own staff’s offerings. This is like LeBron spending millions of dollars per year for his body recovery. NBA is pay to win. If you’re rich from family, there is a high chance that you’ll succeed. Example is Steph.
Teams will choose who they pay for and that’s the unfortunate truth. Same with Spurs legends, when Timmy, Manu, David Robinson met up with Wemby when he joined I’m sure Wemby didn’t pay for that meeting, but the Spurs might have. And later on if there were sessions from Timmy or Manu, Wemby surely didn’t pay for it and the team probably did. The sessions with Hakeem is similar in this vein. It’s not a long term commitment from Hakeem, it’s one-off. And not every role player can request such special training they have to stick with team staff.
The example you have of lebron’s physical regimen is a bit of grey area. Because I know of stars (such as Luka) where the team would hire their preferred physical trainer and have them work exclusively with Luka - essentially paying for Lukas personal trainer. Lebron’s cryotherapy etc that cost 1m a year - I’ve seen videos and reports on team facilities with those freeze tanks that he and Kyrie used in the past. Things like that is really in that grey area, some costs are definitely shared, so lebron doesn’t pay for every penny of the million dollar (or whatever the total) overall cost per year.
Yeah it’s still pay to win. I wonder how Bronny would be playing if he wasn’t a rich kid.
Yup I remember the number 50k from a few years back.
Wemby charged Hakeem.
There is no way. I know he charged Sengun for 50k$ per seession. This is despite Sengun being Houston’s main guy. Hakeem is expensive.
Giannis said he didn’t charge him anything so I assume Wemby was pro bono too.
https://youtu.be/CbTjejSLvZQ?si=VD3x_JTCjF0R5Z25
Hakeem also said he is a player with no ceiling the NBA has seen and is the only player he’s seen that can beat his records.
The Dream turned Wemby into a nightmare
👏 Underrated comment.
Wow The Nightmare would be such a fucking insane nickname
The NBA should ban him if this black magic alien creation ascends any further because at a certain point it just becomes unfair lol
Can someone get him to calm tf down. It’s enough please don’t add more to your game.
Or can we Nico the situation and move him to the Wizards
You’re pretty wholesome for not suggesting thunder. I’m not. He’s coming to raptors.
Wembanyama MIP, DPOY, MVP season incoming
I put a $10 multi on it after the game just in case lol
Might have to do the same. What was the odds?
\(10 returns just over \)4600 😅
Damn that sold it for me.. Lets hope we’ll be $4600 richer in a few months then
Hey do you have the current odds on MVP? I’m seeing +350 at one book and +1100-1200 on google search but they might not be updated after the game.
How do you place a multi bet? I tried placing futures bets on MVP and DPOY but I couldn’t combine them on DraftKings or Bovada 😅
Wemby can be the goat if he stays healthy. Dude has a Jordan like mentality at such a young age.
I’m not sure what he’s hoping to “add” - what I witnessed in that game against the Mavericks was completely insane. He showed off every skill possible. Blocking shots, intercepting passes, throwing great passes, pick and roll execution, beautiful mid range shot making, low post footwork and finishing, dunks, slashing, ball handling, fadeaways, reverse finishes.
And 0 turnovers. It’s really hard to imagine playing basketball much better than this. It’s almost unfair.
The Mavericks have a very big lineup too and they looked like children out there. Anthony Davis, a very good defensive big was completely unable to stop Wemby. He just did whatever he wanted out there.
Add some fancy assists in there and you have everything.
Only thing he needs at this stage is mental toughness and more physical prowess.
He’s already stronger than his slender frame implies. But if he can add 40-50lbs of muscle he will literally be a 3pt shooting Shaq with insane touch and passing and way faster especially running the floor. He’ll be a better shooting and playmaking Giannis except he will dwarf Giannis. With his long frame 40-50lbs of muscle shouldn’t slow him down at all and, even if it does, he can build more longevity this way as he relies more on strength and less on speed. And no one can overpower him on defense, he will bully everyone, and next trip down he will run around everyone.
This is literal how you build a cheat code of a basketball player and the only thing that will stop him is injury/illness, physical or mental. Once he is completely in tune with his physical and mental state (no, I’m not smoking anything, he did just spend some time in a temple with monks this off season after all so he’s basically trying to get there) then every other great player might as well just retire, because there’s a new MJ in town and he’s 7’6 and he’s cockblocking everyone’s chip for the next 10 years and he’s not going to play baseball.
The only thing that can stop him is injuries. I hope he will be spared.
I for one am skeptical his body will withstand a decade plus in the NBA. It’s not even about his muscle or toughness, just the repetitive strain on the ligaments and joints of dragging a 7’5” body up and down an NBA court 80 times a year.
He’s going to be generational for 5 years, nagging injuries for 5 years, then slowly fade away.
Watching him more i think his strength is underrated. I also think he should continue to build his strength so other bigs won’t try to be overly physical and intimidate him. He needs to be strong enough so they will avoid being physical with him or he will at least be able to shed them off. Because the only way to guard him at this stage is to be overly physical, and if he can deter that, his career will last a long time.
Also he won’t need to play so fast either, slower movement and less burst will also preserve his career for longer. At this stage he’s playing very fast and with his frame that could be an issue. He needs some Giannis strength/build to fill it out. If he is just as strong as Giannis (which shouldn’t be too hard given his length) he can easily back anyone down, do some dream shakes/spins into a skyhook/windmill dunk. And shoot a couple of 3s when he’s tired of posting up. Rince and repeat.
Other teams be like… “Stop it’s already DEAD!”
Bro, please don’t
I can’t tell if that beeping in the back is from Wemby setting off the fire alarm of the Brinks truck backing up to give him a zillion dollars.
He was legit driving on AD like Giannis drives on guards. Ive never seen anyone lil bro AD like that.
At this point wemby gonna do that sky hook…
At 21, despite how well he plays, he’s also just incredibly well spoken and personable. Even if he doesn’t pan out as some generational great, I think people will look back on his time in the league fondly.
The game might create new anti-Wemby rules if this keeps up
Must be under 7’5 to play.
Or better: must be above 7’6 to play
His greed sickens me
If i was religious, i’d pray every day for his health so we can see him realize his full potential. And i’m not even a Spurs fan.
He dominated Davis like a manchild.
40%+ from 3 coming up.
Next season after preseason with Navy SEALs: 3-point dunks, Kareem hook shots, Jokić passes.
Is this what it felt like to watch Wilt play in his prime
Incredible
Sky hook coming soon.
Can he elaborate on what he could possibly add
This is literally the peak of basketball right here. We will never ever see a better prospect than this in the history of basketball. It just isnt possible.
The 2K Demigod has finally arrived
Hook shot, Floater and Passing
Hakeem the Dream creating Wemby the Nightnare
Really interesting. I wonder how prime MJ will fare against this alien lmao
Even prime Miami Bron/2018 Cavs Bron.
Just absolutely surreal this dude is on year 3 and looking like current Giannis holy shit
This is terrifying.
After what I seen yesterday I’m a believer. It’s been hard as a LeBron Homer for 20+ years and this guy might be what Keeps me watching.
Adding to his game like motherfuckin Thanos adding infinity stones
He’s special
Does r/nba jerk off wemby or luka harder
Biblical greed
