Toronto Blue Jays fans donate to Seattle Children’s Hospital after ALCS series
What a Nice Canadian move.
And yet the Mariners sub was so mad about it
We’re not polite we’re passive aggressive.
Unless we’re talking about people in Quebec, who are just aggressive aggressive.
Only when the Habs play the Bruins. Your biggest Red Sox Canadian fan base is in Québec.
I thought it would have been in the Atlantic provinces. Even hockey fandom there seems to be an uneven three-way split between the Leafs, Habs, and Bruins, with some Penguins fandom sprinkled in from Nova Scotia because of Sid.
I thought it would have been in the Atlantic provinces.
It is
Oh, yeah maybe. But they are popular in Quebec as well. The Jays have gained bamdwagoners since the marketing pitch some years ago, but many hate them with a passion.
Oh, yeah maybe
“I’m just talking out of my ass why’d you call me out”
I’d rather have you guys cuss me out than behave like toxic in-laws, idk maybe that’s just me.
Well thanks for being passive aggressive then lol
Poor generalization. There were a couple grumps, but a majority of posters were happy with it.
why were there any grumps? did they provide a reason or just came off grumpy?
What nearly 50 years of failure does to a fanbase. Many Blue Jays fans get it though, since many of us are Leaf fans also.
I’ve seen nobody in the Mariners sub complaining that you’re donating to charity but alright…..
I have seen so much of this shit and it drives me crazy. Someone in the Yankees sub says “oooh, the Blue Jays sub is finally showing their catty side against the Mariners”, someone in the Blue Jays sub says “I hear they are hanging effigies of George Springer in the Mariners sub” and so on and so on. And it’s, like, a maximum of 4 people in one comment chain that nobody else is even aware of.
Why have you seen “so much of it”? How much time are you spending lurking around other team subreddits?
Brother you’re allowed to go anywhere on the internet
I never said you weren’t allowed to, but it’s also weird to be doing that.
I think it’s not weird. I would actually encourage lurking in other people’s subreddits for gaining perspective. If the only team you pay attention to are the Mariners, you won’t get grounded with the big picture.
And some in the Mariners sub would absolutely hang effigies of George Springer. The Astros are huge rivals of the Mariners. The cheating is a stain on Springer’s career and humanity that will never fade. Without accountability there just isn’t a way to close that door and move on.
You misspelled Jorge Polanco.
He was held accountable for his actions. Springer wasn’t so there isn’t a way to move on.
Sure there is. You get a life and you move on. It’s not Springer’s fault that he wasn’t punished. You think holding onto this faux bitterness for another 6 years makes a difference. No….no it doesn’t.
It’s also not Springer’s fault that you stepped in shit last week. It’s also not Springer’s fault that your (generally speaking) team didn’t get further into the season this year. ….Okay, well, maybe it was his fault against the Jariners.
4k people in the blue jays subreddit upvoted a post calling Seattle a “loser city” after the Blue Jays won a pennant and advanced to the World Series. There is good content there too but it’s def not a 4 person problem. Sorest winner subreddit of the year
Seriously? There was an entire post about it, it might have been deleted. Said the people donating were just performative and Jays fans are the literal worst fans in baseball
And 90% of the replies to that post were positive. “Like don’t care, money for kids hospitals is a good thing”
Yeah, everybody’s just picking and choosing whatever they want to hear to fit their predetermined narrative. Jays fans feel better about beating us if the M’s fans are stuck up assholes. Mariners fans feel better about being upset if Jays fans are snobby jocks.
The only one I saw on the M’s sub had a line in the donation message saying “shouldn’t have brought Bazardo in” and to some people that feels like rubbing it in obviously. It’s still a very nice gesture but of course tensions are high everywhere right now
I think it’s also about timing. This is one of the worst losses in Seattle sports history. Of course everyone was still seeing red less than 24 hours afterwards.
No might be, probably is the worse loss. People will bring up “should have given the ball to Lynch on the 1 yard line” but that was right after they won the previous superbowl. Easier to swallow
I had it originally as the worst loss but changed it because I didn’t want the endless “But the 1-yard line” comments. Ah well.
I agree. I’m still incredibly proud of my Seahawks for going to back to back superbowls. And I will be proud of the Ms for this season after the heartbreak heals. It’s just going to take a long, long time.
I think it has to stay might be until we get a few years out, the enduring pain is really determined by what the team does next (eg nobody is that broken up about the 2006 Seahawks anymore)
I think that’s a fair assessment. I think some Mariners fans are being unfair, but its a fact some Jays fans are being shitheads. Probably better for everyone if we let it cool down a bit. I feel for M;s fans and will be rooting for y’all next year regardless of a few dickheads online, but dont expect the same.
Jays fans are stuck up assholes. Mariners fans upset Jays fans are snobby jocks. the M’s sub had a line saying tensions are high everywhere right now
Jays fans are stuck up assholes. Mariners fans upset Jays fans are snobby jocks.
the M’s sub had a line saying tensions are high everywhere right now
/u/DarkGodRyan (if you delete a bunch of words…)
I think Mariner fans are just on edge after that series loss. A lot of us have had bad encounters with the traveling Jays fans. 95% of you guys are awesome, but the other 5% are the worst away fanbase I’ve experienced in person. All fans have bad apples, but something about this series brings out the worst.
FWIW: every single Jays fan I’ve interacted with on here has been a pleasure to talk to, but man I’ve experienced and seen some rude and genuinely awful stuff during the takeovers, like one dude screaming at children and another sexually harassing an M’s broadcaster. One of these dudes kept chanting “let’s go blue jay (singular)” so I doubt these people actually know anything about the team or the sport.
Unfortunately, I’ve experienced similar. Every blue jays fan I’ve talked to online has been super nice and that’s mostly true in-person. But, man, there is always at least one belligerently drunk asshole in my section every time I go to a game against the Jays.
Tensions between our fanbases are probably always going to be high because of that but ESPECIALLY after this series.
Desperately need Vancouver to get a team, that would help so much lol
so I doubt these people actually know anything about the team or the sport.
I’d say that probably more than half of the people who make their way to Seattle for the annual series don’t give a fuck about baseball. It’s a party trip for most BC people
I wonder if it’s just sample size bias. Are there any other teams that have as big a turn out in Seattle as the Jays do? Like I feel like I see more awful Jays fans in Detroit and vice versa than like Baltimore or Houston, for example
No justification for shitty actions. Fuck all those people and I’m sorry you had to deal with them. I just stand by my philosophy that every fan base has approximately equal numbers of shithead fans.
The only other team that brings a comparable number of away fans to Seattle is the Dodgers. There are usually more away fans at those series than home fans. That’s obviously a smaller sample than Toronto since they only come here every other year. I haven’t seen major incidents with them although I’m sure some have probably happened. Funny enough, they’re actually one of my favorite fanbases to talk ball with. I sat next to this one dude and we talked about prospects for a while.
Yankees and Red Sox have a 60⁄40 split towards home fans if it’s a weeknight and 70⁄30 towards home fans during weekends. Padres also have a similar amount. Usually big market East Coast teams and California teams that aren’t Oakland or Anaheim bring their fair share of fans. Brewers also traveled surprisingly well this year.
Also keep in mind that the fact that the Jays series is usually a weekend brings a ton of people from BC/Western Canada who want to party. I assure you I don’t judge all Jays fans by that one group of people!
And I had a HORRIBLE experience going to the Redskins/Seahawks playoff game in the 2007 season.
Tailgating was a nightmare, (crossed the “home field advantage” trash talk line)
Had a kid behind me with a 12>21 sign (Sean Taylor had been murdered 7 weeks prior)
I’ve got an on and off relationship with Seattle… I’ve been there like 10 times (my brother lives there)… Sometimes it’s awesome and I never want to leave, sometimes it sucks and I can’t wait to get home.
But I’ll never say “I don’t want to ever go there again”. I’ll always either chase the high of the last time, or give it another shot after last time.
That post wasn’t an angry post though
There was whole post of it with 1k upvotes on mariners sub…but alright…
Half the posts in that r/mariners thread are lamenting all the negativity from M’s fans in the thread. The shithead posts were deleted but there were obviously a ton of them complaining
Dang that's a lot of negative in here Yeah, pretty dogshit by our fans imo. Thank you, its crazy the people are seeing this as something bad. That is a friendly rival comment. I'm not too bitter to appreciate this thank god I get y'all in the comments are salty but this is a really nice gesture. Money is going to a good cause. I get people are pissed but my god. OP posts him donating to a children foundation in Seattle, which gets tons more donations from their fan base. The fuck is wrong with people in here.
and more
By the way if you google Mariners Reddit performative and set the time limit for the last week, it’s the top result, even though it’s been deleted you can still access it that way, though most of the shittiest takes have been deleted.
Sort by controversial
https://www.reddit.com/r/Mariners/comments/1ochq2o/thought_id_share_this_nice_gesture_several_folks/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button
Eh, donating to the Children’s Hospital isn’t petty.
Donating to the Children’s Hospital and posting the studies that domestic abuse spikes after sporting team lose would be petty.
That’s actually a good point. Donating to domestic abuse shelters might be more timely, and SUPER passive aggressive
I read through that thread and the comments here and honestly, it was pretty level-headed for the most part? Most Mariners fans were very gracious, way more than most other fanbases would be, and most Blue Jays fans were good sports and did a nice thing. Yes, you have some shots fired but it was a great 7 game series that ended in dramatic fashion, of course many Mariners fans will be heart broken and Jays fans elated. I don’t know, compared to the way most fanbases act towards one another this one felt very civil for the most part.
I just read that thread and it’s full of salty, petty comments.
Wow, sorting by controversial gives you controversial comments? Who could have seen that coming
Literally every thread on every subreddit on this entire site will give you controversial comments if you sort by controversial. Even threads on the blue jays subreddit.
I’m a Jays fan and part of the Jays subreddit, so I’ll try to put this nicely.
You are a part of the Jays subreddit, why do you care what they do in theirs? I never went to any other teams subreddits because I don’t give two shits about what they do or say. I’m not a fan of their team so I don’t waste time concerning myself with their affairs.
Thats like being a Call of Duty player and checking out what Fortnite players talk about. Hell’s Angel biker and trying to go into the Mongol’s clubhouse to see what they chat about.
Jays fan’s made a nice gesture just leave it at that. I swear opposing fans just love going to subreddits to drive up drama.
Unless you share in the misery of never winning a World Series with them, then don’t go there. Let them do whatever they want man. We’re up, we won the ALCS, we move on. Coming off vindictive when we have no need to.
it’s because of the jackass statements people were making in the donation comment line. many of the mariners fans returned donations for canadian children’s hospitals.
Eh, its a rough time don’t hold it against them. And besides most were very positive about it anyways. No need to make a beef out of nothing.
Well yeah how could you do that very considerate thing after your team didn’t consider that we’ve never been to the world series…
I don’t think that’s an accurate reflection of the mariners sub overall reaction but hey you can go read the thread about it. There has been a lot of awfulness from blue jays fans in the past few days. 4k people in the blue jays subreddit upvoted a post calling Seattle a “loser city” after the Blue Jays won.
Probably because using John Schneider’s logic, most of the Blue Jays fans did not donate so therefore all of them did not. Just like potentially a small percentage of Mariners fans booed someone who deserved more consequences than boos, and it’s every fans fault. If only the worst John Schneider in Seattle knew the type of player Springer is!
Who cares what another teams subreddit is saying? Why were you checking it anyway?
I only saw it because someone left a negative comment on the Jays reddit post regarding the donations and I looked at their post history to see if they were even a Jays fan (they turned out to be a mariners fan) and saw it in their post history. I don’t post there or lurk there
They are?
Sorry, half of the fan base started watching two weeks ago.
Suddenly so many more Mariners hats being worn!
The Mariners sub needs a mental health check/break.
Lots of fans do this– they just aren’t obnoxious humble bragging dorks about it. Same energy as people volunteering at a homeless shelter for 5 minutes and posting about their experience on Facebook. Its Obnoxious grandstanding in a uniquely Canadian fashion. But I’ll be sure to donate to a Toronto hospital when they inevitably lose and post it about in the blue jays subreddit.
You know if people don’t post about their donations like this then it won’t get traction and get more donations right? Like do you understand to concept of going viral?
1000 looney tunes isn’t doing anything. I don’t think you understand how expensive Healthcare is here. Those neckbeards couldn’t finance a bedpan. Nobody is going viral lmao. I don’t a Canadian has even gone viral since justin bieber
lol, imagine having this reaction to someone donating money to help kids, you’re insane.
That’ll show us!
But I’ll be sure to donate to a Toronto hospital when they inevitably lose and post it about in the blue jays subreddit
I’ll take this offer!
screenshotted this! No backing out now bb.
Please do
With how wonderfully negative you are I’d be shocked if you say you’d donate then don’t follow through.
Difference is, the Jays didn’t post about it in the Mariners sub or here, it was on the Jays page encouraging others to donate and to see if their employers offer donation matching.
nice
“well, this is nice”
How can you not be romantic about baseball??
My answer is always the same: “it’s just a hunk of metal.”
Theres a side bet going on r/Dodgers whoever team wins (or loses, i forgot which) gets a donation to CHLA or Canada’s children hospital.
Im assuming thats the same bet, but honestly someone should make this a thing.
“Canada’s Children Hospital”
Babe we do have more than one
Not only do we have more than one, but we have the best one in the world
toronto has one of, if not the best, hospital network in the world
UHN is top tier
There is a significant number of people who will tune into the WS who think Toronto:
Pretty wild
Even I, who live here, was surprised to find out that there are only 3 American cities that have larger populations than Toronto. LA and NYC are considerably larger. Chicago is a little bigger. That’s it. Every other American city has less people than Toronto. Most by a really insane amount. Hamilton has more people than Kansas City.
Toronto is more populous than Chicago
I think it’s a metro thing. The greater Chicago area has slightly more people than the GTA, but Toronto proper has slightly more people than Chicago. By either measure, we’re either third or fourth on this list.
Metro Chicago is like 3-4x the physical size and spans three states
if Toronto took up the same area, anything within 100km of the city would count
is communist killed me, but also is sadly true
is snow-covered year round
That’s just silly.
Everyone knows the snow is only around when Canada builds their national igloo in Ottawa.
Well to be fair we Americans learn nothing about canada or Mexico in grade school. Mostly about the Europeans and vaguely how we stole california from Mexico.
Truth be told im shocked how Toronto or Vancouver isnt the capital
we Americans learn nothing about canada or Mexico in grade school
Fair enough, but don’t you seek out knowledge you weren’t taught? Wouldn’t it be normal to want to know a bit about your neighbors?
It’s baffling to me that most people aren’t simply curious about the world around them. Don’t you guys ever go down rabbit holes on Wikipedia just because you’re interested in something and want to learn more? When you come across something you don’t know the answer to, don’t you look it up?
I would actually go to the library reference section when i got curious about something in ye olden times. Now nobody has any excuses since literally everybody has an internet-connected supercomputer in their pocket.
I can’t imagine living in a world where i didn’t want to know more about what I was experiencing around me, and what lay beyond.
Im trying to remember more from my youth, but honestly the interent was a different vibe back then. We spent most of our time on miniclip, limewire, and raising the jolly Roger.
Wikipedia was taught to us that it was the tool of the devil. Yet ironically now that it has source links its a great resource material.
Library wise our libraries are vastly empty where im at and no one really uses them. Every tuesday I use to walk after school with friends to get lunch and then go to the library. Everytime there was maybe 2 or 3 people with maybe 7 people passing the entire 3 hours.
Now adays it was different but im talking about the point in time where people thought you were rich in high school if you owned an iPhone. Everyone had them Razr phones.
Lol the only way Americans learn about Canadians and people from Mexico are from films.
I’ve looked into and studied things like your healthcare system but that wasnt until college and mostly for my major to see the feasibility of healthcare for all.
Besides that there wasnt a passing thought to Google about canada. Granted the interent wasnt really used like it is today when I was growing up. Most of the time it was spent on video game websites lmao.
But yeah our education system hardly covers anything about canada or Mexico. Like we have no idea what canada and mexico was doing during ww1 and ww2. We weren’t even taught how we tried to take an offensive on canada only for the British controlled canada to burn down the white house.
Our repetitive world history only focused on europe, roman empire, ww1 and ww2, thats how shit our education is lol.
I mean most state capitals are random towns/cities rather than the logical largest city in the state.
The same could also be said with the District of Columbia.
Kinda funny, it’s partly America’s fault Toronto isn’t the capital. After the War of 1812 they wanted the capital somewhere harder to invade.
Plus, English and French Canada couldn’t agree on anything( some things don’t change)and Ottawa was the compromise.
Lmao the funniest thing is the war of 1812 was americas shame and that was basically scrubbed from all of our history books.
You’re actively proving the point
Im 100% agreeing with his point.
We learned nothing about canada or Canadians in our grade school.
But I’ve heard the wait times are like sooooooo long
/s
The wait times are only bad if they make you appear in front of one of the death panels. Worse service than the DMV if you ask me.
Every time someone says that unironically I just roll my eyes. I am in and out of doctors all the time for my mental health and I’ve never had to wait for anything longer than a couple weeks.
If it’s something serious you get in right away. I got a colonoscopy within 3 weeks of getting the referral this summer. And we need a medical procedure it doesn’t bankrupt us.
i heard our medicare system is checks note socialism/communism! /s
Absolutely not biased but we have arguably the best organ transplant program in the world. Perform the most lung transplants anywhere, and the most solid organ transplants of any centre in North America. Along with UofA and BC Children’s we also are one of the most cutting edge pancreas and islet transplant programs in the world.
Big shout out to Princess Margret as well for their top tier bone marrow transplant, cancer treatment and research programs.
Saved my life! Committed to donating to the Sick Kids Foundation for the rest of my life.
Same here on both counts. Spent the first few months of my life at Sick Kids.
Saved my younger brothers life 30 years ago and helped my best friends younger brother fight his cancer for a few years.
I donate every year to them. It is such an amazing hospital and I love when people bring up donating to it.
Yup Canada’s a big place lol
What the hell are you talking about? There’s only one, and it’s located on Canada Road, just on the outskirts of Downtown Canada.
If you prefer not to drive, just fly into Canada Airport.
Reminds me of the South Park episode where they go to Canada and have to Follow the Only Road.
This made me lol
lol i know they tried but this made me laugh, Canada isn’t one gigantic state 😂😭
🤣🤣🤣
But you only have the one road right?
Unfortunately yes but it does go the whole way across
This is only false in a very literal sense but is mostly quite true!
It’s the team that LOSES gets the donation from fans of the team that WINS. Dodgers win, Toronto children’s hospital gets donations. Seems like a great idea.
But a couple of us Dodger fans tried posting the same thing on r/torontobluejays but got denied at the border I guess.
Oof yeah we have been getting brigaded pretty hard but it sounds like your intentions are pure. We plan to do this, and one of our users has had a children’s hospital recommended for us to send to in the (admittedly somewhat unlikely) event that the Jays have a parade this year.
Sick Kids Toronto is an incredible organization that does a ton of important and effective research in addition to saving mad lives. Donations to SK:T are donations to research that can make all of our lives better and they’re also donations to help make a short life a lot better.
Bless you all. Baseball is the best.
That reminds me, I know Governor Newsom and Hochul had a little bet last year when the Yankees and Dodgers were in the World Series. I wonder if Newsom will make a bet with Carney or Doug Ford for this series.
it should be Ford talking title to title.
With all the federal budget cuts to hospitals, this comes at a pretty good time. Thanks.
It legit boggles my mind that a first world country the size of the US in 2025 still lets its citizens go bankrupt for getting a runny nose.
The cruelty is the point, my friend.
It’s a feature, not a bug.
Yup yup we’re the land of the fee and home of the slave
Been boggling my mind for a long time, buddy. Wish it weren’t that way, but certain people want to make their money…
This sounds the perfect time to send over $300 billion more to Israel
I heard that Argentina really needed that 40$ Billion for a bailout so China can buy their soybeans instead of your own farmers.
Yet next election those same farmers will continue to shoot themselves in the foot because the electorate is just stupid.
Ok fine, I’ll cheer for the Blue Jays! God!
Honestly Red Sox seem to be the best Boston sports team by far. You guys are super cool on Reddit
We can agree on that because I don’t even like the other Boston sports teams.
Go Sox! 🙂
I’m going to be very happy to see you guys take this in 6. Enjoy!
thatll show em!!! damn canadians!!! /s
Canadians are awesome
gotta be an overlap due to the blue jays fans also being Bills fans, right?
Speaking as a Bills fan: Yes. While I wouldn’t say a majority of Torontonians and other Ontarians (Ontarioans? Ontario-ites?) are Bills fans, the Bills are definitely the most popular NFL team there and some notable members of the fanbase are from there, like the dudes that made their backyard bar into a giant Bills helmet.
As both a Blue Jays and Bills fan, I never get tired of the love between them. https://www.instagram.com/buffalobills/p/DQDjjCrjJTR/?hl=en
How popular is American football in Canada?
I can’t speak about the rest of Canada, but it’s a distant 4th in popularity in Toronto among the big 4 leagues, though the Superbowl itself is a relatively popular event that a lot of people (even ones who aren’t fans of any sports at all) will tune into. But if my watercooler talk is anything to go by, American football games have never come up in conversations outside of the context of Taylor Swift and the Superbowl.
Based on my own experience, I’d say NFL is a distant fourth if we’re talking about team-specific fandom. So the Bills are a distant fourth behind the Leafs, Blue Jays, and Raptors. But if we’re talking about fandom of the sport and league itself, I’m tempted to say that NFL is second behind NHL in terms of interest.
I live and work in tech downtown and I will say that in my experience it’s super rare to meet someone who meets both of the following criteria:
I know way more diehard NFL fans downtown than hockey fans. Hell, it feels like four times more people talk about the EPL.
Maybe it’s just random selection or something but I feel like hockey is popular with the people who take the go train in from the suburbs - not people who live downtown.
I guarantee you that if the Leafs should ever win the Stanley Cup, the subsequent celebrations and parade would dwarf anything that the Jays or Raptors could produce. Hockey is massive.
Yeah man, there’s a ton of people in Hamilton and they’ll all GO in🫠
I know you’re right, it’s just not been my experience that you meet many downtowners who discuss them at all unless they need a convenient conversational symbol for futility when making some analogy.
but I feel like hockey is popular with the people who take the go train in from the suburbs
I am very called out but Leafs convos have done a lot of heavy lifting breaking the ice for work convos with the under 45, living downtown demo. At least in my experience people have gotten so apathetic about the Leafs that they’d rather talk about anything else.
I live closer to the American border in Ontario and I would say pretty popular. Especially now that the Bills are good. I know lots of people that cross over for Bills games. There are quite a few Steelers/Packers/Cowboys/49ers/Patriots fans around here too.
Hockey will always be first, but the popularity of the other 3 sports can fluctuate depending on who’s good between the Bills/Jays/Raptors at the time.
On the west coast the Seahawks are basically 2nd to the Canucks
It’s usually the #2 sport after hockey, but baseball’s definitely taken that over for the time being.
The Bills were doing also promotions for the team in Toronto’s Union Station in September when the NFL season started, so I’m guessing they see strong potential in Toronto as a market for fans.
Yankees fans would never
I mean, they probably would. They’d drop a lot of “fuck off, fuck you, fucking mother fucker” but I think the money would be the same.
This is great after all of the awful vitriol in the Blue Jays subreddit the last few days. 4k people in the blue jays subreddit upvoted a post calling Seattle a “loser city” after the Blue Jays won. There is good content there too but not a great look overall as community.
Team subreddits are insufferable trash in my experience - doesn’t matter the team or sport. When I used to frequent them, there was always a silver lining if my team lost: at least it would add to the misery of the people in my own team’s subreddit.
Yeah it’s a good way to help our guilt 😭
Don’t feel guilty. Your team won the series fair and square. Yeah the entire city of Seattle is depressed but, well, look, we’re kinda used to that by now. We’ll be fine 😅
I hope so lol I saw some painful reactions from Seattle fans both online and in real life that have been bumming me out these past few days
In order for us to have the highest highs, another team has the lowest lows. It’s just the nature of what we all sign up for by emotionally investing. The Ms did it to the Tigers and that’s just the circle of life.
Can they donate some of that universal healthcare?
Just become the 11th province and you can have that AND bilingual nutrition information on all your food.
Oh man we really do want you guys to have that 😢
Bills fans at it again!
Just added to the pot, $27.04. Go Jays!
Canada = good people.
Cool move. My brother got treated over there when he broke his arm.
Can we make this a thing in baseball!? Make it a thing that the winning fans donate to a local charity in the loosing teams home city?
Hell yeah
💪🏼🇨🇦✊🏼
That’s almost too classy.
Oh wow, that is so nice of them!
Just donated!!!
Will be donating $19.93!
Classy move.
hey, i’m the guy who posted the original post but it was manifested from a comment I made during the series saying that I would do it, because you know this is reddit and a lot of are passionate (it’s why i’m a huge fan of r/baseball) a lot of us have been members on this sub and others for years
I can think of a number times redditors made stupid bets about getting tattoos or eating a shoe or whatever right so I thought: “hmm, if I’m going to try and put some good karma out there while cheering for the team I might as well donate money to something that could help someone somewhere, I thought about doing like a pizza but then a Children’s hospital with a great reputation seemed like a better idea, especially now that I’m an adult that is fortunate enough to have some of the only stress in my life come watching my favourite team play a meaningful game.
I mean listen I only donated \(25 USD (lets call it \)35 CAD), I know it’s an insignificant amount in the grand scheme of things but I remember a few years ago Buffalo Bills fans got together and donated a ton of small $17 dollar donations to I believe it was Andy Dalton representative of 17 years or something away from the playoffs so that’s it.
What I think happened afterwards, and I can only speak for me and my own opinion, not anyone elseis that we saw a lot of the good character, values and respect and passion just manifest itself into donations to what I hope is one of the best places in Seattle to help kids going through real health problems.
This is really the only thing I’ll say about this, was just a fan and wanted to show that to Seattle and the Mariners knowing that in the offseason no matter what, we’ll all be coming back waiting for the next season to start and talk and socialize, chat comment etc.
I’m happy that it seems like members of r/Dodgers and r/TorontoBlueJays are coordinating and want to continue this and I’m of course going to contribute there.
I know it’s not perfect, but it’s my genuine hope that these donations do make a difference.

God Astros fans are weird
It’s pretty much been this guy for the last week. The others have actually been surprisingly pleasant.
It’s nothing new for the Daddy to provide
wtf
I think they might be saying that the Blue Jays are Seattle’s daddy. But it’s hard to tell with Astros fans a lot of them are odd ducks.
You’re not allowed to trash talk the Mariners on this sub, only glazing
Keep the money in Canada
Bro said fuck them kids
We got children’s hospitals too?
Just an FYI that kids in BC and Yukon access certain cancer therapies through Seattle Children’s. We have a care agreement. So it’s a great place to donate that helps everyone.
Ate Canadian children’s lives more valuable than Americans?
I’m not sure Americans should really be going after Canadians on the “who cares more about kids getting health care” front. But also let these people donate.
I’m not sure Americans should really be going after Canadians on the “who cares more about kids getting health care” front
Who’s doing that?
“Fuck them kids!” – /u/ImportantPen7761
Kids are kids man. Jeez
You’re not going to win this argument in this sub
You are free to donate your money to any Canadian charity you would like.
Wow. How very un-Canadian of you 👎🏼
wtf? this is a damn children’s hospital we’re talking about, not alcohol and other goods
Booo
