My pregnant wife and I were at a Nuggets game Linas was playing in. We were talking baby names and landed on Linus. It’s always a treat to hear his name pop up in the news.

Man I thought Linas Kleiza was going to be elite. That was real hoop back then

Man always loved Kleiza in 2K, the dude was a sniper at a very cheap contract.

When I was stationed in Italy, this Italian guy told me that Northern Italians are better than southern Italians because southern Italians have African blood and that’s why the Mafia was started there because they’re criminals.

Reminder that Europe is a continent of almost 50 countries each with their own culture and politics.

EDIT: Guys, please be serious. The US having 50 states, some of which didn’t exist even a 100 years ago, is not remotely the same as a group of countries with hundreds of languages and dialects and thousands of years of history, alliances and conflicts.

The one thing I’ve seen many Europeans talk about when the height of the George Floyd protests took place a few years ago was that they never had these issues because they don’t see color. They always say they treat everyone with respect and only call out shit behavior.

Meanwhile, you have Europeans throwing bananas at black football players, calling for preserving the white culture and ethnicity in their countries and deporting all immigrants away. It’s the same shit the US is dealing with. It’s always so funny seeing how proud Europeans are for pretending they’re some champion of diversity and inclusiveness, yet, they display some of the most racist thoughts and actions and have historically supported the white cleansing of the world (or refused to mix with the local brown indigenous people if you were Spain colonizing the Pacific).

The US actively tries to do something about it. Europeans pretend it doesn’t exist.

racism is unfortunately prevalent throughout most of human culture, both can be true and it is.

We don’t have a leg to stand on for racism right now. Comparing a few fans at a game to a government using a police force to racially profile and send brown people to concentration camps doesn’t work. 

I mean these dudes colonized the world. The US’s institutional racism is quite literally the result of British imperialism.

Im not sure why any country would think they’re more or less racist. America is racist as fuck, but so are most countries in Europe. Beforehand folks got to sort of hide on the topic because the country was much more homogenous. But with the huge spikes in immigration the truth us coming to light more.

Not generalizing all Europeans but whenever I see conversations about race on European centric subs, the conversations and perception of race feels like 10-15 years in the past. You even see it on this sub a lot too, people can’t understand the concept of unconscious biases and think racism is just being outwardly racist. Stuff like “I don’t see race” or “I hate everyone equally” (especially the romanis).

Not even getting into a conversation of which place is more racist, because look what’s happening in North America rn, but North Americans on average are a lot more socially conscious of racism than Europeans.

Anyone who follows European football should know Schroeder was speaking the truth lol. Just open up the comments on any video of the French football team.

I know this is Lithuania not Latvia but Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania basically all have the same exact culture with minor differences.

They are close but not the same. Latvia a very Calvinist protestant nation, Estonia Uralic language with Finnish being the closest, Lithuania is majority Catholic and formed with Poland once the Commonwealth. Estonia and Latvia have large ethnic Russian minorities. Lithuania doesnt. Etc. They are not the same buddy

In terms of racism the context is indeed quite similar. 50 years of absolutely no progress in terms of human rights (1940-1990) because we were closed behind the iron curtain. In my opinion, since then we in the Baltic States have made huge progress while Russia has made much less. 30 years ago black people would literally be in huge physical danger in the streets and the police would say nothing. Of course it’s not enough, as in whole Europe.

America racist as hell. But it’s very unlikely for a black player to ever have a monkey noise made towards them in a professional game. Almost unheard of at the professional or college level.

Why are you more mad at people generalizing Lithuanians than you are at Lithuanians being racist?
