The 24 unwritten rules of baseball. Video by former MLB pitcher Trevor May.
To be fair, not being allowed to intentionally slap a baseball out of a glove isn’t an unwritten rule, it’s just a rule
Yeah they called him out as soon as it happened
On the reverse, I’ve always wondered why they don’t give the runners a push with the ball in their gloved hand. I’m sure there’s a rule against it but considering how often it goes to replay review and gets overturned when the runner is off balance, I’m surprised they don’t try to “make him” go off balance a bit more.
I always respected this move. At least it showed a little fight.
It shows a lack of impulse control and respect for another player’s wellbeing.
Trying to forcefully slap the ball out of someone’s glove is really bad sportsmanship as it could very easily cause a hand or wrist injury when the fielder isn’t expecting or braced for it. It ain’t a contact sport.
And a lack of respect for the sport itself. Right on brand for A-Rod
Generally I would agree but it was a last ditch attempt to keep the season going. And please it was a little slap there was no risk of injury
I bet Trevor is a wild man after a few pints
