Started the season 27–13, but in the background, longtime head coach Jerry Sloan and star point guard Deron Williams were butting heads in a way that was becoming untenable. That conflict led directly to Sloan and his lead assistant resigning, then Williams got traded at the trade deadline shortly afterwards.

When it was all said and done, the team finished 39-43 and missed the playoffs.

Raja Bell has said on a few occasions that when the Deron Williams trade was announced, he talked to Jazz GM Kevin O’Connor (not the podcaster) about it, and Kevin said “Sometimes, you get what you deserve.” 💀

2001 they tied the single season record with 116 wins, losing the last game in the regular season for the out right record. They lose to the Yankees in 5 games in the alcs a month after ⁹⁄₁₁. Then the diamondbacks beat the Yankees in my favorite World Series ever. What an amazing show those teams put on.
