I don’t think it’s likely but I could some reality where he plays in like Europe or China for a year as basically an international tour then signs a vet min with LA or Cleveland to do a proper farewell tour in the US.

Like I said, pulling this out of my ass, but Lebron is basically the only basketball player ever to be capable of doing that and it not being ridiculous. Bball was getting big because of MJ, but LeBron has the luxury of it being truly a global sport now.

Lebron starting at 18 right out of high school really makes a huge difference. It also helps contextualize Kareem’s record holding as long as it did as being indicative of how dominant he was, considering his NBA career started at 22 (NBA rules at the time did not allow a player to be draft-eligible until the year of what would be their college graduation) and ended at 41 (Lebron’s age this year) — giving Lebron a 4 year head start.

Kareem was in college for all four years at UCLA (did not play his freshman year due to college rules at the time preventing freshman from playing varsity — KAJ famously led the freshman team to a 75-60 win over the two-time defending champion varsity team), and was an all-time force in college, losing only two games in a campaign of three consecutive championships on the varsity roster. So while you can argue that playing in college allowed him to develop into as polished and dominant of a player as he was coming out of college, he likely would have been as phenomenal right out of high school as Lebron was. 

All of that said, Lebron is aging more gracefully than KAJ; but if you peel the first four years off of his illustrious career (8,439 points — bringing his total to 33,745; 4,642 below Kareem’s total), Lebron would need to average 22.1 points per game across 70 games per season (Lebron has played this number of games only twice — 71 in 2025 and 70 in 2024 — since the 2019 season) for the next three seasons to catch Kareem. 

Also the injury luck to stay on the court and not miss any long stretches or seasons for 20+ years seems highly unlikely we’ll ever see again.

currently, lebron has 42k regular season points. if an nba player comes in and hits 7 four pointers a game (easily breaking steph’s record of 5.3 threes a game), they would have to play 18 ¹⁄₂ seasons straight with all 82 games played to break lebron’s record, and that’s assuming he retires this offseason

4 point line is such a dumb idea, I don’t get why we keep hearing about it. Teams taking turns missing 3s is already a big problem for the game’s entertainment value.

I mean it isn’t 1-to-1 but let’s not act like shorter games would not at least, in theory, help with the injury issue.

82 Game 40 Minute Season:

82x48 = 3280 minutes/season | 3936-3280 = 656 minutes saved/season | 656 / 48 minute games = 13.666 games saved/season

70 Game 48 minute season

12 games saved/season

If the NBA was staunch about keeping 82 games but did want to try and reduce injuries, it would be a viable option at least at face value based on these admittedly crude numbers.

Bryce wasn’t anywhere near the top 100 at least bronny had serious prospect capital as a top 30 kid coming out of high school. It’s very likely that Bryce only plays in garbage time this season for Arizona as they build him up

Bronny was a top 30 recruit, Bryce is in the 300s. They aren’t comparable at all. 

Sure but as a University of Arizona fan and alum, Bryce is looking at very limited playing time. There’s just too much talent ahead of him. He’s definitely not starting and is looked at being a developmental project.

LeBron even understood this.

Plus, Tommy Lloyd is known as a great developmental coach.

I mean, he’ll be in the league if LeBron wants him in the league.

He has no leverage to get his son drafted by the team he’s on if it’s an open secret it’s going to be his last year.

He strong armed the Lakers because he still had years left to play. They’re not going to do it again with an even worse prospect if James is gone the next season.

you can see Bryce interviews that he’s done since he got to Arizona. He committed there knowing there was a longterm plan and that he’s not a serious prospect right now. He won’t play much at all this season

Gordie Howe is such a freak. He played 25 years in the NHL and won six MVPs. He retired due to a wrist injury to work in the front office for the Red Wings (team on which he played his entire career), got bored of not having any influence on the team, signed to a WHA (think hockey’s ABA) team a year later that had signed his two sons, won a WHA MVP and two WHA championships in 6 WHA seasons, returned to the NHL when the WHA folded and his WHA team joined the NHL, and his career finally ended with a 52 year old Howe scoring 15 goals and 26 assists on a playoff team.

Bryce is a few inches taller, and I guess that’s all it took. I don’t think anyone who actually saw both brothers play thought Bryce would end up being better.
