[NBC Sports Boston] Jaylen Brown opens up about ‘underappreciated’ label, room for growth and more
Finals MVP.
My hot take this year is he’ll be in the mix for MVP. I don’t think he’ll win it unless our record is way better than expected, but I think he’ll be in the top 5 in voting - basically taking our boy JT’s place this year.
Top 5 in voting is a huge stretch. He’s never had MVP votes in his career before. I think 10th in MVP if he’s lucky this season.
I think his ceiling this year is 2nd team all nba if he peaks and this team ends up 4 seed. But more likely he gets a 3rd team selection
He’s never played a season without Tatum and being the #1 option before, so I feel like it’ll be eye-opening for the media and the rest of the league.
Could be another IT4 situation, you never know
We were the #1 seed in the East that year and IT averaged 29 ppg and 6 assists on 63% TS . And even then he was 2nd team all nba and 5th in MVP voting
I see us around 6-9th seed . Barely above .500. I see Jb averaging around 27/7/5 on average efficiency at best. He will definitely be an all star and maybe sneak in 3rd team all nba
Fair assessment; I’ve never really been a stats person, I put too much weight on the intangibles like heart and grit. It’s a big reason I love this team, we consistently seek out those types of players. You’re probably right about our standings but I just feel like JB is really going to level up again like he always has and defy a lot of people’s expectations.
IT was in the mix, but his mediocre defense hurt his case. I don’t see that happening with JB. I could definitely see Brown matching IT’s scoring numbers this year with a few more shots per game.
I don’t think our record will be great, but we might surprise people. Probably somewhere between 5-8, so I don’t think Brown will be a top contender for MVP, but let’s say we somehow end up as the 1 or 2 seed, that’s when the convo would start. JB also has his FMVP which would help with the narrative.
JB has been 2nd team before with numbers that are worse than what he’ll put up this year.
Maybe some fringe votes. The media doesn’t like my guy.
Right now they underrate him, but he’s going to have the greenest of lights, a chip on his shoulder and wants to prove himself. He’ll be top 10 in scoring and with all the usage going to him that would’ve gone to Tatum, he should have a better scoring average than JT who was #5 (and JT would also put up insane numbers if their situations were reversed).
All of that is cool but they don’t like him.
From Jaylen Brown in an interview with NBC Sports Boston’s Michael Holley:
“In order to be a winner, you’ve got to sacrifice to be a part of the team, and nothing’s wrong with that. People make this seem like it’s a complaint or I’m complaining. No, I’ll make that decision every time over. But that doesn’t mean you’re not capable of doing more. That doesn’t mean you’re not capable of displaying a higher level of talent.
“I want the young people to know that there’s nothing wrong with contributing to a team, contributing to a goal that’s bigger than you. It doesn’t always have to be about you. There’s a lot of honor in that. I think that people are very self-obsessed. So, it’s like it has to be about them. They wanna be able to show the world who they are and what they can do.
“For me, it’s always been about the team. I’ve always been the team guy, I never had a problem, you know what I mean? Never had an issue with anything when it comes to contributing and winning a goal.”

“It doesn’t always have to be about you. There’s a lot of honor in that” is why I love this team so much. No one is bigger alone than we are all together, on and off the court
Do we honestly think that the team would approach this season the same if it was Jaylen and not Tatum out for the entire season? We don’t gotta lie to maintain our culture if we do then it wasn’t that strong to begin with.
we are so lucky man
Yeah. We have it good.
He’s right. And also proof that you can still get paid and be a team player. JB is the man
Idk how people can hate this guy
All-NBA 1st Team incoming!!!
I know that misses the point of what he’s saying, but I do hope he gets more recognition or appreciation or CONSIDERation
Hey it’s the JB show and I’m happy to watch for a while.
I love watching Jaylen’s growth as a leader. He always had it in him but seems like he’s found his voice and more open to using it
Is this a season where he can dribble, or no? Still haven’t learned the pattern, but yeah, let’s see if he worked on that…again.
I don’t think he can but so far only Pritchard and white can dribble so let’s see what happens
This season will go a long way towards proving whether Brown has been underrated or overrated.
Not really. He proved he is properly rated when he won finals MVP.
What happens this year is called player development.
Definitely not. that award shouldn’t have gone to him.
He’s done developing. Either he proves the cultists right that he’s actually elite or he proves everyone else right that he’s overpaid and mid.
