Adam Silver gets ahead of Torre’s claim that he lied about not knowing of Aspiration’s existence: “I said I never heard of it— I meant in the context of the accusations here. I was certainly aware of the brand.”
Maybe you shouldn’t have said ‘I’ve frankly never heard of the company Aspiration before’
Yep. At 0:55
https://youtu.be/K2D9977FCTo?si=TBpKWScPxRGxVlIo
hahahaha he did it yeah oh my god
What a corporate stooge.
You know, we’ve had others here just recently defending Adam Silver as “oh of course he can’t say anything, it’s an on-going investigation.” Just in that last topic this past hour.
He’s saying a fucking hell of a lot, actually.
i goddamn knew it goddamit:
https://www.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/1nirgk2/comment/nekxljj
I’ve always kinda liked Adam Silver too. But why bro.
I love that the play now is just to bald face lie regardless of how many receipts call you out
Hate to bring him up, but our president proved it’s an insanely successful tactic.
What do you mean bro, 300 million Americans obviously died drug related deaths last year, how could you forget the vast majority of citizens dying in one year, it was so insane, we’re literally in the drugpocalypse, he wouldn’t lie!
My last straw was Biden transing all the illegals and giving each one $2 million dollars stolen from good white Christian households.
Dey tuk er jerbs!
Ya pretty much the whole party, apparently. like Kirk’s killer was radicalized by a leftist electrician trade school?
Can confirm. Cornered at work? Bamboozle your coworkers with the most far fetched lies and they will be so stunned they won’t even be able to counter your bullshit without sounding silly. Checkmate.
NBA and the Government are kind of the same in that there are rules in place, but there isn’t anybody around who has any vested interest in enforcing said rules
If it works for the White House, why not I guess.
I think it’s a bold face lie but seeing that it’s Adam Silver I’ll let bald face go
He’s always been a weak commissioner. While Stern was an asshole, he did bring down the hammer when things tarnished the league or players broke the rules. Like spurs vs suns in the playoffs when he suspended players for just crossing the court when a fight broke lose. Moreover malice in the palace, the gun incident with Gilbert arenas, Chris Paul veto trade, etc
I mean, Stern also circled the wagons and went public with the ref fixing investigation to make sure everyone knew what the talking points were. So…I’m not going to polish his statue. He was more interested in preserving the perception of the league than in actually preserving the league.
This. The guy got told by the FBI to keep a lid on this thing they’re looking into and he blasts it to the world so they can’t damage the league any more than “one rogue ref” already has. Slimy as hell, but you gotta admit he was lights out as a fixer.
If he was alive in 2025 Stern would have built the LA Lakers Casino.
Stern ruled with an iron fist. He also installed a dress code, raised the league age limit, and facilitated the Sonics move after Seattle refused to publicly fund an arena.
Silver has been riding on the good feels from forcing Sterling to sell the Clippers his entire time as commissioner.
Some people would say that he didn’t force anything and that Ballmer did the him and league a favor by cutting a check to Sterling for the Clippers and getting him out of the league.
Silver has done nothing but make the product worse and the hype is still going strong just because of fomo - “surely it can’t get worse than this”.
Spoiler: can
Im pretty sure he didnt suspend anyone for that first example. It was a rule that was an automatic suspension for clearing the bench set after the malice already happened if i recall correctly. Otherwise, he was definitely tougher on punishments. The Arenas suspension, its length primarily, to me feels like something silver might’ve been to diplomatic on and would not have punished as harshly.
he did bring down the hammer when things tarnished the league or players broke the rules.
He literally helped referees get away with gambling on games.
there’s like no way to misinterpret this either - he did _not_ mean “in the context” here, he meant it flat-out. period. What the fuck Silver!
Someone needs to cut these two clips back to back to show how foolish Adam Silver is. If any of the dummies on the other side of this… Ballmer, Cuban, Silver…were smart, they’d just shut their mouth until the NBA investigation is done and all the facts are out. They’re just setting themselves up to look stupid every time they make any statements.
here you go, scro
Lyin’ Adam
Shorter version without reporters
Nice. I’m just waiting for the next clip to come out with one of em starting with… “What had happened was….” Lol
Ballmer doesn’t have a choice, he knows he’s guilty. Cuban and Silver need to just cut their losses.
Cuban and Silver are also guillty
Why would you cut your losses when We Investigated Ourselves and Found No Wrongdoin when this is currently not a legal case against the nba just a few angry owners that they can’t ignore compared to the people under them?
Yeah I mean he definitely said he never heard of them and is walking it back, but frankly whether or not Adam silver had heard of aspiration before doesn’t really matter
It certainly does not make me as a fan feel like the league is being entirely truthful or will be entirely truthful with this investigation.
Silver is going to end up implicated and that’s where it gets interesting. The owners would have to force him to step down and issue their own punishment. They’re all equal shareholders so it’ll be their numbers vs Ballmers money.
I’d imagine the issue right now is less Ballmer’s money and more Silver not wanting this blight on his record. If he can sweep this under the rug it’s a foot note in NBA history, if he can’t it’s one of the biggest scandals in league history happening under his watch.
In this instance, it’s not about whether he actually knew about it or not. It’s that he said one thing “… frankly never heard of the company Aspiration before…” and then contradicted himself “… I was certainly aware of the brand…”. There can be no doubt what he meant the first time. It puts a huge question mark on his credibility on this matter.
If this was something that went to court so many people would get destroyed.
Man, I am getting so fucking sick of powerful people telling bold-faced lies to us, and then lying AGAIN about saying those things that they are ON VIDEO as saying. And so many people eat it all up!!! Like OH MY GOD what are we doing here??
“The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.”
They are really relying on a lot of stupid people not questioning the obvious.
Looks like it’s time for Adam to go
You know…like a liar.
Wtf is wrong with them
Post trump rich people realized there is no consequence to just lying about anything, even what you yourself said
People deny, lie, and deflect. And then hope another scandal comes up to distract everyone.
I get why, Silver’s got hundreds of apparent corporate stooges in every one of these threads trying to absolve the commissioner of the National Basketball Association from any responsibility or agency in the situation.
If only these clowns liked basketball 1/10th as much as they adore Nosferatu Silver.
When they ask him again (after this one) in a separate interview he will say that he misspoke the first time. Watch.
“My voice was hacked”
Adam Silver continues to be a professional jizz sock for the team owners
In his defense, it was cold in the room when he said that. He needs to go outside and sun himself to warm up first.
so he’s not incompetent. he’s complicit.
What a clown
The fact that he went out of his way to say “the company” is crazy. It’s like he went out of his way to prove he was lying and remove any plausible deniability.
“I’ve never heard of Aspiration before,” would be a more normal thing to say AND would lend itself more to this context of meaning in connection with any allegations.
He literally said “I had never heard of the company before”
Slippery little eel he is
Bald head makes him more aerodynamic and slippery
Rumor is he likes to dip it in oil
And rub it all over the body of a woman who doesn’t speak english
“Oh Georgie”
But like… “Slippery” kind of implies that he’s clever with his words.
This dude’s just fuckin’ caught red-handed bullshitting.
He should run for public office.
He isnt. And eel is basically all spine which Silver doesnt have.
You forgot to add he started the sentence off with ‘frankly…’
Yes I’ve heard of them. And don’t call me Frank Lee.
Surely, you jest
Don’t call him Shur Lee
And conveniently forgot to add “in this context”.
Silver showing his bag with these step backs and spin moves
Clang!
“I did not have sexual relations with that woman”
It depends upon what the meaning of the word “is” is.
I’m starting to think Pablo should be looking for an Adam Silver LLC.
I’ve never heard of the LA Clippers before. I meant in the context of them being accused of cap circumvention with Kawhi.
Oh, Dean Pelton!
I hate Roger Goodell for everything he is but god damn is he just a better liar and press puppet than the other commissioners. Lol
Roger Goodell is fantastic at his job*. He acts as a lightning rod for the owners and absolutely prints money for them.
*not arguing that he is a good or decent person
He’s just like Gary Bettman.
Everyone hates him and goes on about how bad he is.
But he’s a great commissioner.
For not caving to jersey ads alone he’s got my respect.
https://uni-watch.com/2023/05/18/report-nfl-wont-have-uni-ads-on-roger-goodells-watch/
He understands the brand is worth more than they could ever offer. The NFL owns a day of the week and it’s god’s day. They’re literally more powerful than god in America.
only reason they don’t own more days is literally because of anti-trust laws lol
They do have to be careful on the extra gamedays for real though. There really is a truth to the anticipation of Sunday that makes it appointment viewing, if they start adding too many midweek games it becomes everyday and monotonous
Dont most churches do service in the mornings?
Yes, because kickoff is at noon.
He also seems to really love football, which is super questionable with all the other commissioners. Like he grew up in the NFL business. It probably hurts him in some respects but fuck if that guy will die for the shield.
Manfred being the worst in that regard.
Lol one thing about Adam Silver is he will never say in a million years “that’s enough advertisements”
Much better than bettman on that front. The way they butchered nhl jerseys is such a shame especially since they have the most iconic/special jerseys of any sports imo.
Yeah agreed. Especially for a league that is fighting for attention, selling out was such a lame move. NHL thankfully has the least commercial breaks (or so it seems) but with ads on the jerseys, helmets and dynamic ads on the ice they’re more all over the broadcast than any other sport
They could’ve been the “we’re the league with the least amount of ads” league too
bettman is legit the worst commissioner of the big four sports
At least Gary didn’t call the Stanley Cup “a piece of metal” like Manfred did.
But Manfred has been willing to make changes when the product sucks. I can’t say it’s all been good but the pitch clock alone makes baseball so much better to watch
The NFL commish is basically the “throw under bus” for the safety kf the owners and Goodell is fantastic at that
“Lack of black coaches in the NFL?” Goodell awnser plz and not the owners who actually hire said coaches
That’s why he gets paid a fuck load of money to be commissioner. He’s good at taking shit for the owners and looking squeaky clean
Goodell is the king of these guys. The best man for the job. He navigated the nfl through alot of scandals and his greatest asset is he just knows when to stfu.
It definitely helps that NFL media focuses on the games way more than NBA media once the season starts
That’s because the NFL regular season actually matters
There are week one NFL games that feel more important than actual NBA playoff games lol
Can confirm, the sky fell on the Bears real quick
This year’s ratio of heightened expectations to immediate crippling depression was pretty impressive even for the Bears.
What’s crazy is at one point, he was one of the more famous dudes in the nfl and it really feels like it’s been reeled back in the last ten years to the point that his name rarely comes up.
I will always remember him suspending Brady for “more probably than not having knowledge” that the one guy was deflating footballs too far even though they trounced the colts and even bill nye said it was nonsense
Yeah I know that was peak goodell, but again that was over ten years ago lol
and even bill nye said it was nonsense
Bill Nye didn’t, actually. Nye got it wrong and when corrected by the internet he did the equivalent of sticking his fingers in his ears while yelling “I CAN’T HEAR YOU!” That was when I realized that Nye was a media personality and not actually a scientist.
Neil DeGrasse Tyson initially got it wrong and, when corrected by the internet, changed his conclusion because he’s actually a scientist.
Goodell is one of the best tanks I’ve ever seen inside and outside of an RPG. Dude actually wields that shield like a sword.
I mean, a team literally cheated their way to a championship in MLB and Manfred’s response was to call the league’s fanbase a bunch of fucking losers who care too much. Nothing happened, and it cycled out of the news cycle
I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s the end result here.
Then he said owning stocks is better than owning a team, only for someone to bring up the Braves financials and disprove that statement.
Exactly, you’d never catch Roger saying “we’re just a highlight sport” or putting down his product. Actually insane he said that.
Adam silver is a #2. Dude is not commish material.
He is a number two, but nobody’s flushing.
The other thing is the Goodell has learned to stay out of the spotlight.
Do you think Roger Goodell would ever say on a microphone that if the games are too expensive for you to watch that watching the highlights later is just as good. Or would he not do that
Lmao Silver’s walk back. There was no reason to lie or falsely claim you’ve never heard of Aspiration.
No one was accusing you Silver of any conspiracy with Ballmer to commit cap circumvention.
But with this misstatement or lie, you raise questions about whether you’re gonna just protect Ballmer, who is your boss and fellow member of the nba board’s Audit committee.
How can justice be served if the person silver is investigating is his boss
Well justice was served on Sterling and Sarver despite them being Silver’s bosses as well.
Although one can wonder whether Ballmer has extra influence due to his insane wealth and prior relationships.
Both were effectively forced to sell their teams though. how much power do the owners have over Adam silver?
Collectively, a lot.
Individually, almost none.
If 29 other owners are pissed about this then Ballmer functionally isn’t his boss anymore because the league interests at large trump anything he might want.
Yeah. Media pressure, fans, players all won’t matter at all on this.
It’s on the owners if they feel cheated. If over 50% are already doing this, we won’t see anything happen. Silver works for the owners.
The past firings or being forced to sell, was because it was bad for the NBA brand. You think sponsors are dropping out because owners possibly circumvented the cap? Sorry, not happening.
Sterling is an outlier example, given that his wife was involved in ownership, and furious after all the V Stiviano stuff came out.
Well the hope is that Silver’s 29 other bosses are annoyed with Ballmer and push to Silver to punish him.
Props to Pablo with keeping his foot on Silver’s neck and applying pressure. Huge respect Torre for coming with receipts. Clap back got Silver like a Bumbling Bob
S-Tier press and journalism
Honestly I hope he’s on Ballmers payroll
this one clip raises so many more questions
That’s not at all consistent with what he said in the press conference though. He said he had never heard of the company and that he further hadn’t heard of any “whiff” of anything related to them.
Caught in a catch-22. Copy-pasting from an earlier thread I started: This brings me to question why Adam Silver so confidently declared during yesterday’s press conference that he had no prior knowledge of Aspiration’s existence. Does this infer that NBA governers, such as Steve Ballmer and Dennis Wong, have no need to report that they have partial ownership in companies that they’ve pumped \(50m and \)1.99m respectively into? They are technically equity holders in this outside entity. It’s akin to Steve Ballmer not needing to formally disclose that he has ownership in Microsoft.
Bull fucking shit. Silver is usually smarter and slippier than this.
Stern was so much smarter than Silver.
Pretty amazing this is Sterns right hand for all those years. He’s just so damned unimpressive every time I see him,
Just goes to show stern didn’t need him
Stern probably would have already pounced on this and dropped the hammer tbh.
I’m all for the NBA doing their due process, gathering all the facts, etc…and that’s going to take time. This isn’t going to get solved in the next week or two.
But the more they talk, it sounds like they are just trying to deflect and protect Ballmer instead of acting like they are taking it seriously.
He was definitely tougher.
He casts that air, but personally I think he usually sounds like a dumbass.
He regularly says useless, mindless things like “in the context of this investigation” and typically people just nod blankly.
He’s constantly saying shit that is one big nothing burger if you actually scrutinize it
he’s a lawyer that’s basically their entire MO. if you ever read a letter from a lawyer it will have endless versions of “generally”, “typically”, “usually” etc which always give them an out
Was he sick the day they taught law in law school? The matter is under investigation, no comment.
He is a lawyer, isn’t he? Or it’s at least in his background
Bad move here
Yes he is
Adam Silver | NBA
You know I’m a lawyer and I can tell you something that’s glaring: none of this is illegal. Super messed up maybe, but there is simply nothing illegal about any of this. There is no courtroom, no charges and even this so called “investigation” is simply whatever roleplay the league wants to come up with. They could dress up clowns and give them NBA investigator badges and honestly it would still mean nothing. So silver being a licensed attorney doesn’t really mean anything at all. Maybe that’s why he slipped.
honestly was never anti-Adam Silver until now lol
billionaires protecting billionaires, of course man
Adam is not even a billionaire
But some billionaires’ favorite puppet, funk yeah
The 99% could learn a lot from this, but will we?? Nope
All the people defending him in the other thread look kind of stupid now
So many defenders it was wild. I swear people don’t think critically on these things. There’s no way Silver would not be aware of Aspiration’s links to the Clippers.
I wouldn’t read too much into it because there’s a very real chance these are just clankers. According to Cloudflare’s own statistics, 30% of internet activity is just bots now. We’re trending towards Dead Internet Theory at an alarming rate. Take everything said online with a grain of salt imo.
There’s rumors shill companies deploy bot farms to reddit using bought accounts that are deployed whenever a big PR problem happens
He said it. Now he’s denying it. Which makes me think there is some sort of reason why they are trying to kill this story.
Protect Pablo.
There’s something real 🐟 going on 👀
saw it live sry
🤔Something is REAL🐠🐟🎣🐟🐠 going on
Stupid answer. Why are all these people so dumb?
They’re not dumb, they’re smart enough to know that nothing they say here matters unless they really screw up
“When I said I’d never heard of it what I mean was that I had heard of it, why are you twisting my words like this??”
why would he be honest? his interviewer let it go instead of responding with wtf
Post truth world man nothing matters lie all you want no one’s getting fired for lies anymore
they just assume most of the people are dumb or dont care…and maybe they are right.
this is such a self own. It benefited him zero to say that he never heard of Aspiration and now he comes out looking like an idiot.
Didn’t you read the other thread? He clearly just forgot about a $300 million sponsorship deal as the NBA commissioner according to Reddit.
The hoops (pun intended) people are jumping through to justify Torre catching Ballmer and Silver in public lies is hilarious
People were trying to say “why would he know about that” as if those deals happen every day. They probably happen two or three times per year, he absolutely would look them over of have them brought to his attention at the very least
silver physically looks like a slimeball
looks like count orlok
Barnacle Boy
A “podcaster” is embarrassing the entire NBA and NBA media. Love how this is exposing so much incompetence and shilling.
So if Adam’s friend robs a bank, and he says he’s never heard of him then gets caught lying, his defense would be “I meant I never heard of him robbing a bank”?
If the NBA just sweeps this under the rug I’m probably gonna stop watching.
I’ve already abandoned the regular season and don’t buy tickets or jerseys anymore. I can’t pretend I won’t be contributing ad views next May though 🤷♂️
You just gotta take a step back and realise the NBA is rigged
This has to be the next stepping stone, right? If we’re admitting that the NBA commissioner is both aware and actively staying hands off with cap circumvention, then how can we say the NBA hasn’t taken a similar approach to rigging the draft, playoff games, load management, or any other issue that requires their oversight?
Pablo blocks Silver’s shot at the rim, Silver recovers the rebound but then fumbles it out of bounds in an unforced error for the turnover. It’s Pablo’s ball and he’s up 26 points with 4:38 remaining in the 4th Q.
Why is Pablo still even in the game? Garbage time, lets get SAS in there quick. Save Pablo for pivotal game 5.
Holy shit how can we trust Adam Silver to do this investigation correctly.
He isn’t doing the investigation. He hired a top law firm to do the investigation.
Even I remember that he specifically said “I’ve never hear of this company before…”
Dear lord. Silver - you need to step up here! I’ve always thought he was a pretty good commissioner, but if he screws this up it could be his ass on the line next.
Maybe this is all bigger than just one team.
Does anyone for a second think that this is a unique one off situation? This is likely more common than we realize.
Maybe Adam should watch some highlights of what he said
What does “getting ahead of” mean in this context? It sure seems like this is a response after Torre dropped more damning receipts.
if you check OP’s history it should remove any doubt why it was phrased that way lol
It’s incredible how the NBA commissioner apparently forgot that the NBA has had a massive image problem since Donaghy.
Every bad call, every unlikely draft lottery order, every lopsided trade has been overly scrutinized. Did you really think fans would just let this go, Mr. Silver?
lmao
Silver is such a god damn snake
They are all in cahoots
Bro gets paid to spin bs and talk sweet. And is bad at it. Meritocracy is a myth.
Feels like the fact Pablo caught the commissioner in a lie should be a massive deal.
Silver is just a sleazebag
Lord Voldemort here is altering his statement. Pray that he does not alter it further.
Boy this is turning into the NBA looking REALLY bad.
I know silver is a weird dude but how do you not hear how this sounds man? This is damn close to “sure teams, if your owner can afford it just go ahead and ignore all cap implications”
I mean truly, at this point why doesn’t a team have the incentive to sign 3 star players for the vet minimum and pay stupid money for the bench and then just happen to invest in a shitty company that pays the stars $200mil???
This is just insane at this point
You literally said you had never heard of aspiration you buffoon.
bro, what the fuck? this is so embarrassing for the league. Silver now sounds like hes a liar… telling a specific lie that just so happened to coincide with him stating publicly he would be hesitant to punish Ballmer. This is bad.
Oh that Aspiration? Yeah, I’ve heard of them. I thought you meant another Aspiration.
Pablo making the commissioner backtrack in real time.
Oh no. NOW he’s lying.
I’ve seen 2 clips from this interview and both are silver declaring he meant exact opposite of what he said when he said it lmao
This is so slimy, is world just gonna go ok aight?
I don’t even have to hear past 10 words of his response.
It was probably a misstatement on his part of saying he never heard of aspiration. But this answer is just stupid
What a loser this guy
Pablo got all these bums sweating through their underwear
wobclown.JPG
They really think we’re that stupid.
God how I wish we had Inside the NBA rn
Adam Silver obviously lying. “Frankly I’d never even heard of the company before” does not have the same meaning at all as what he suggested in this interview. Also, what purpose would there even be to say that his initial reaction to the allegations was that he had never heard of the allegations before? That means nothing. It’s like asking “what was your first impression of person X” and him answering “frankly I had never met person X before” like no shit Sherlock…
Do not give these fucking ghouls your hard earned money.
Now it seems like Silver was in on this scam too
I’ll never understand how so many successful people are absolutely dumber than a box of rocks. People really do fail upwards here lol
Where’s all the jerkoffs that were arguing with me that “it’s not Adam’s job to micromanage sponsorships for teams”?? Checkmate nerds, of course he’s heard of the brand…
Oh wow. Just blatantly lying.
Oh, that aspiration?
He never heard of it with his ears but he knows about it lol this dude is such a slimy liar
