Good news, I think.
My optimistic prediction was that there was a technical issue around identifying upgraded tabs for upgrade. My pessimistic prediction was that it was a money grab.

this doesn’t confirm that base tabs (the 4 you get by default) upgraded to premium tabs can be converted, which is what a lot of people did in the last tab sale in order to turn them into merchant tabs. hoping ggg does something about this, like at least offer refunds
I think they want to avoid people converting all their tabs, being left with basically no normal stash (yes that’s user error). That’s fine imo, they just need to be transparent from the start about it … No clue why their communication is lacking like that.
Why couldn’t they just forbid you from converting all your stashes instead? This seems like backwards ass logic.
As the other comment said, it’s probably to avoid people not having tabs at all in their stash, considering this is an irreversible change and all. I wouldn’t even be surprised if the initial 4 tabs are hardcoded in.
I always find it hilarious people calling out GGG for money grabbing. Name one game where you get to keep a decade of microtransactions on the new installment. Out of all the predetory shit that is normalised in this industry GGG really is not it lol.

I’m pretty sure I bought a bunch of duplicates with the EA gold, just want to foolproof myself, which tabs do you guys use ?
Map and Currency are the first ones to buy, in my opinion - if you haven’t already.
Then at least one Premium (to sell stuff - now with the Merchant tabs, you might want one of those as well). Maybe even a Quad - but that’s entirely up to you.
Socketable and Gem Tabs might be a good purchase for PoE2 as well.
Anything else is just added QoL on top of everything.

Forgot the Currency Tab - if you’re playing without one; you’re going to fill your other tabs real quick, as currency adds up real quick (and tends to stack fairly low, outside of the Currency Tab).

Nah this is a good feature. You can setup your tabs once in standard and then they will be already setup and ready every new league start.

Wait, hang on. There are people getting upset that they can’t convert the four free default tabs that come with the game, but why would they let you do that? Set aside the issue of them making money off tab sales for a moment. If they let people convert the default four tabs, there would absolutely be people who would convert all four and find themselves without a stash at all. Not letting people do that is good game design.
Not just the default tabs, but any regular tabs you purchased and then upgraded at a later time.
I have 46 premium tabs and only 4 are available to be migrated.

No, no, he’s saying that even after they “fix” this you won’t be able to convert the main four, as this will just allow to convert the extra normal tabs you purchased and upgraded to premium. Not the base 4, even if upgraded. I’ve seen some people upset about that and I’m with Loreweaver it’s the logical decision.

They could have sold the game rather than building to make it completely free, and you would be absolutely right per their intentions.
But free has to have a price somewhere when entertainment is on the line.
They could have stated this before the release, everyone was in on that the default upgraded stab could be upgraded to Merchant due to their wording not stating anywhere it’s Extra Stash Tab only.

this has nothing to do with their business model, they never said anything about not being able to convert the default tabs upgraded to premium to merchant tabs, only adding it after 0.3 release is scummy

No one is complaining about paying to support the game. People felt slighted when there was zero mention of the tab restriction. People paid money to upgrade their tabs in advance to prepare for the conversion only for the news to come out on launch day that they couldn’t. Its just a really scummy move and if it was a techincal difficulty on their end, they should have made it clear prior to launch day.
