[Highlight] No one in r/nba knows what a foul is
This sub STLL defending Smart doing dumb shit is hilarious.
Still sticking your head in the sand rather than listen to people with different opinions than you?
Tbf there are some upvoted comments talking about how it’s a clear foul on Steph. But holy crap the majority of that thread is just an unhinged circlejerk.
I mean dude if you objectively watched Smart last night he was kind of a disgrace. I know this sub loves him but god damn, he was flopping all over the place, twisting Curry’s arm, etc.. You don’t really get the benefit of the doubt from anyone after a clown show like that. And it’s kind of a joke to call this a “clear” foul on Steph. I can see the argument both ways
I always feel like I’m taking crazy pills when I talk about Marcus Smart in this sub. People literally don’t remember what an awful offensive player he was. I cringed whenever he made his first three of the night because I knew he’d launch about 7 more, usually on the fast break off the dribble.
We had so many garbage possessions when he was on the court because every year but his last one with us he thought JB, JT, and him were the big 3.
what an awful offensive player he was
Mr Kettle talking about others taking crazy pills lol

So you’re saying these numbers are… good? He’s played 12 years and shot over 40% 4 times.
Oh lol I see, you’re one of those people who think shooting % = offensive ability. Man you must’ve thought Tatum was dogshit on our championship run.
He was objectively bad on that side of the ball. Thinking you know something about my knowledge of the game pretty funny based on one comment.
Edit: here’s a breakdown I did of his shooting four years ago if you care to read it, which you won’t.
Man you must’ve thought Tatum was dogshit on our championship run.
You do understand that there’s a lot more to offense than shooting % right? Cuz objectively the logic you’re using against Smart would imply that Tatum sucked then too.
I do, and I linked you a post breaking down his shooting which you won’t read.
The Tatum thing you’re throwing around is wild. There’s a major difference between a main offensive option having a cold streak and a role player jacking more shots than they have any business taking.
You argue in bad faith. Have a nice day.

Did you just compare selling fouls to a dangerous flagrant?
I didn’t compare anything at all, my comment is quite clear. I listed his clown behavior and said that you don’t get the benefit of the doubt when you act like a fucking clown
clearly the refs feel otherwise considering how they called that play
Whatever word you wanna use, mentioning those 2 things in the same light as if they should have similar effects on perception is preposterous. One is a dangerous play, the other is good basketball.
“Preposterous”?? More like common fucking sense. Draymond acts like a clown all the time. If there is a clip of Draymond, the majority of people will NOT side with Draymond because of his pattern of behavior, regardless of what is in said clip. Same thing is happening with Smart because he is turning into a similar level clown.
But you have the green blinders on so you clearly aren’t going to get that. I mean for fuck sake you’re calling it “good basketball” when smart literally fucking jumped on Steph’s back, it’s impossible to take you seriously
I don’t think you read my comment very closely, you didn’t really respond to it. Take a breath.
Am i on drugs? How is this a foul on Steph? Smart has his hands up when he goes into the contact. Tries to get around him I think but ends up just giving him a Hug as Curry turns around to block him out. This isn’t even a hip check either as Smart does not look like he is going around him. If smart was actually going around him on the baseline I could see this being a foul on Steph. This just looks like a free player running into a box out and going high instead of keeping the contact down low (aka not a foul).
If it helps you to understand, as soon as Steph fouls him it doesn’t matter what Smart did after cuz the first foul already stop play. Like yea it would be a clear OTB except Steph is only even in the way cuz he turns into him. You still need to establish legal position for boxouts and Steph never did.
Steph doesn’t establish it because as he is establishing it, someone is wrapping their arms around his head. At no point are they in contact prior to that. At least not from this video. If Smart had the ball, this is probably blocking, but if he did have the ball his arms wouldn’t be going high.
Just slow the video down. Having your arms up isn’t illegal. Coming down on someone is, but again he’s only coming down on Steph after Steph turns into him. The ref was right there in perfect position to see it. You even had the right analogy with the blocking foul, Smart beats him to the spot before any OTB would be called.
I have slowed the video down several times. Having your arms up isn’t illegal but running into someone’s head and neck is. It cant be over the back either. The ball isn’t even off the rim for a rebound, it’s still on its shot path. Unless there’s some angle that I’m missing showing Steph contacted smart before, and not at the same time as Smart, I can’t see how this is a foul on Steph. At absolute best, Smart jumps too early for the rebound.
running into someone’s head and neck is
This just isn’t true if you’re beating them to the spot. With this logic you can dive head first into people going for rebounds and draw fouls.
Yeah people try that all the time and we heave had a ton of flagrant foul reviews on contact to the head and neck area over the past few years. That absolutely does happen. People will go up at someone instead of the ball. Even if the contact is inadvertent, it’s still called a foul on the person who made contact at the head and neck area.
You are conflating 2 wildly different things here. Making context with head and neck isn’t illegal, offensive fouls are illegal.
There’s really only so many ways I can explain “Smart beat him to the spot”
Guess we will agree to disagree then. Cheers
