Hello NBA community

I’m a South African who’s been hooked on basketball for the past six months, learnt the history of the sport the rules etc. I even downloaded Nba2k14 just to see how good it is and man it’s an amazing game lol. I’m looking for an NBA team to support. As a newcomer to the sport, I’d love to hear your suggestions on which team I should root for.

Edit: I’d love to hear about your favorite teams and why you support them. Maybe I’ll discover a new team to support. Thank you in advance

Depends on your sleep schedule, if you’d like to wake up & catch games I suggest a western conference team who are usually the last game but if you prefer to stay up for games then I suggest an eastern conference team

Just start watching games and following scores/news and you will probably just find yourself rooting for a certain team or two. You also want to follow a team you can actually watch, so depending on how to watch the NBA that might matter.

As a newcomer you might focus on “up and coming” teams like the Spurs or Rockets.

Real talk, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with simply following your favorite players wherever they go, or even supporting a team based off how fun their playstyle is to watch to you. For example, I fell in love with the Pacers after seeing Hali’s performance in the Finals against OKC.

I wasn’t into basketball during his time, but I definitely wish I could’ve seen him play. One of my friends said it was the most fun they ever had watching basketball because, for once, our team was actually WINNING games, haha.

I will say that one of my favorite moments last season was watching Jordan Poole make a game-winning buzzer-beater against the Nuggets on THEIR home court, so if nothing else, I have some hope for the franchise (however small).
