In Stevens mind, he must have known he was a top tier X and O coach, and admitted to himself even with all the talent in the world he couldnt get a ring because he couldn’t motivate the players enough and he lost his voice in the locker room.

This explains why he leans into the anti-stevens style coach so hard, and it immediately got him a Ring and proved him right.

So this makes perfect sense.

I think Boston and fans like to delude themselves into thinking the Celtics are any different than any other organization. They aren’t.

I’m the biggest Celtics fan, but the numbers are what they are.

Brad got promoted because Danny got fired, which is what happened, regardless of how they spun it. And he also got promoted because the coaching wasn’t reaching guys anymore, and it just so happened he’s a really bright guy who got put in a role and thrived. Credit to the Celtics for recognizing that ability.

The reality is, at the end of this deal, he’d be on year 11 of coaching the Celtics. There are only two guys in the league with more than 10 years with their current team. It’s exceptionally rare.

I don’t think Joe is a bad coach, but the numbers are what they are

Not just that, but “Mazzulla Ball” also produced a top 2 offense the last 2 seasons and 60+ win seasons.

People don’t watch other teams and how much they struggle. The Pacers turned it over 17 times a game in the finals. The Nuggets were a 1 man show where Murray stinks it up half the time. The Lakers were just as ugly shooting from 3. Minnesota was just Ant iso for 75% of the season. Don’t get me started on teams like Orlando and Houston. They’d complain about every other team’s offense too if you’re going to be reductive like this.

I’d love to see how much “Mazzulla Ball” was criticized during the summer of 2024. My guess is not a lot.

Terms were not formally announced on Mazzulla’s new pact…but there is a belief in coaching circles the new deal is a six-year pact, along the lines of the six-year pact that current Celtics POBO Brad Stevens initially signed to be Boston’s coach when he left the college game in July 2013.
