Sprint cancels when you hit a rock, wall, or something instead of skirting it and moving on
Please fix
the way you move around while sprinting makes you feel you are driving a boat. this is the boat league confirmed lmao
You’re not far off. This is the beta test for Boat League.
We tested Pause for Mercenary league. Now we’re testing boat driving and asynchronous trade for Boat league. Gotta test these things out on the PTR before putting them in the main game.
Still patching atm but this sounds awful, I was hoping it would feel like the surge-sprint in Elden Nightreign
And you are driving none other than the Ever Given.
I am a leaf on the wind, watch how i soar
Stop it you’re not a leaf you’re a god damn freighter!
its not that bad, it takes some time to get used to
Probably ment to be this way, but its super annoying and shouldnt be a thing
Looks like a bug to me. The same thing happened to the horse in d4 when it was getting stuck on every pebble until they rewrote the whole horse backend
Was there just the one cheek until the whole backend was added?
No cheeks, just hole :(
I was told Path of Exile has a lot of depth
It’s 100% meant to be this way, there’s even a little stumble animation when you hit something.
Honestly PoE has always kind of been like this
Shield Charge in PoE1 gets stuck on every little rock and out cropping rather than sliding around it.
It is a bit annoying. Workaround for now is use a skill and roll out of it immediately to change directions. Faster than the “hit a wall” animation anyways.
You can just dodge without a skill to change directions.
Yeah, the sprint > dodge > spring is fun. I also love that the sprint speed goes higher as you get better boots.
That only works if you don’t have the “continue sprinting without holding” option. If you turn that on, the only way is to stop inputting WASD, or to use a skill.
Gives me D4 horse vibes when it was first launched.
It’s waaaaay better than D4 horse, because you can dodge-roll to change directions at any point, and use a skill or attack to stop running. D4 horse had the turning radius of a school bus, and this actually feels like running does in real life, speaking as someone that used to run 5ks for a few years. It fits the theme and feel of POE2 pretty damn well
You can change direction and press a button to stop the horse running.
Dodge roll still has animation and it feels shit having to dodge roll to change direction. D4 horse is shit when it collides with obstacles but so does Sprinting. You don’t get knocked out to death using horse.
Waaay better is a lie. At best it’s on par, but honestly it’s not better than horse. Not yet.
did it get any better ? didnt play since season 3
Yeah they fixed it
GGG can you stop making everything as clunky as possible?
Like holy fuck come the fuck on
Yup. Love PoE1 (have 10k hours) and starting to not hate PoE2 but it feels like they always try super hard to give as little as possible every step of the way. Especially in PoE2. Lately PoE1 has been very “fun patch oriented.”
I get why they don’t compromise on some things. But at the end of the day, the games gotta be fun to play. Its a game after all.
I’m sure a lot of these quirks will get sorted over time. But I’d love for them to relax a bit on the tedium and double down less on their bad ideas.
Even with all the clunk, it’s still in the top 3 best arpgs of all time. Imagine how good it will be in a few years lol
That’s actually their superpower
It’s so bad because sprint already has a major downside of falling over if you get hit. Also the long animation for wanting to stop.
It did not need to handle like shit on top of all those downsides.
Once you get used to it, ie dodge rolling for direction change, it is pretty good
Yeah, I got used to needing to animation cancel with other actions.
Would not say “it’s pretty good” though. It still feels half-baked.
They’re trying waaaaaay too hard to not make poe2 just poe1 but fresh. Like they want it to be a souls game but it’s not working
Unsure if this is intended or not but it’s genuinely so annoying. Especially when you factor in so many of the areas in this game have the same color codes and you just can’t see some objects, well at least I can’t.
What I don’t understand is why all of a sudden it makes your movement so clunky. So we just don’t get to sprint in tight spaces?
The first dungeon is genuinely impossible to navigate while sprinting. So to answer your question, no we cannot.
You can see from miles away which maps will be the most avoided by players…
Poe2 has dungeons?
Your exiles falling like in a goofy cartoon character cause he’s running too “fast” (average non qs speed in poe1) into a wall is pretty funny ngl.
Need a “disable sprint” option also so I don’t have to use a macro
It’s honestly more of a bother half the time atm. Turns like a semi-trailer, stun on rocks, doesn’t cancel from skills on CD…
… just dont hold the roll button? Lmao
Not sure why you have to roll first either? Doesn’t even make sense thematically. Unless you can sprint without rolling somehow?
It’s probably something to do with limited buttons on controllers.
And I don’t mind fewer keybinds on PC as well tbh
considering how many POE movement skills also get stuck on walls and random tiny bits of crap I assume it’s intended.
I find the movement skills that traverse pixel by pixel unusable because they get stuck on so much crap; if I can’t use one that teleports or skips over everything walking ends up being faster and less infuriating. Apparently sprinting is also an unusable troll.
Poe1 whirling blades is the best of both worlds. It’s like shield charge, but doesn’t get stuck.
yea GGG overthought the Sprint mechanic. It should really just be increased moved speed w/ the stun if you get hit.
Instead, it almost feels like a different mechanic, you have a slower turn radius and running into objects cancels it …
Thats just a permanent quicksilver flask with a bullshit stun attached to it.
its a feature not a bug
I believe they’ve said it only cancels if you get hit by an enemy
they didn’t say “only”, they just left out that part I believe
They said you get heavy stunned when hit by an enemy. Nothing about canceling sprint.
Trees and rocks are your enemy. The Doodad revolt!!
Controls feel like you are ice skating too, it’s not really the best
I found the controls playing with WASD and sprint were super awkward and I just switched to normal mouse for movement and it’s way better - you have so much more dexterity to move where you want when sprinting plus easier to press the shooting skills you want - not having to juggle 5 buttons for moving
You can sprint with mouse movement as well with WASD but you have to let go of those buttons while sprinting to do it.
AND it does much better at avoiding corners and whatnot. It still feels like they made it unnecessarily clunky, but it’s miles better if you just don’t use WASD for the sprinting part.
I know reddit will hate me for this take but I actually enjoy sprinting around. It’s kind of like a minigame or like sions ult in league.
It took me a bit to get used to it but once I did I like it. Just press and hold spacebar then don’t touch your wasd keys at all. You use the mouse to move around once you start sprinting.
I like it too and think that if you could turn easily while sprinting you could avoid almost anything really easily which is kind of dumb
Its already super easy to ignore most packs with Sprint unless it’s a large group in tight corridors.
You can sprint into a dodge roll past or even through the pack, and go right back into sprinting with no interruption.
The turning radius is also not a big deal except, again, in tight corridors.
I completely agree I think sprint feels great to use and is perfect the way it is for the game - maybe even too good? but maybe just the right amount of too good that feels just right. right. just.. right? Tokyo drift through mobs and skip a ton of stuff in exchange for predicting the threats and layout correctly; on the flipside make 1 error and be greatly set back, dope concept. Rushing recklessly fast comes with it’s risks. but idk what it is but it feels awfully satisfying to do like a good slip-through mobs and terrain.
The sprint actually feels like a sprint rather than a op traversal tool, the same way the roll feels like an actual roll and not like a cheap robotic phase-through that you hold the button in hoyo games and spam on cooldown.
Controller it feels fine once you get used to it. Seems intended to make it not completely broken. If you have to stop to fight enemies because of heavy stun, hard to turn controls, and walls stopping you, that seems like the goal. GGG didn’t want you just avoiding all enemies, that’s why it took so long to implement.
Ditto, it feels so natural, especially the parkour-style roll away if you do hit a wall or want to change directions. I think it’s in a great spot.
I also appreciate (afterwards, definitely not in the moment) watching the enemies gang up on me to punish my mistakes. That moment of absolute dread as the anxiety is building up is genuinely hilarious as I realize the consequences of my actions
I like how weighty it feels
Just cancel would be 100x better than it is now. It currently plays some kind of stagger animation… It’s slower than just walking in anything but the most open areas.
Sprint is definitely mega clunky. I can’t run for more than 3sec because i constantly bump into shit.
You gotta learn to walk before you run…
Bracing for downvotes.
If you’re WASD, sprint using the mouse (let go of all the WASD keys and your character heads towards the cursor.) It’s a million times better.
Oh, cool, thanks.
And you can barely turn. Meaning you can almost not even turn around. But hey, it’s realistic 😄
You can change direction by using roll
So if I’m sprinting forward and roll backwards, my char will turn around and sprint that way?
Yep
I have concluded that this was a lie 😅
shouldnt it? hold space bar after. im not sure either. tested. sprinting is insane if you dodgeroll to change directions on a dime.
Sprinting in wasd does not feel like I thought it would, I will just say that
It kinda feels like sprinting in GTA V. I never liked it.
It’s at least better if you let go of WASD while sprinting so you can control it with your mouse.
This really makes WASD feel like a mistake.
I actually keep trying to control my sprint with mouse movement even though I use wasd. It’s so clunky that it just feels like I’m using an ability lol
If you let go of WASD, it will follow your mouse
Wow okay, that’s great. I also learned there’s an option to toggle off the holding space, that might fix most of my issues with it
Turning is not smooth either, doesn’t feel right. should be smooth like WoW or forget about it.
Absolutely comical that this was tested with their QA teams and got the green light.
Actual console slop.
The way to character turns while sprinting, slows to a stop, the constant interrupts when you bump into something. I got hit by a single offscreen projectile and fell to the ground.
What was GGG smoking?
I was looking forward to this. How do you fuck up something so BASIC.
they have no qa, early access players are their qa that have paid to help them iron out bugs
for eg the acid flask pathfinder skill does no damage, no way they actually tested stuff
Reminds me of d4 horses for the longest time.. hopefully doesn’t stay that way very long.
Sprinting feels bad, it’s like you are running a oil tanker on rails, where slow to start, stops here and there, big gaps between actions
D4 horse
😭
More often is annoying, than something you are happy to be implemented.
• it’s nice to move fast, but very often all saved time is lost when you get stuck on na rock, or branch
• you speed, but you have inertia of speeding 40t truck.
• adding sprint seems broke dodge roll again. At least for me if I get surrounded I can’t use dodge roll to free myself.
• for some “unknow” reason I’m trying to sprint with shift.
Not having a separate keybind annoys me tbh
Yup we should have key bind just for dodge roll and dodge roll + sprint combo.
I don’t like to sprint with space, but I also don’t like to dodge with other than space.
If you’re on WASD, during sprint you will move towards cursor if not inputting WASD. Which feels better than WASD because of the turn rate limit.
that feels so awkward though, you keep pressing WASD to move and now have to let them go when you start sprint. imho they should keep W to move forward and allow for mouse steering.
ya the movement feels weird too, like steering a boat.. also would feel way more smooth if you could move/steer during the ‘leaving sprint’ animation
I take it the devs have forgotten what type of control people have while sprinting.
Possible they have never sprinted before in their life? I don’t know what kids these days are doing i guess.
One of the things that irks me the most in game design, is when they borrow mechanics and concepts from reality but so poorly that its easier to do in reality.
It just leaves me extremely frustrated and i need to quit out from the disorientation on what my character should reasonable be able to do vs me the untrained chair larva.
If i can out perform a god in a sprint while never sprinting in my life, it destroys all immersion and suspension of disbelief.
I doubt this is a bug, GGG just can’t put anything in this game that isn’t annoying to use.
they just had to make it obnoxious to use. It’s by design
Love sprint, feels great outside, bug or not this makes sprinting indoors feel useless.
tbh it makes me laugh everytime it happens, I wanna keep it in.
also, adding “momentum” makes it feel so sluggish to change direction or stop. poe 1 next patch when?
Sprint feels amazing on controller. I’ll occasionally bump into something but I can turn on a dime pretty easily.
Watching some streamers I was confused on why they seem disappointed in sprint. But now reading this comment thread it makes sense
This thing will be unsuable in Mire and pretty much every maps with tiny corridors and obstacles everywhere. I hope the favored map system has been added, sprint will be only good on sandspit
You can dodge roll/sprint immediately after running into something to change directions and cancel the animation. It’s not perfect by a means but I prefer having it to get around early game..
Love sprint, but it’s way clunkier than I thought
Why is there an animation when we stop sprinting? It isn’t there when it’s cancelled with a skill. That doesn’t need to exist
All powerful master of thaumaturgy who murders gods by the dozen each night, trips on baskets and small rocks frequently. Thank you GGG, you have properly captured the POE power fantasy.
Same thing happened to me when I ran into a rock irl today.
I like the sprint this way. Makes a little skill ceiling and learning curve for it. Just wish the ‘stun’ when you hit a wall wasn’t so long.
I just wish the game did not false register you are sprinting when you are trying to spam click space to roll out of a surround. 9 deaths, 2 deaths to instant abyss, 2 deaths to killer crabs on one of the new islands… And 5 deaths to game falsely think I am sprinting and my character decides to lay down mid combat. Whatever you do not double tap space when trying to get out of a surround: I literally cannot move, so why would it think I am sprinting?!
IT also has a stupid slow-down/root animation if you just stop sprinting, which makes no sense when you can cancel it with a skill or roll. Just needless clunk.
It’s likely meant to work like shield charge, I think shield charge lost the cool down too so probably just use that again until this is fixed or not.
Gotta love it in PoE 1 and 2 how you sometimes do a shield charge and the character moves like one inch and it’s over. Especially in 1 where you sometimes just spam it and the character goes BOOM BOOM BOOM without moving at all
Flashbacks of old cyclone
no
If you are about to hit anything or be hit, i find that dodge rolling out helps a ton, and you can get back into sprinting after the roll no problem.
there’s just also a lot of problems with collisions in this game that don’t feel good, same thing happens when we could shield dash spam
Yeah sprint shouldn’t stop until you actively do something to stop it
Yeah sprint shouldn’t stop
Until you actively do
Something to stop it

It feels even worse because there is 0 turn radius. If youre in a narrow pathway and have to turn around you have to cancel sprint so you can turn.
Feels too annoying for me to want to use often
I will say it works pretty well on a controller. I know that doesn’t help most of the people in this thread, but controller the movement is pretty smooth and it’s been a huge boon for the early game experience for me.
While we’re giving Sprint feedback, let me add how using the “Keep Sprinting While Moving” option disables you from dodge rolling out of a sprint. You have to let go of WASD in order for you to dodge roll from sprinting. Myy guess is that this is because the stopping animation counts as “not sprinting” which is needed to enable your dodge roll again, and for the animation to happen without hitting an obstacle, you have to let go of the button, which does not happen with this option turned on.
I like how it is, you have to decide when to cancel it to not get stunned, if you play too risky you can die because of it
Still amazed how that design went thru, feels terrible and clunky
We didnt learn parkour yet. Far in the future pressing dodgeroll while sprinting will do jump or wall jump if near any obstacle. We will be able to do backflips if sprinting straight into wall.
You arent meant to run into shit??? The world is dynamic, you shouldn’t be doing the same exact thing in every zone. Otherwise they would make all zones big open areas. If you havent noticed, there is some automatic obsticle avoidance if you slightly clip something, its more lenient than you make it seem.
Yes it’s annoying, it has inertia. But I also understand they don’t want this to be used in all situations or abused. I currently don’t mind you need to get used to it, then it’s fine I guess
Definitely intended. Just look at tempest flurry
Nah sprint feels incredibly good, I’m happy with where it’s at because there’s plenty of skill expression in not hitting walls and maximising uptime without getting stunned and sent to softcore
I kinda like it. Makes backtracking some kind of a game.
It’s wild to me how over the top negative people are being. It’s not perfect, but they clearly rushed to put as much as they could in to address the games faults and it’s EA. Just be reasonable with your feedback and give them time to improve it. It’s better we got this then nothing this league.
