I think it’s a little more nuanced. He does grab rebounds (⁷⁄₃₆ min) even if he’s not the best boxout guy. He gives solid effort on defense when his guy is dribbling even if he gets lost at times off ball.

It’s not the Warriors fault, they have a highly complex system geared around their singular superstar on both sides of the ball. You set up your system for Steph and Draymond. While you’re right that he’s not been a huge difference maker he’s reasonably frustrated being square pegged. For one thing he’s just not a great shooter, but he’s also not or an intuitive cutter, a clever screener or an effective help defender. Some dudes just don’t process at the same speed and struggle to read and react like their stars or even some of their supporting pieces like Iggy or Bogut.

Kwame Brown didn’t refuse to play like Jokic, he just never had the same combination of dexterity, fluid spatial reasoning and court-mapping ability.

Yeah, I don’t get the Kuminga apologists. Not defending and rebounding is a huge red flag. He just comes across as entitled and unwilling to play in a team concept, which is wild because he’s on his rookie contract with the frickin Warriors.

Oh yeah, I’m not saying Kerr is wrong, just that saying that public comments like this as JK goes into contract negotiations is likely part of the reason his camp isn’t excited about coming back to GS, or giving them any control with a team option.

Banking on 39-year-old Horford to structurally solve anything is a huge gamble. He fits the Warriors’ system like a glove and they don’t need him to do anything other than pass, screen, and camp out in the corner, but it’s a LOT to ask of him to be your only real center.

When they put him in he is selfish and his efficiency isn’t great enough to warrant him looking to get his all the time. It’s really that simple. Playing him thus far has definitely not been the answer to winning more games.

They still have him under contract and want to get something back for him since the only way is by trading him. To open up more trading deals they need him to take an offer. If he refuses the offer and takes the QO they simply won’t use him at that point and let him walk, which is the worst case scenario, but the only way to salvage this from the Warriors perspective is to sign him so you can make a proper trade.

Why are people treating this like Make-A-Wish where Kuminga is guaranteed playing time? He’s had opportunities and he’s generally blown them. Should the Cavs have been forced to continue to play Anthony Bennett because it wasn’t fair they didn’t keep giving him a chance? They only played him 13 mpg his first year as a 1st overall pick because he stunk. At the end of the day the team is what matters.

he’s absolutely not untouchable. The lack of trade so far is because of the BYC, not wanting to dump moody/Hield, not wanting to take on too much money past 2027, and Kuminga trying to control which team he goes to.

You are talking as if match up doesn’t matter and the warriors just ran rando line ups for the sake of it and regular season just isn’t playoffs. Houston were running double bigs, sometimes triple bigs with Adam Sengun, Jabari. Thats a line up you shouldn’t even be running 2 none shooters in, not to say 3. Kuminga for couple possessions still just ran into the basket, put up a bad shot or dribbled the ball off of himself, thats simply a match up problem no matter how you look at it.

Who cares? Kuminga isn’t next Lebron, Curry or Durant. He aint gonna carry anyone to championship by himself. We either with with Steph now or whenever we luck into next superstar in 30 years.

Oh yeah having empathy for a player apart from Steph and team success is a non starter. I’ve had multiple fans say quite literally f caring about him and interests all that matters is the “team”. The idea of having capacity for both as a fan is beyond most of them.

They don’t trust him not to fuck up. No one is throwing games to keep his value down–if he could help us win in the playoffs we’d let him.

The two timelines was always misguided because Kerr isn’t a good developmental coach, nor is he at all interested in being one. 

You’re glossing over a lot of reality though. Kuminga is a sieve on defense, can draw a ton of fouls but only shoot 67% from the line and can barely hit 1 out of 3 three pointers. His shooting is not good and his decision making is often worse.

They should have traded all of those picks for pieces.

Who exactly do you think Kuminga reminds you of on offense? He’s a 6’7” wing (not exactly the tallest wing guy out there these days) who isn’t a consistent jump shooter, isn’t a great free throw shooter and has questionable motor on defense. What about that screams modern NBA? Is he gonna turn into Ant or Herro or DeMar all of the sudden?

Poole was a spot shooter with real problems with consistency and mindset. He got a big contract partially due to league financial structuring and how they were able to get contracts under the cap. It was egregious he got the contract he did.

JK was always looked at as this high potential rangey wing but he never even looked close to hitting that potential. If a guy needs 40 minutes a night to “develop”, they aren’t developing. Acting like JK was some surefire thing coming out of the draft is asinine. He didn’t even go to college if we wanna talk more about him needing playing time… His management failed him entirely but it’s somehow the W’s fault lol

I’ll definitely agree with you that he’s been bad at developing prospects, but I think he’s been actually pretty good at developing role players. Pretty routinely, he’ll get great production out of 2-3 guys that nobody has ever heard of, and it’s not uncommon for established players to add a new dimension to their game with the Warriors in an amended role. The friction comes when a prospect sees themselves as different from the role Steve does (as was the case with Jordan Poole; which despite the ending, turned out great, Steve got a lot from him, he got a ring and a contract, not bad for a 28th overall pick). But there’s a way he does things - and crucially, a way STEPH does things - that makes the Warriors dev track a hallway instead of a playground. I suppose we’ll never know what it looks like when dev is priority 1 for him, really don’t think Steve has the same zest for coaching that Pop does where he’ll stay on and help build the next squad, all signs kind of point to when Steph’s done, Steve’s done.

Ahh but we brought in jimmy and that changed and when curry sits GSW has a great bench unit. Kuminga problem is never scoring. It’s his hustle his drive. Pods should in no way shape or form be out rebounding you. Guys like gui santos comes in for 10 minutes and plays those 10 minutes like his life on the line.

You can’t teach hustle. Kuminga refuses to hustle and crash the glass and do it consistently night in night out.
