I used to think that until I started watching every game of Ant’s. He is actually quite skilled, especially in his footwork, crossovers, step throughs etc. Honestly I didn’t fully realize how skilled Ant is until I watched Kyrie Irving’s breakdown of the Lakers Wolves Game 4.

At 17:13 in the video is a good example of Ant “being in the Kyrie bag”. Kyrie calls it “#1 pick stuff” they are still talking about that Ant play and his handling at 19:20 and Kyrie talks about how you need to be ambidextrous and truly study film to pull off the move Ant did.

It’s not just athleticism, his handling and footwork takes a lot of skill and film studying. He’s put people on skates without touching them - that takes skill.

Or simply the superhuman had a down year due to injuries, a team setback or something else.

For example.. I think Kawhi with a “ironman” body would have been the best player for a couple of years. But “what ifs” are only what ifs.

I don’t think Ant has anything close to the talent of what top 1 players have had in NBA history.

The type of shots you take are more important than overall stats, currys unanimous mvp year was so good because he was just chucking anything he touched, doing similar efficiency when you have KD and are waiting for good open shots is much different, so Ant taking harder shots he created himself is much more valuable imo, its similar to why Harden was so ridiculously good, he had 62+ ts% while consistently taking contested shots when his teammates didn’t create space.

Agreed. If you dig into my comments from prior to, during, and after the draft he was my №1 target and I thought he’d be a 2-way star. His defense has been even better than I had imagined and his offensive game is coming along right on track to be an elite playmaker. Now having even more confidence after winning a championship while playing through the entire playoffs injured, I think he’s poised for another big leap. I don’t know if he’ll get enough shot attempts per game to have the counting stats to get noticed by everyone but his under the hood stats will show his true contribution.

Devin Booker, Jaylen Brown, Brunson, Ant, D Mitch and Paolo. All things considered Book was originally next up but despite his versatility shown during the Olympics, being a walking bucket and not having any major flaws…his ability to impact winning lately (or lack thereof) has everyone vaulting other players over him.

Brown is often overlooked but has the opportunity to take over the Tatum-less Celtics and his numbers and popularity should increase. Already has earned a FMVP. No one is expecting a deep playoff run by the Celtics, he’s solid defensively and offensively, has shown improvement in handling the ball. He’ll have an opportunity this season to make his case.

Not sure what more to expect from Brunson, at 29 we small refinements not leaps from year to year in play. He’s a great scorer, efficient, draws contact, knows when to pass, makes big shots, and is arguably already a superstar but defensively leaves something to be desired. Is he really the best American player under 30 now?

Ant has the popularity, good defense and has grown in his offensive production and his play does seem to translate into winning but when it seems like it’s time for him to takeover in big games offensively…he sometimes seems unable to but he’s only 24 plus skill and efficiency wise, he plays well beyond his years garnering him the well deserved hype, he’s already a favorite to be the best American player in the future but competition closer to his age namely Cade and Paolo will keep progressing.

D Mitch has been a great pure scorer, consistent, and not a total liability on Defense but not great defensively either. D Mitch main issue has been lack of post-season success, but the Cavs did have the best record last year…how far apart are Brunson and Mitchell?

Paolo is the youngest at just 22, but his stats comparatively are impressive, plus when tasked he is the de facto player that takes over games for his team. Poor spacing and shot selection means he has to improve his efficiency. A large enough leap from him in efficiency would place him above some on this list, maybe all?

Im so high on both Cade and Banchero. Ant seems like the obvious answer, and I feel that they are in the time frame of their career where they can take a large leap this season, whereas I think Ant will have some improvements but not a drastic leap at this point. I think Banchero especially can get a huge increase in production just by virtue of having more good shooters around him.
