I truly believe that Luka & Kyrie had what it took to win a chip, they were right there but just needed a better team which they did get that offseason. They just unfortunately matched up with an all time Celtics team in 2024

It just makes me flat out chuckle when people try to puff the Mavs up as a fucking contender. Kyrie may well not play at all next season. And I’m old enough to remember a team that had AD/D’Lo/a star SF.

Now, add another year (and multiple more injuries) to AD. And the star SF is no longer LeBron James, but rather a rookie.

WHAT THE FUCK makes anyone think that is a serious team?!? They are a major Davis injury (not rooting for it - and don’t root for injury to any player - but it would not be the most shocking thing I’ve ever seen in sports) away from being in contention for having the worst record in the league.

Two seasons from now? They could be a bit interesting then. That’s ANOTHER season added on AD and presuming mid-30s, Year 16 Kyrie Irving bounces back fantastically from an ACL.

I know they want to save face after the Luka trade, but that’s just not a possibility. A fire sale is the franchise’s best hope, honestly. Already lucked into Flagg. They have one of the best 2018 rosters a team could desire. In addition to Flagg, they have Anthony Davis, Klay Thompson and Kyrie Irving!

Lots of time this happened to Kyrie. He really only had 3 years with Bron despite a championship. Made a conference finals with Boston then dipped after 2 years. Never had a full season with Durant and Harden on the Nets. The Mavs weren’t his fault though, to be fair lol.

Also surprising that Kyrie was not injured for most of it including the playoffs.

Yeah that’s insane. They had a legit chance to make a run at for many years to come. If Dallas could’ve just maintained their identify with the two larger lob threat, who was gonna stop them! Cooper will never sniff Luka’s talent.

Kyrie Irving has a close relationship with Nico Harrison before he came to Dallas. They cited the period where Kyrie led the team to a good record while Luka is injured to say trading Luka is justifiable. Kyrie Irving even defended Nico Harrison a bit after the trade.

Point is they aren’t gonna last anyway.
