The sprint experience so far
Someone said on another post that if you’re using wasd, don’t press them whilst sprinting and your character will follow your mouse for a far greater and fluid experience 🙂
Whhhhhat? 😮👀
I’d say the opposite. If you steer with mouse your turn radius is massive. Like it is fine at picking a direction, but if you want to run around a corner or turn down a narrow hallway, WASD gives you tighter control.
Huh, I found that using WASD felt like I had less control.
Yea I prefer a combo of both, it just takes some practice. You gotta remember dodge and sprint has no penalties so just spam them in between mobs.
AH thats how it was done TYVM. WASD sprint wasnt good.
So i just press dodge, hold space and never touch Keys? Til ty.
There’s an option somewhere in the settings, Game tab I think, that makes it so you don’t even have to hold Space. Only just enough for the sprint to start.
If you release WASD with that option on, the sprint stops
Oh damn, so it does, hoping that’s unintended.
Seems indended to me, otherwise you would just keep sprinting with no inputs. On mouse + kb you can either hold down walk button or space, but if you release both, you stop. So since you dont hold down mouse to walk, holding space is needed to know that you want to continue sprinting (or any of the movement directions)
Pretty sure you don’t have to hold space after you start sprinting or maybe it’s a toggle in the settings
It’s a toggle
God damn it…
even just testing it now in game i can get the same turns and shi using wasd. so works fine imo. sprint is just clunky with its stop animation if you just cancel it. or running into a wall or getting hit. anything really just slows you to a halt. tbf a lot of stuff in the game does that so its on point. its just annoying.
Sprint feels great so far. Feels OP for Sekhemas trial too hehe
it’s a HUGE improvement to movement in general. There’s no question about that. It was a brilliant inclusion by the devs, kudos to them.
But there’s definitely some unnecessary clunk that could probably be resolved without affecting the intended design.
It rewards skilled gameplay, you can escape frames with a well timed dodge roll out of the stumble, and then it’s a matter of skill of making rapid movements in hallways. Been having a blast with it.
Yea I noticed this after dying a few times (ok fine like a dozen times) being reckless with my sprint. You can pretty easily dodge roll or attack out of sprint. If you time it right you can roll through packs and keep going. It just takes a bit of practice.
They could still improve it, but I don’t want it to be to the point where you literally phase through enemy packs.
How do you dodge roll from a sprint? I’m playing mouse + kb and pressing space while sprinting does nothing
I’m using WASD but I’m pretty sure I just release and hit spacebar again at the end of a sprint. I know there’s a setting to make sprint work without having to hold down spacebar so maybe that impacts things too.
Yeah maybe, I have that setting enabled
I wish it would simply increase my movement speed instead of turning into racecar mode.
Touching any corner feels like a car crash.
Maybe they should reduce a bit the character width when running, like with dodging but not that much.
Xbow was clunky as fuck before now it’s very smooth to play almost same as bows. If we give enough feedback, maybe we will have some good QoL on sprint too.
After messing with it lastnight I’m sure this is gonna be tuned up a bit, it seems they wanted to be really careful to not make it too strong for fighting and the clunk will be dialed back once they’re satisfied that’s not a concern.
I laughed at that crackhead boss in the mines as I sprinted away from her wild swings. Surprised we could do it in boss arenas. Seems to devalue some of the bosses a fair bit
Zoom!!!
Reminds me of Wild Arms sprinting,
I hate that its tied to roll. i keep rolling fighting then get knocked down because i sprinted for .0005 seconds
The turn radius feels like I’m trying to steer a boat.
From the front, with someone rowing in the back that doesn’t understand what inversion means.
Also that little animation after coming out of sprint feels pretty clunky.
cancle it with your skills, any skill work. dash work too
I know, but that makes the animation even more pointless.
It still feels amazing though zooming through maps now
Defintely a huge qol buff. Wish it would just start with shift though like every other game known to man. It’s pretty silly seeing everyone in town roll around to rev up their sprint
Would be nice to keybind optionally. They probably tried to design it to easily be done with controller without worrying about adding more button binds.
Sprint is great. Just cast a skill or attack to end it vs normal animation to end it.
Go to options - Interface - Gameplay click Keep sprinting while moving and this doesn’t happen but without it yeah this tends to happen quite a lot lol.
Still meme is funny though but just in case others have the same issues with it lol
It annoys me that you then have to roll again just to run… run towards other side of map, quick parkour. Woops i ran into a table “PARKOUR!!” continues running..
Also they said we were faster than monsters while doing this, which was a lie, some monsters like wolves catch up to you. So disengage for a breather it’s just not a thing
They did explicitly say “almost” all monsters not every single monster from the 0.3 reveal.
Yeah, but when someone this will wipe off almost all whiteboards, and the first 3 whiteboards you come across it doesn’t wipe off of, it doesn’t spark confidence.
The first few zones and the ones I need to disengage the most on, and then backing away from wolves that is catching up onto to end up essentially kiting the wolves to the next pack, the idea of disengaging to back away from a fight has made the situation way worse.
Some monsters are slow enough that they were never a problem before sprinting. The ones that were a problem are still a problem.
Sprint feels really cluncy with WASD
With WASD you can hold space and let go of WASD, it will use the mouse instead. Much less clunky.
How are you guys messing it up so bad? It’s pretty easy to control once you understand it. If you were running in real life you wouldn’t be able to sharply turn, so it has a RP element and prevents it from being too OP. It’s fine.
yeah it’s very, very bad. like, it’s not worth the annoying effort to keep activating it after it drops everytime you bump into a corner because its so dogshit in terms of mobility. there is absolutely no reason it shouldn’t have the exact same mobility as normal movement just at a higher speed. until it has that, it’s genuinely pointless in more than 50% of the zones. if it’s not a completely wide open field, its fucking useless
My personal feelings about sprint is that’s a half implimented bandaid for a larger problem they’re refusing to adress.
I would 100% vote for 10% less speed but no stupid 1 second animation on stopping…
The flow of gameplay is dogshit!
Havent been able to log in yet, but can you genuinely sprint INTO a wall/stone/object and stun yourself?
No, but sprint got a lengthy cancel animation, and current hit detection makes “into a wall” a pretty wide term.
It’s less than when monsters hit you but yes.
It’s shockingly bad. Maybe not quite original D4 horses, but like come on now.
True true!!
When i hold space bar, my character first dodges then sprints. intended behavior?
Yes
Yes, it’s meant to work like that.
Same here
Sprint is awesome. If you run into a wall while sprinting it’s not weird that you’re stopped :)
You can cancel sprint with another sprint, after I got used to it, it became pretty easy to drift through corners.
How do you activate it?
lose weight or hold spacebar.
Crossbow users, not sure if you noticed this but if you start the sprinting animation after the roll, you will not have any delay in reloading your active skills (ie. Explosive Shot). Unlike when you reload while running, there’s a bit of a animation before the reload takes effect, but during sprint, there’s no such thing.
It’s great when there’s no mob that could insta hit you but you usually only take like 0.5~1 sec in sprinting before going back to attacking.
Not a fan of the 5 second knock down for steering my car wrong. Pretty much insta death in maps. Skill issue I guess but could be halved and still be too long
It took a bit of practice but I can sprint smoothly, except tight areas where I sprint a bit less. Kinda like how it takes some skill to sprint not auto mode. The trick is to sprint dodge and transition to sprint and dodge sprint dodge Dodge sprint
Sprinting feels very balanced I do expect it to get nerfed but I hope it’s just for the trial of sekimas
Hahahah i completely forgot about that feature until now…thank you I guess
I dont know why but it remind me riding horse in Zelda breath of the wild . Look awesome when you watch video of someone doing it , but end up awful while doing it .
Just roll immediately after and it’s not so bad
definitely doesn’t work well in tight space
Y’all have never played sion and it shows.
Just dodge roll to continue the sprint in another direction. You can be incredibly nimble like this
you can roll out of the slamed-at-the-wall micro-stun, and AFAIK just continue sprinting again.
Why overcomplicated sprint, it’sa basic feature in every game for âges
idk why they added this mechanic its so stupid why not just hit wall but keep running? Instead u hit wall sprint turns off and u get a animation its annoying.
With all the shit D4 got at launch, sprint is exactly how mount felt.
I want a separate keybind for sprint and roll, it feels so clunky having to roll than sprint. I want sprint on shift and roll on space, and for the sprint to start straight away.
If you get stuck on an obstable, you can ANIMATION CANCEL it with another dodge and that dodge can seemlessly go into a sprint again. And during that dodge, you have full movement abilities to get around that rock or tree or whatever got you stuck.
TLDR, get ready to press dodge again whenever ur character stumbles and it will animation cancel it.
Pro tip: If you’ve ever played Sion in League, treat sprint like a Sion ult and follow your cursor with it.

Sprint is awesome on controller, all the moaning is rubbish it works great
Even on M&K it feels fine. Honestly improves the pacing so much
Def agree. WASD has been great with sprint. Just finished act 2 and it made back tracking or ignoring unnecessary fights feel good.
