Anthony Edwards in win against the Trail Blazers: 41 pts, 7 Rebounds, 1 Assist, 1 Blk, on 50% from the field and 50% from 3
Anthony Edwards dominated the Trail Blazers in the season opener. Could this be him taking the next step up?
Wow, I was too busy watching the Spurs. He did that against that Trailblazers defense? Damn
Blazers defense is way amped up compared to last year too. They’re gonna be so nasty on that side if they can keep up the intensity they showed tonight.
I’d guess they’re benefited by it being game 1. It’s almost impossible to keep up that sort of defensive intensity all season. Especially since they’ve got Jrue’s old legs at the point of it.
i don’t think so. They doing like a 10 man rotation, they’ll be fine energy wise.
Blazers out here playing Bucky Ball
Camara, Deni, Clingan, Grant, and Thybulle all have the legs to keep doing it for a long period of the season
I don’t think it’s going to wane too much. I’m expecting a top 5, maybe 3 defense. The physical toll of playing so hard on defense is definitely helped by having so much defensive depth, most of whom are very versatile players also
I guess you missed their opener last season. Night and day.
It’s OK to give credit to another team. Their roster is loaded with plus defenders. Thybulle is back healthy. They added Jrue for Simons. Avdija, Camara, Clingan, and Grant return. Scoot has the motor and Shae looks to have improved on that end (maybe not on offense). Oh, and Time Lord is still an impact player whenever his body will let him stay on the court. Blazers are maybe the nastiest defensive team in the West except perhaps OKC. It wasn’t a one-off thing. It will be their identity this season.
What are you trying to insinuate?
Tracking data shows that people move faster in early season games. It’s not “cope,” or whatever you seem to be implying, to say that they probably can’t play THAT hard all season long. They’ll play super hard and they have excellent defensive talent, but THAT level of intensity is just not really sustainable for all 82.
I literally was responding to someone saying “if they can keep it up”
Their defense was legit as fuck, shut damn near everyone else down. But Ant is him
Yeah he made a lot of tough shots especially down the stretch. Our shooting let us down feels like we lost one we had on the bag, but couldn’t hit an open 3.
Looking at your roster you don’t have very much three point shooters I’d trust when it matters so that checks out
Our only hope of scoring is transition and offensive rebounds this season, going to be a lot of fast, ugly basketball
Hey it worked for the rockets!
That’s what Dame is for next year
The west is in such good hands with SGA, Wemby, Doncic, and Edwards
Dude. You can’t just leave Jerami “29 points on 71% shooting” Grant out of the lineup like that.
Be honest, are you hoping that a GM reads this comment and trades for him?
Grant’s back up?
There’s this guy Jokic, too
yea only the greatest basketball player on the planet right now, no biggie
Are we sure it’s not Wemby after tonight?
Yes, I’m sure Jokic is better than Wemby
*For now.
lol the forgotten one
I think you are forgetting the european big who stuffs the stat sheet every night, Domantas Sabonis
He was the only Wolves guard who didn’t struggle vs Camara, Holiday, Wesley, Thybulle, and Murray. Portland throes out soooo many great perimeter defenders. Only team I’ve seen come close to OKC’s level of perimeter ball pressure.
Yeah, even camara, arguably one of the best perimeter guards wasn’t able to do that much. I watched the game, he deterred some shots from ant but they’d just force a switch onto grant and the mismatch was too much
Team defense very rarely stops superstars from getting to their shots, no matter how strong
He keep hitting crazy shots
The last step back…I fell to my knees in a Culver’s
Same but at hy-vee
Same but at Fleet & Farm
I can’t step foot in Culver’s after what Jarret Culver did to us🤮
Same but at Manards
Same but at Casey’s
Same but at Kum n Go
MVP loading… dude was so clutch
he deserves multiple MVPs. edwards is awesome
Thanks nuggs bro
Agreed, induct him into the HOF
I did not expect to see this from a Nuggets fan lol
If Ant actually contends for MVP then he’ll be hated lol
Jokic shoulda got it last year
luka shoulda gotten it in 2023⁄24
Harden should’ve gotten it in 2016⁄17
KG should’ve gotten it in 2003⁄2004. He did get it; but, he also should’ve.
I think Wemby is getting them all until he retires
League is in very good hands, just hope the top guys all stay healthy this season
I see a few Wemby vs Ant playoff showdowns in our future. Should be fun
Would be awesome
We have;
Lebron, KD and Steph past their prime
Jokic and Giannis at the tail end of their prime
SGA and Luka in the middle of their prime
Wemby and Ant at the start of their prime
It’s looking good
I’m thankful Ants an Ironman I can’t imagine watching a wemby Chet being scared they could snap at any moment
Don’t say these things please
Dude is insane. That secret handshake with a sad Toumani at the end was pretty funny lol
Camara didn’t want to do it, but Ant literally forced his hand.
I didnt know they were college teammates until last night. Didn’t even know who Camara was until late last year when Portland started to win more
I dont think Camara had a good night on offense that hes capable of, but Grant made up for a lot of shortcomings from Sharpe and others. Thought the game was goin to be an ugly game in the 90s or 100s not in the 110s. Felt like the Wolves should’ve lost by 20 or won by 15, Portland countered every momentum the Wolves started to get with a mini run on their own, we were allergic to tying or taking the lead for 45 min. very frustrating to watch as a wolves fan
Yeah they were on the team together at UGA and we missed the tournament. Tom Crean masterclass. Camara transferred to Dayton the next year.
Well that was Covid shutting down the tournament, or you would’ve missed it regardless?
Yeah it was COVID but to your point we were 16-16 and 5-13 in the SEC. Would’ve had to win the SEC tournament to get in 😬
Happens sometimes haha. Creans works with the wolves pregame show now with fan duel sports
The Trailblazers defense was incredible. To go for 40 against that was special
Dude was a nuke out there. Credit to Portland - their defense is brutal.
Sometimes you just have to tip your hat to insane performance. The dude could not miss. Ant-Man really played like a superhero out there in this one. It began to feel inevitable after a certain point. The thing about basketball is that you can’t really do much when someone is simply making every shot. I’m a defense-is-underrated guy when we talk about this game, but there is no cure to great shotmaking.
Great shotmaking is the big joker(spades) in basketball. I love defense and rebounding, setting picks all that shit as much as anyone but I have to concede the biggest impact a player can bring to a team is the ability to hit difficult shots with some regularity.
I forgot just how much I loved watching him play
He was god like
Portland defense was ridiculous.
Very annoying team, respectfully.
Looking like he improved the middy without becoming obsessed with it or giving up too many 3s, love to see it
Yeah very good shot balance
Kind of looked like a young KD with his scoring ease ngl.
Yeah I honestly think that’s the most impressive part. Usually when he tries to work on something it takes him a bit to work through it at the expense of other parts of his game but he looked great tonight
He took over the end of the game. EXACTLY what you wanna see from your superstar
He’s the one jack
Can’t wait for friday so I can watch my team try and guard him with hopes and prayer
Marcus smart is the perfect guy to put on Ant because they way to defend him is just foul him he has a knack for not getting to the line
Ant Wemby duking it out for MVP for the next decade
That last bucket was absolutely nasty against a great defender
HES BACK
This Ant vs Luka battle for MVP will feed generations
Wemby Erasure
Ant Luka SGA Wemby Giannis Jokic are all playing insane ball, could be a crazy mvp race this year
Jokic and Giannis are not winning again after voter fatigue. Even for SGA there’s voter fatigue and the combination of a great supporting cast. Ant and Luka are definitely the favs imo and Wemby not far behind.
Ant team will probably be way better
I mean Luka Garza is a solid bench guy but I don’t think he’ll be getting many MVP votes this year
He is one of the greatest shooting guards of all time already
He’s good.
Many are saying this
Anthony Edwards
Ant absolutely balled out tonight
Ant-is-he Edwards
He’s only 24 😭
One of those “pass? Just get the rebound.” games. Even Camara didn’t impact him tonight
What’s crazy is I think Camara did impact him and he STILL got 41
Ant tried getting people involved but they were vlanking when he passed to them
He is great, probably the go to guy for USA next Olympics run
Luka, Ant and Wemby all about to run the league this year and I’m so keen for it
Portland defense is elite. They’re going to be good this year
I couldn’t watch the game because I had to do college homework (kill me now pls), was he as good as the stats say?
Better. Missed a bunch of bunnies at the rim (partially because he got hacked) and made a lot of smart plays with the ball. Teammates just did the most unbelievably stupid shit every time he gave someone the ball.
He needs to get into the gym with some premier floppers because he gets hacked so much with no reaction
Better
That 1 block was wild too
Give him his flowers
Went all MJ moves in the clutch vs jacking threes like last year
Hot take, but he is probably the best all ball defender in the league. Best athlete in the league. If he was the primary defender on Shai last year in the playoffs, Timberwolves would have performed significantly better.
Tony is 2 lazy for that
3 of those 3s are heaves as well
Nah those don’t count anymore
Should be in the same breath as the top guys like Jokic and Shai
AntHIMy
everyone is stepping the fuck up
Ant is just him
saw everyone dropping 35/37/40 pieces and decided to drop 41 to end the night
Billups had the over
I’m at this Culver’s and I just saw this dude fall to his knees. Yeah. He’s that good
Notably, he would have been 14-29 if not for the new heave rule.
He shot a 40 foot heave. But since heaves only count as beyond half court, it counted as a miss
He shot two heaves, one was the 40 footer to close the half, he shot a longer one at the end of the first quarter
I’m sorry this sub is only for Wemby posts.
Wolves were still in playoff form playing too physicality and giving the flopping trailblazers so many soft fouls
Y’all crying about the fouls while benefitting from the refs swallowing their whistle on your behalf in the 4th. Gobert’s moving screen and Ant stiff-arm were pretty pivotal moments
It is duly noted to me now that Portland is soft. Every other play one of them were diving for the floor hoping to draw a foul instead of playing defense. It gave us a few easy buckets actually when the refs saw it too and called nothing while the shot went through while the defender was laying down lmao. Ant showed em who’s daddy so np
It is duly noted to me that you are a crybaby even when you win. Both sides played physical and got away with a ton, gg and hat tip to Ant
GG, not being a crybaby about the refs though, just voicing that I don’t respect that Portland played soft, it’s a loser brand of basketball. I’ll concede that your defense looked damn good and hungry, also great shooting from 3 you guys were annoyingly sharp tonight
Edwards and Doncic are going to be neck and neck all season for most whines. Edwards will easily lead the league again in saying slurs, though.
Ant was incredible, that second to last shot was the most blatant push off I’ve ever fucking seen though. Gg timberwolves
It was a push off but also Jrue blatantly flopped on that if he reacted less like he got shot more like a normal push he might have got the call
Yeah because calls are made when people react less to fouls. Get a grip on reality dude.
Ant might win the MVP, he’s fucking incredible. But that’s as blatant of a push off that’s ever existed
I mean he responded like he got hit by a crowbar so from the refs perspective it looked like a flop (because it was).
You realize there are ‘flop’ calls in the nba. Why didn’t they call it a flop if it was so blatantly that in ‘their’ eyes?
You are making up a narrative.
Your boy went crazy tonight. Enjoy it. Don’t do this where you put down other teams/players because you are defending a narrative. If you don’t think it was a push, that’s cool. I do, all good, we move.
Pretty sure you already penciled this game in as a W anyway, politely fuck off.
I mostly agree with you except that refs never call flops even though they happen all the time now. That rule might as well not exist.
That’s a fine argument but not when homie above claims he is inside the refs mind. You can look at my comments on my profile, I’m not really talking shit, dude is just mad insecure
Dude you commented first just don’t reply to the reply if your so mad
I’m not mad, I find your framing to be delusional. It is what it is.
I have to agree that it looked like a push off. Very SGA like. Luka does it too. So does Tatum. They are letting the stars get away with it.
Completely agree and if you get away with it you do it. It’s frustrating as hell though lol, especially against an unguardable player like Ant.
on Grant?
I think it just looked worse cause Grant tripped
Which is a natural response to getting stiff-armed?
nah their feet got tangled.
LOL! That “push off” was with no leverage and arm already fully extended. It was a combination flop/off balance by Grant.
And one clutch push off
Portland was flopping like Italian soccer players in the clutch. It’s an ugly look. They were lucky not to get t’d up.
I respect the shit out of their defense but the combo of that intensity while also flopping is incredibly lame— and will probably win them a title because apparently that shit gets rewarded lately.
1 assist. Told yall he’s gonna avg 33⁄2 xD
Nah he always got the skill. Its just the leadership on the court that needs to improve
Ants always been a good leader on the court you can speak to the off the court stuff but Ant is the definition of a leader
Not basketball wise. Not yet. He’s a good locker room presence though
You don’t know this team if you think that
Nah he just got rid of whats been holding him back. James.
Question; when Ant retires, which will be higher, his career average on rebounds or his child count? What is the consensus?
1 assist is crazy lmao
Wolves missed all kinds of open shots on passes from Ant.
I mean it doesn’t matter y’all got the win, also sometimes you just have to takeover
Also watching the highlights back, there were a LOT of ant driving in and dishing it out to an outside man who found the free man for the shot, he had incredible vision and passing so its a misleading stat to draw conclusions from his playmaking ability
He had a lot of hockey assists or people missing easy layups haha
Everyone this is a serious send thoughts and prayers for a healthy season lol so many pieces and teams that are exciting to watch. Also this is now Wembys league.
28 shots and 1 assist is not a good look.
W is always a good look though!
Teammates have to actually make the open shots you create for them in order for you to get assists.
If you actually watched the Wolves, then you would know that Ant would have more assists if his teammates hit shots. Boxscore watcher casual
