[Ardaya] Dave Roberts said Blake Snell and Yoshinobu Yamamoto will start the first two games of the World Series.
Snell Yamamoto Ohtani Glasnow is such an obscene group of starters to throw out there. 3⁄4 are very well rested this season too.
Disgusting
This is also discounting sheehan who will be in the bullpen, had they wanted a 5 man rotation sheehan had a near 3 ERA season im pretty sure
I want to believe in him, but he’s been shaky at best this post season.
I mean after the first start where he couldn’t throw strikes and that one error vs the phillies, hes been good.
He has not been a good playoff performer dating back to disastrous Arizona series.
Why haven’t we seen sheehan during NLCS ?
never really was a situation to use him, Snell went 8IP, Yamamoto had a CG, Glasnow & Ohtani went long enough to bust out the “good” bullpen arms and then Sasaki right afterwards
I’d rather they’d used Sheehan instead of Treinen when BT couldn’t get anyone out.
That’s what I was thinking, there’s already too many starters
I mentioned this in a comment last night and it’s not like I was trying to be a dick: Seattle had a great staff, but I legitimately think their best starter would be our fourth best.
The blue Jays have hit well but they have not seen a staff like this.
The only saving grace is our proven ability to beat up on high level starters this year. If not for that I would have about zero hope lol.
Even if you can’t, the Dodgers have been proven to be quite beatable even when the starters shut you out.
Feels like the opposite of Seattle. With Seattle, it was “get runs off the starters, the bullpen is terrific.”
With the Dodgers, it’s “try to exhaust/survive the starters and get to the bullpen.“
Yeah, playing against the Dodgers is very, very much one of those games where having an 11 pitch out is arguably better than a 1 pitch hit. We whomped the Brewers so hard because they weren’t patient and patience is the only way to beat us.
If you haven’t been watching the Jays regular season, oh boy have I got news for you 😂
Ha, well, Brewers hitters were patient all year but weren’t against us. Not to talk smack but I think the moment may have been too big for them, they were way more disciplined against the Cubs.
So I’m not taking anything for granted, one way or another.
It’s also the fact that our pitchers adapted their strategy by throwing strikes, so the Brewers were adapting to that by not being patient. If you go down 0-2 every at bat, then might as well just swing.
Well that’s not a great attitude to have. Dodgers swept the Brewers yes, but most games were very tight. And with all due respect to Milwaukee, Jays have a much better offense.
I mean it took Toronto 7 games to beat Seattle but with all due respect to the Mariners, Dodgers have a much better offense and much better pitching.
Transitive property doesn’t apply in sports
Panthers 33-0’d the Falcons and that Falcons team a couple weeks later convincingly beat the Bills wire to wire
Brewers 6-0’d us in regular season and got 4-0’d
Nothing’s ever a given
The most dominant NFL team in history lost the Super Bowl to a goofy lookin guy named Eli.
Twice.
Series to series really means nothing in baseball. Dodgers could play like absolute world beaters, and then have the worst 4 games of their season. We’ve seen it happen time and time again in the playoffs in the past.
Every starter is capable of having a bad day.
And your guys can punish the hell out of a bad day. Gonna be tense, for sure.
Jays had the lowest K rate all season so I looked up our matchup in August to see how we did. Snell and Glasnow had 18 K’s combined but I feel like either of them could get shelled with one bad inning.
Phillies, with Wheeler of course, are the only rotation in the same realm.
Mariners are good too, but their era is noticeably worse away from t-mobile. Whether by luck, or a product of T-Mobile, idk.
Reds will be great soon, Greene abbot lodolo and burns are all under 27. Got a good thing going there
Yeah. The Phillies were the hardest match up that the Dodgers faced. 3 all stars hitters, and 3 CY pitchers.
Those LHP pitchers screwed up Ohtani so much that it took a live BP to get going again.
If they can keep the core and trade 1-2 more decent hitters, they can go long next year. Because now they have the blueprint. No one in the league has 3 LHP in their rotation to shut down Ohtani and Freddie.
You guys were far and away the best team the Dodgers have played in the playoffs.
I don’t even think it’s close. Jays sort of remind me of the Phils but Philadelphia’s pitching is just way better
Rhett Lowder too. Although I’m not entirely sure what happened to him. But his small MLB sample size was pretty great
He was just hurt the whole season
Lol seriously? How are there people still going on with this shit with a new team every year? They won’t be great, they’ll trade them away instead of building a great team with them. And their fans will support it since they drink that small market kool aid instead of just holding their owners responsible.
They’ve seen plenty of Snell in the AL, and he’s been nasty against them.
Y’all are stacked don’t worry.
I’m really not worried lol I would honestly be pretty surprised if the Dodgers lost this series. I still think Philadelphia was the most balanced, best team they’ve played.
But short series, anything can happen. Still thinking the Dodgers win in 5 or 6
At the very least, Fried and Rodon are in the same ballpark, and we hit them hard. Jays, oddly enough, have struggled against the non-ace types.
Dodgers have some impressive starters, no doubt. But I’m hopeful that we’ll do better than Brewers, in at least a game or two.
I mean this with no disrespect; I don’t think Fried or especially Rodon would make our top 4 rotation.
Maybe Fried. Definitely not Rodon. But I don’t know that Fried is better than Glasnow. That’s the only “if” for me.
No disrespect taken, they are Yankees, after all ;).
But, FWIW, they are both AL all-stars this year, and therefore some of the best AL has to offer, so I think that qualifies them for “being in the ballpark”. I would probably take Fried over Glasnow, just because of a longer history of excellence, but you’re right that Rodon would not crack your (top 4) rotation. That being said, he’s still very very good.
Gun to my head I’d probably take Fried over Glasnow too but I think people forget that just as recently as last year Glasnow was the ace of the Dodgers and was looking great until he got hurt (story of his career really)
Any of the four is better than our best starter
Gotta get them out of the game early. Dodgers bullpen is ass.
I agree with you. You just gotta pray you get to our bullpen because if you don’t…
It’s not ass like Everyone is assuming. Our high leverage guys have a 3.38 ERA in the postseason
That’s why we gotta get your starters out early. I know your leverage guys are good, it’s your middle relievers we’d have a chance to damage against.
If your starters are going 6–7 innings then we’ll never even get a chance to face the middle guys — it’ll go straight to leverage arms.
middle relievers will probably consist of wrobleski and sheehan if the starters cant go more than 5. will indeed be fascinating
It was so ass in the regular season Tanner Scott literally had to get ass surgery to repair it.
Has your bullpen ever been so ass one of the pitchers literally required ass surgery?
We had to do a bullpen game for game 4 of the ALDS against the Yankees and the Dodgers just going to roll four aces against us
I wonder how many homers they’ll hit
Probably 0, like the bums they are.
How dare you! Between Shohei n them, they combined to hit 3 in the NLCS!
They have more than Judge combined.
A crazy stat, but Judge Actually has zero NLCS HRs during his entire career.
Should’ve signed with the giants to get that monkey off his back
NLCS legend Arson Judge
They won’t strike out a single time though. Take that Vlad Jr.
Scrubs
Toronto is home, so none because there’s no DH!
/s
This was obvious. I think it’s in the dodgers’ best interest to start Ohtani game 3 and glas game 4. That way, if there is to be a game 7, Glasnow can piggyback Ohtani without removing a key piece from the lineup. Ohtani can’t piggyback anyone In a potential game 7.
Can Ohtani move from DH to pitcher mid game, is that allowed?
Yes, but once he’s removed as a pitcher in that situation, the DH spot is lost. It’s also logistically challenging from a warming up perspective.
Seems like we should change the rules and just let him do whatever he wants. I can’t see anyone objecting.
Maybe he could bugs bunny run and catch his own pitch.
I only object if it concerns my team.
But yeah, it’s dumb to still have that rule after they’ve eliminated the pitcher spot from the batting order.
I kind of understand it, the TWP roster spot is already an advantage that only one team currently gets. I could see it changing once the league has more TWP’s in the future but there needed to be some sort of balancing rule somewhere.
Nah, I want to see the alien do alien things all game and not get screwed by stupid rules. He should get to do advantageous things because being a two way player is incredible
(Though maybe starting next season, speaking as a jays fan lol)
Wasn’t there talks of that happening? Honestly I wouldn’t mind it.
Hold on he can’t remain as the DH?
Only if he starts
Not if he comes in as a reliever only when he’s a starter
I swear the balk rule makes more sense than the DH rule. At least I know I can’t be up there doing a balk like that. I didn’t even know I can’t be up there remaining as the DH like that.
Yes, but once he’s removed as pitcher the DH is lost and he can only remain in the game if he plays the field. There was some speculation that he could possibly play outfield, which he did in Japan using his cannon arm
Honestly, though, I wouldn’t be surprised at all if they get desperate and put Ohtani in left field for an inning or 2 if it gets to that point. Who knows.
I could be easily see that especially if he was coming to bat soon in the order when Dave pulled him from pitching. Decisions, Decisions no other manager has or most likely never will.
He appeared in the OF for the Angels seven times in 2021, on each occasion it was to keep him in the lineup after pitching. In 8.1 innings across those games he never received a chance.
That was first year in which the Angels let him pitch and hit in the same game and then the next year MLB changed the DH rule.
I just can’t see a team that cares as much about late inning defense as the Dodgers doing this, not when one bad outfield angle could cost you the game
You didn’t watch the WBC final?
(I agree with your logic, it would just be cool as hell if Ohtani went to the bullpen in the 8th and came out to close out the top of the 9th of Game 7 of the world series)
I think him closing the game in the 9th is absolutely in play, because ideally you wouldn’t be losing a potential ohtani AB unless he blows the game. It wouldn’t really make sense for him to piggyback glas in a game 7 and come into the game in the 6th and lose 2 ABs.
As a closer in the 9th? Absolutely would probably be the move. In fact I think regardless of how many games the series goes, if the Dodgers win it, Ohtani most likely will be the one to close it out unless it’s my game 7 scenario.
Instead of piggybacking Glasnow, they can just have Ohtani be the opener for Game 7. The most crucial hitters bat in the first inning as well. This allows Ohtani to stay in the game till he reaches his limit, Glasnow to take on the bulk, and Sasaki to close the game.
It would be closing out the bottom of the 9th since game 7 will be in Toronto.
Nah, Ohtani hasn’t pitched on 4 days rest all season, nor Glasnow on 3 days. Having Glasnow in game 3 so he starts on four days rest in a potential game 7 makes the most sense.
The order of starts has been Snell, Yoshi, Ohtani, Snell, Yoshi, Glasnow, Snell, Yoshi, Glasnow, Ohtani, Snell, Yoshi.
I think Glasnow for game 3 and Ohtani for game 4 is the most logical.
It’s the other way around. Glasnow game 3 cuz he’ll be on his normal rest for game 7 with Shohei available for 1-2 innings to close out game 7 if needed since it’s the last game of the series. They set up the NLCS rotation the way they did exactly for this reason.
I think it’s better this way because at least Glasnow would be on regular rest, whereas if you flip them, they would both be on short rest for g7.
Exactly!
They either let Sho go and get 2-3 innings in a start for game 7 or let Glas fly, use top end relievers and have Sho come in late like 8th/9th so they don’t take him out the lineup
Personally I wish Snell didn’t get tired and could pitch every game.
How much would a pitcher that could pitch every game like Snell be worth?
$300 million? PER YEAR?
If you could get 2025 postseason Snell (7 IP/G, 0.86 ERA) for every game, $300 million/year would be fair, yeah.
Deferred until 2055 obviously
i’ve been theorycrafting something like that. even in the olden days where no one could throw over 80 mph, nobody except old hoss radbourn would throw more than like 50% of their team’s games and radbourn was rewarded with being unable to lift his arm over his head.
but what if, instead of going the distance, you only faced the order once? that’s it, just nine batters faced, no matter what. every single game. like a weird version of the opener gimmick the rays tried to make happen a few years ago. but instead of a relievee, it’s a starter with lots of stamina.
every single game, he goes out there and faces nine batters at best.
he might not always be good. he’ll have his meltdowns, he’ll get knocked around, he’ll be desperate for those off days. he wouldn’t ever be eligible to get a win either since it’s a 5-inning minimum for starters.
but still, that would be pretty cool to have on your roster, no?
If you have OOTP you could absolutely test this. If you don’t i can test it for you.
OOTP is balanced around typical SP and RP usage, so you could try something like it but I doubt it’d reflect real life very much.
When they added openers you could definitely do some shenanigans, I think like you said the usage/fatigue would trump any stamina rating.
I’ve always thought this was where pitching is headed. Tradition just pushes starters to go deeper in games.
The opener is very much not a gimmick and is still widely used today. The Brewers did it in the NLCS this year.
After missing out on NLCS MVP. Hope he absolutely torches em game 1!
For this series probably not. Jays have knocked Snell & Glasnow around before during their Rays days.
Yamamoto might give them a headache though.
And both of them had 18 K’s combined against the Jays this season. It’s meaningless. Anything can happen in the postseason.
Snell has come a long way since then tbf. This year against the Jays he looked fine.
How quickly you guys get up his pitch count in order to bully our bullpen is probably more pivotal. Since you guys don’t chase anything, Snell could easily be out in 4 or 5 innings.
vs 22 year old kid who started the season in the Florida State League and a 40 year old Max Scherzer.
This is going to be a World Series for the ages.
Brendon Little is going to pitch in the World Series
Don’t even joke about that!
Sorry. Don’t want to make Little of it.
The only reason Little should pitch is if the Jays are up by like 8 runs. So if Little is pitching things should be good.
Well the other option is like the 18th inning…
Our options against lefties are slim. He will pitch
Ohtani will launch a ball to parts of the atmosphere usually only seen by astronauts
Maybe one of them has a shot at catching the ball
Based on Ohtani’s splits you might see him come in to face him + freeman
Max Scherzer vs Clayton Kershaw game 4 who say no?
So it began, so it should end.
Incoming Scherzer perfect game
Dude show some damn confidence
I don’t think he’s showing a lack of confidence. Our team doesn’t give a shit who you are or who you have. We bat Nathan fucking Lukes in the 2-hole. Our starters are ancient or infants. Isiah Kiner Falefa was our starting second baseman and never even got pinch hit for in the ALCS.
None of this should work on paper but we are more than the sum of our parts. It doesn’t matter how good your individual pieces are; if we can play our game, we will win this series. The Dodgers will try to get us out of our game, but if they can’t, it won’t matter what their stats were vs other teams. We don’t play the same game those other teams played.
Yeah, let’s conveniently fail to mention that the infant is pitching his heart out and is a stone cold killer. And the ancient is a living legend first ballot hall of famer. Let’s mention the 2 hole hitter but conveniently not bring up the hitter before and after him.
The jays are good. Deal with it. Or just cry more. No one really cares.
You seem easily confused
Dodgers are so bad they need to have their DH pitch for them. They have an outfield reject as their SS. Their starting pitchers are made of glass and missed most of the regular season. Their catcher has a fractured hand. Their closer has an era over 4 and had to be sent down to the minors. Their previous closer and starting LF were so ass they were left off the playoff roster. The rest of their bullpen blows leads like no tomorrow. Their best pitcher is a playoff choker. And on and on and on.
They have no talent. They just happen to win games with pure heart and grit. This style of narrative sound familiar to you?
Do you not see my flair…..?
I didn’t say anything negative? It’s just the facts
What’s with the Debbie Downer schtick? Isn’t the kid pitching like a motherfuckin monster right now? And well nothing needs to be said about Max. Can’t we just enjoy the sport as the entertainment it’s intended. It’s more fun than shitting on your own team.
The fact that you’d rather they get lit up so that you can brag to internet randos how right you were is insufferable.
There’s no Debbie Downer schtick.
It’s a cool story. You’re the one who took what I said in negative context.
Good luck Jays
They’ve heard it before
Exactly what was expected
I would guess Ohtani game 3 and Glasnow game 4, that way they could use Glasnow in relief in game 1 and have him on full rest for 4, while Ohtani in 3 makes his arm available for a potential game 7.
And also makes Glasnow available as reliever in game 7.
Dodgers in game 7 would be such a terrifying pitching matchup since it could go something like Ohtani starting, Glasnow as a middle reliever, Snell as the setup, and Roki as the closer
My dream is to have kershaw close out the world Series if we’re like up by 6 runs
With springer as his last strikeout
Ohtani Game 3 also means he gets to pitch at home.
I thought it was gonna be bobby miller and lance lynn to start G1 and G2 with pepiot waiting along for G3 /s
No, G3 is a bullpen game
Kiké will be starting G3 ahead of Shohei and Glassnow
kike?? most obvious 9 IP, 0 H, 0 ER for sure /s
It’s wild that this was only 2 years ago… that was a rough series to watch
Bobby really fumbled the staart of his career so badly.
I remember him being such an ass and cocky pos after that 2023 season.
To be fair, he had the start of his career after that to begin the next season. But that was the only one he had left in him.
The D backs really made merch off of that NLDS 💀 can’t say I haven’t reveled in their downfall.
The Blue Jays are just the team to knock around Snell. If they can take game 1 from a rusty Dodgers that’s huge
I can tell you one thing, the Jays are likely not going to allow a dodgers starter to pitch into the 8th. They foul off pitches, work counts, poke more balls for hits. The Jay’s game plan is going to be keep the game close and get to their bullpen by the 7th. And I think they may succeed in that in this series.
It’s gonna be really fun to see the Jays hot offense go up against the dodgers rotation. Can’t wait.
Said the exact same thing about the Brewers. You can game plan all you want but you have to actually execute. Like Mike Tyson said, you can plan all you want until you get punched in the mouth. Much different executing against the Dodgers staff than against the Mariners staff.
The brewers were supposed to do that too but you wiped the floors with them
You have a much better and a much hotter lineup. And this is all without your 3rd best hitter? In Bichette, who will return. I can assure you you will not be as lifeless. Vlad Jr. Alone will be more productive than the Brewers lineup.
Honestly if we just walk vlad every single time unless the bases are loaded I wouldn’t even be upset
Bo Bichette I believe led the league in BA with runners on base this year, Bo will probably be in the 4 hole.. it won’t be easy to just keep walking Vladdy with Bo behind him
Walk em both then, fuck it
Then you’ll have to deal with noted power threat Andres Gimenez!
Why do I get the feeling this series is going to be a case of last pitcher standing? Dodgers have more pop but Toronto can’t not put the ball in play. If the status quo holds, this goes at least six.
Bring it.
In Bichette, who will return.
I honestly think this is a bad idea for the Jays, everyone else in the line up has been through these dog fights and Bo is pretty much gonna have rehab games against the Dodgers in the world series while not 100% healthy.
They also will have to DH him, having to put the cheater on the field and sacrificing a good defender. Might be worth if Bichette is lights out, hopefully it bites them in the ass.
He’s gonna either be at short or 2nd, if Bo can play and run he will be fielding, Springer has said all year he feels much more comfortable DHing and with his clear knee injury Jays probably won’t let him field
You don’t know any of this. The brewers were the best team of the season, everybody was saying the same things. You were probably the one saying the same things with the brewers since you seem to like to make these proclamations.
Again, nobody knows shit. Stop making these dumb statements in a sport as volatile as baseball. Playoff baseball at that.
No, I know this for a fact. Blue Jays offense is going to be much tougher. Again, this is a fact. lol. Just being annoying, but the chance that the Dodgers staff can make a team look as lifeless as they did the Brewers is unfathomably low. I don’t think the dodgers starters are going to pitch 17 of the first 18 innings of the series this time around. And the Blue Jays just genuinely are a much better offensive team, have been all year.
It’ll be fun to see the dodgers pitching try and silence their red hot asses.
Look, I get where you’re coming from. And I tend to agree with you, I don’t think it’s gonna be that easy either.
But the Brewers, not the Jays, were first in a lot of small ball offensive stats, like hits, walks, patience, less Ks etc. The Jays are right behind them to be fair, and they have more star power. So on paper they are better. But I feel this confidence of yours comes only with the hindsight of how these teams have looked in the playoffs.
The Brewers were supposed to have the best plate discipline in baseball lol
People arent really mentioning the blue jays pitching against the dodgers lineup.
This is the one aspect of this WS that I’m worried about, and most of that fear is named Freddie Freeman
Same. And I can’t even hate the guy which makes it worse! He’s an awesome human!
I expect Shohei, Freddie, and Muncy to have a big WS now that they don’t have to face all those really tough lefties the Phillies and Brewers were throwing at them. Not to mention Teo likes hitting at Rogers also. Even if the Dodgers’ starters aren’t as sharp as they were against the Brewers and Phillies, the Blue Jays will still have to somehow out slug the Dodgers in order to win this series.
I feel like Jays pitching is perfect for dudes like Muncy, Kike, Edman and Pages to do well against.
Why?
Jays really should be familiar with both Snell and Glasnow.
snell hasn’t been in the AL east for 5 years now.
Didn’t have him figured out still in his last start against them this season.
Sure wish we had someone like Snell pitching for us, it’s not like he was willing to give us a discount and wanted to play here or anything. Oh wait
Dude was begging to come home to Seattle in the 23 offseason
I hadn’t heard about this. Is there a reason Seattle passed on him?
Idk probably just cheap owners lol
this is quite unfair, but life is unfair…
game 1: snell
game 2: yamamoto
off day
game 3: glasnow
game 4: ohtani
game 5: snell (4 day rest, normal)
game 6: yamamoto (5 day rest, normal)
game 7: glasnow (4 day rest, normal)
They’re also all going to be exceptionally well rested heading into this series. Snell last pitched 8 days ago.
There are 3 off days between the end of the CS and the WS, everyone is going to be well rested.
If anything the Dodgers might have too much rest
Snell had the same amount of rest before Game 1 against Cincinnati and he went on to pitch 7 shutout innings in that game, just FYI.
Just an FYI
Being well rested isn’t in their favour though
Where’s Clayton Kershaw?
bullpen
We should make Gausman hit to establish dominance.
I want to see A Max Scherzer vs Clayton Kershaw game. Who says no?
The dodgers lol
MLB should enforce this
I really hope the Toronto batters can stay hot against the Dodgers insane pitching, gonna be a real tough task
I really hope not!
I don’t know, it might be fun to try
Not sure if many know this, but the Jays have made a habit of f*cking up aces this year.
Bring it, Dodgers.
I kind love the “Dodgers are gonna sweep with their eyes closed” narrative. Because either we pull out an upset or we loose and there was no expectation. The Dodgers have all the pressure.
I don’t think anyone really thinks “dodgers are gonna sweep with their eyes closed”. The MLB on FOX guys said its “Goliath vs Goliath”.
It seems to be The narrative of Internet commenters more than analysts.
“Imagine a pitcher not hitting a WS donger…” - Joe Blanton probably.
Dude has the easiest job in the world
Admiral Yamamoto may be planning an attack but this time, uh, Canada is going to be prepared.
Will Kershaw get to pitch an inning as a reliever this World Series?
I think it’d require a perfect setup like a huge lead and he gets to throw the final inning
In a game we’re losing/a planned reset day for the good pen maybe, he should be in the brent honeywell role
Dodgers should give their bullpen a chance… i believe in them! 🤣
I still don’t understand why the Snell was available to the Dodgers. He signed with the Giants initially, hand out a better contract with no opt outs and the Giants probably make the playoffs and the Dodgers are more beatable. Snell has looked better than even Tarik Skubal this playoffs.
Well for one we gave him a massive contract, especially for a dude over 30 and with a little bit of an injury history. Giants weren’t willing to commit. And Snell wanted to be a Dodger.
If the best he could do after winning a Cy Young is a 2 year deal, that’s on the rest of the MLB. Now the Dodgers are the ones who get to deploy him at the top of their rotation. The Giants were 2 or 3 wins from making the playoffs, Snell could’ve made up that difference.
our pitching is unfair holy shit
Looks like meat’s back on the menu boys.
