Bob McAdoo makes 2 threes in a row during the ‘83 Finals after going 0/1 from three the entire regular season, as Sixers fans chant goodbye. He’d never make a 3-pointer again.
Not many teams have a former MVP coming off the bench. McAdoo’s knees limited him to bench minutes with the Lakers, but he was still a high caliber player the minutes he did play backing up Kareem. Nice “rotation” player to have, the Lakers won two titles while he played for them.
how many players have won MVP and a ring, but not FMVP besides him? David Robinson the only other person I can think of
Kevin Garnett & Dave Cowens, winning championships both on stacked Celtics teams with Havlicek, JoJo white, & Paul Pierce winning the FMVPs.
Curry was on this list until 2022. If you widen the list to include people who were MVP’s and won a championship in the same year but weren’t FMVP’s that year, he’d be included as well.
he was like a KD level for the era shooter from the midrange
i remember a story from the heat i think where he came into practice and just was destroying everyone in shooting competitions
Doo!
In 1983 he was thirty-twoooo!
throw prime 70s McAdoo into the present, give him some time and training to catch up to the modern game, and he’d be absolutely bombing the threes
Add some modern knee training and PRP for those knees.
Amazing - he made 3 threes the first year the 3 point line was introduced, and not another regular season 3 ever over the course of 6 more seasons. And just those 2 makes in the video and never before or since in the playoffs.
It really is incredible to see how little the 3 point line figured into play over the first few seasons after it was introduced.
McAdoo deserves to be talked about more
That form is comical. Looks like he’s never shot a basketball before
tbf this is only the third season where the 3point line existed and it was towards the end of his career.
