Rockies To Part Ways With Pitching Coach Darryl Scott
Never knew the Rockies employed a pitching coach
Well hold on there professor. They “fixed the glitch.”
crying right now
2022 Jimmy Herget was absolutely lifechanging. In between suffering between Aaron Loup and Ryan Tepera we’d get to see absolute magic from the Slim Reaper
Dick Monfort will just have his son do it.
Damn, I was coming in here to basically make the same joke. Well played.
I genuinely just assumed this had already happened despite never seeing any news about it or even knowing the name of the Rockies’ pitching coach.
Yes, I thought they were completely cleaning house
Holy shit they had a pitching coach? Thought they just showed up, stretched, and hoped for the best out there
I thought Monfort did the job
They should hire dinger to replace him.
Scott was hired in 2020 to be the pitching coach.
The Rockies team ERA in that span?
2020: 5.59 (29th)
2021: 4.82 (25th)
2022: 5.06 (30th)
2023: 5.67 (30th)
2024: 5.47 (30th)
2025: 5.97 (30th)
3 straight 100+ loss seasons, 3 straight seasons of ERA’s well over 5.00.
You can argue about “well mountains” but they play half of those games on the road and their away numbers aren’t very good either. Eventually you have to look at the whole picture and make a change.
Not defending Scott at all, but pitching at altitude and then 5 days pitching at sea level is one of the hardest things to do in baseball
No argument there, it’s a legitimate issue.
But the numbers are really bad. You can’t fire the entire pitching staff, but someone has to go in this equation.
Also, and I say this all the time, why the fuck wouldn’t they do something in Colorado to help themselves out? I get that the view at the ballpark is literally one of a kind and majestic. I’ve been there, I agree with you. But how long are they going to just… keep doing this?
Using ERA- (unlike ERA+, lower is better) for comparison:
2021: 100 ranked 16th
2022: 111 ranked 25th
2023: 114 ranked 27th
2024: 117 ranked 30th
2025: 125 ranked 29th (Yikes, the Nats sucked this year)
So not as bad as the surface level stats, but still really damn bad.
They’re also 30th home and 30th away
I think the Rockies need a little more just a new pitching coach.
I dunno a better front office, better analytics team, new ownership?
Being a pitching coach for the Rockies must be the hardest job in all of baseball
“But I don’t even really work here.“
“That’s what makes this so hard.“
