I was under the impression that he took threes last year to improve that part of his game. The Spurs was still developing back then and wasn’t aiming for contention, so why not have Wemby practice chucking threes in a real game environment so he gets used to it? And, it worked in the end, as his 3P% improved leaps and bounds.

Like, both he and we knew that it’s going to be bad at the start, but that’s all the more reason to work on it. It was already paying dividends since the Mavs couldn’t just leave him at the arc like they might have done for some other centers.

He’s just asking the league the question “can you guard me on the interior at all?” The answer is probably “some teams can slow you down enough to make more 3s worth taking” but in the game where he scored 40 on 20 shots there’s no reason to do so.

I kept saying he should play closer to the basket to unlock his abilities. He’s too close to the rim with his height to be stopped. On the perimeter smaller players can help on him but close to the bucket everyone is toast. If he plays inside out there is no way to stop him and he can get free throws.
