This would carry some weight if Kerr held Draymond accountable for his assaults one time in his career.

I am typically a Kerr supporter, but my main problem with what he’s saying here is that before the video leaked, Shams reported on the punch, which was already an indication that this was bigger than most typical locker room fights that occur.

In addition, since we did not have much info on the punch yet, Warriors beat reporters were somewhat joking about it when they asked Curry and Looney about it. However they did not smile along - they took it way more seriously than us in the outside world did and said that Draymond had some apologizing to do. In the days between Shams’ ‘tweet and the video leak Warriors fans and reporters were like ‘Whoa, Steph seems pretty pissed. This punch must have been serious’.

Then TMZ leaked the video and it became clear why the team was taking it so seriously. Green punching Poole was already worse than the typical locker room incident, and while the video certainly made it much worse I think there’s some deflection going on in blaming the video leak more than what actually happened.

People are being smarmy in the comments but he’s def right. Once it hits the net, it’s impossible to manage vs dealing with it amongst the 25-30 people on the court

I wonder if there’s a bit of a generational gap going on here too. It used to be pretty common for guys to get in fights in the schoolyard and playground growing up, but then the whole zero tolerance thing happened and fighting was really cracked down on and now younger generations seem to view fighting very differently.

If you have some stuff that is always brought up over and over it’s going to obviously have way more problems than if it’s a heat of the moment fight. Draymond and Steve Kerr being the ones to repeatedly bring that whole fiasco up once or twice a year since it’s happened is just so bizarre to me for the very fact that every time either one of them does, they reiterate how hellish of a period it was for the team lol. Up until that point I would generally give Kerr the benefit of the doubt. I always liked him as a player, I would often say that although there was a lot of things I didn’t like about them, I couldn’t root against Kerr and Curry.

Even failing to call out Draymond’s behaviour on court - I don’t like it but as a coach I can understand why you might want to address that stuff behind closed doors rather than admit publicly that Dray deserved any techs/suspensions.

But this? A coward punch/king hit to one of your other players, that knocked him out (i think)?:Particularly someone smaller, younger than Dray. There is no justification other than “I’m just gonna side with Steph, Dray and Klay” (which also seems to be their approach to Kuminga). This was not a fight. This wasn’t a scuffle that escalated too far. This wasn’t two guys even facing each other and arguing. This was Draymond being a fucking man child who couldn’t control his temper, and a team that has repeatedly enabled that behaviour.

And then to try and put blame on whoever leaked the video (implying it was Poole) and blaming that person? Yeah - you’ve fucked up there Steve.

Kerr still blaming the video instead of Draymond

Two things are true:

1. Dray is a major fuck up for punching Poole.

2. Kerr is absolutely correct that the video leak made everything worse.

Imagine a fight between a couple and they’re trying to repair their relationship. Does airing select clips of their fights to the entire world help repairing the relationship?

The punch being internal would have been better for Poole too. Now he instead has to reckon with that tape for all his career and keep getting asked qns about that.
