[Shams] The Dallas Mavericks are waiving 2023 first-round pick Olivier-Maxence Prosper via stretch provision, sources tell ESPN.
Wouldn’t surprise me if we grabbed him, we were reportedly set to draft him before the Mavericks took him before us and worked him out multiple times
We have a history of going after guys who we missed or liked on draft night. Nik Stauskas and Noah Vonleh come to mind but there were a bunch of others.
I dont think Staukas and Vonleh are great examples they were a lot older when we got em. Low-key you know whos a great example tho? Porzingis. He was going to come out a year earlier than he did and he was being mocked to us everywhere. He ended up pulling out of the draft last minute and it turned out to be a great idea because he went 4th instead of the mid to late teens.
No theyre good examples. Stauskas was 28 when we got him, Vonleh was 27.
Porzingis was 28 when we got him. So by your own system theyre the exact same situation. Porzingis was a lot better than either of them, but he was better elsewhere too.
Im only giving examples of players Boston liked in their drafts that they were able to sign later. Im not measuring how good they were in Boston or elsewhere.
If anything Porzingis is a way worse example because he was a much more established player that Boston traded for, as opposed to a fringe roster guy Boston brought in to get a closer look at.
The other thing to consider is that he’s getting waived in the context of being part of the deepest front court in the league by far. Dude was never gonna crack the rotation of Flagg, AD, Lively and Gafford. We’re a team ready to give Walsh and Tillman real minutes behind Queta and Boucher. Prosper ain’t lookin too shabby.
I’m not one to post every free agent and waived player as an option for Boston, BUT i was suspicious around the draft and had a feeling Boston was set to take OMP before Dallas did.
Immediately after OMP came off the board, Boston started frantically trading back. Like no way in hell they had all these trade backs lined up before then.
We ended up taking Jordan Walsh, a similar prospect in the 2nd round, as we continued to trade back and get draft picks.
There was a lot of smoke that they really liked this dude. Maybe he can come on as a depth piece this year and see if there’s more
I found the article from Sean Deveney but man is it a loose association that could very well have just been smoke to obfuscate other teams. Or that they said no to other team’s propositions.
For reference:
One thing that has become clear in the run-up to Thursday’s NBA draft when it comes to the Celtics: They are not sitting still. In addition to reports that the team has talked with the Wizards about a potential deal for center Kristaps Porzingis, Boston is also looking at trading into the first round to add a potential rookie contributor The Celtics are working a number of tracks for a deal, but moving guard Payton Pritchard for a pick like Houston’s is among them. Boston, according to league sources, also likes UCLA forward Jaime Jaquez. Both Prosper and Jaquez are veteran collegians, and Jaquez has actually graduated. He is 22 years old and averaged 17.2 points and 8.2 rebounds for the Bruins as a senior. He shot just 31.7% from the 3-point line, and said that was one thing he focused on in predraft workouts

Thats one article. There was another report about a late work out with Boston.
Also, im piecing things together, like the frantic trading back that happened that night, as well as picking Walsh, who projected as a similar player.
No need to play detective, I admitted im speculating.
I’m not trying to do that. Given that I read a lot of comments that stated the same thing regarding “a lot of smoke,” I figured to check because I don’t recall that being the case. So, I figured to cite a source from that point in time to give context in order to clarify.
Sam Vecene in a recent podcast said teams will interview players, even if they can’t draft them, just for these scenarios. Their second contracts, asking for them to be thrown into trades etc.
Pacers were always high on Nesmith. So when they had the chance, they got him. And he’s been a solid starter for them.
Brad said the same thing, actually.
They can talk to the guys in their draft range when those guys come into workout for Boston specifically, so they use the combine to talk to guys who are probably out of their range.
“We can rank who we want to talk to,” Stevens said of combine interviews on Monday at his season-ending press conference. “The people we know who we can’t get in to work out is how we decide who we want to talk to. Otherwise, we may never get to talk to them again.”
This was in relation to Boston interviewing Cooper Flagg at the combine. He then went on to shoot down rumours Boston was looking to trade up for Cooper.
When I lived in Dallas I watched our Maine Celtics plays against Omax and the Texas Legends. He’s a great athlete, good handle, and can get buckets, but that was also G League. How it translates to the NBA is a different story.
He’s terrible. Years away from being an NBA player on either side of the ball.
Guess he didn’t Prosper
Don’t remember him getting any run in Dallas.
Was there no room for him or was he a disappointment?
Word seems to be he’s an amazing athlete with minimal game sense
I think taking a gamble on guys like that in the draft is fine, but if after 2 years in the league that’s still the general view of a guy, then hard pass.
In general if we need them, sure, but this is a bonus lottery ticket. Bring him in and see if we can fix him.
BOTH! :D
Biggest loss in Dallas today for sure
Jordan Walsh outlasting him wasn’t on my bingo card
Why in gods Celtic-green earth is this a post here .
I explained why
Just gonna make a post next time Pj Tucker is released ?
Like I said, i explained. Not sure why you’re being this way. Its weird.
