Jaylen Brown got clamped by a principal, so he proceeded to dunk on him the next play
Props to the principal for going out of his way to get into the poster (as much as he could lol) cuz he knew it would make the moment better lol
Principal clearly knew this whole thing was about vibes, bonding, and rewarding the kids and he pulled it off perfectly.
Jaylen did too. Whole interaction was great, kids clearly loved it.
Yep. He could have blocked the guy into the next county, but he let him get the shot off. Fair play all around. Everyone wins
I was hoping the comments would realize Jaylen was actually letting the guy make a layup too
Glad someone here pointed out the fact that u/That-Ad-4300 realized Jaylen Brown let the guy make that layup. Was hoping to see this.
Truest of props to my main Man u/Oniroman for being glad to point out the fact that u/Extreme-Transport realized that u/That-Ad-4300 noticed Jaylen Brown let the guy make the layup. One of my big hopes came to fruition.
C-C-C-C-COMBO BREAKER
Buuuuuuuuuuurns
I mean did you see how the principal dribbled and went up for the layup. Jaylen Brown probably knew there was a high probability of him blowing that layup without interference
Lol, I wasn’t quite sure after watching the principal barely be able to dribble the ball to the hoop…
We’re not seriously giving props to a top 20 nba player for letting a school principal get a layoff off are we lol. Obviously its all in good fun unless you’re seriously lacking social sense.
Kobe would’ve dunked and landed right on top of him.
Absolutely. Love how the kids mobbed him after the steal. You can tell he’s well respected and appreciated
They even respect him despite criminally loose handles. That says a lot.
Are we still talking about the principal?
It works for either I guess, lol!
Hahah yeah the head-down ploopy dribble made me chuckle
That’s the fittest principal I’ve ever seen.
Probably partially because he’s young
That principal has a helluva personality
Wow, you didn’t need to call him fat ^^^^^^/s
100% good vibes you can feel behind a screen
After he stole the ball and had that adrenaline rush his student says “he about to have a heart attack” lol. Everybody in on it. Pump him up for the first play, clown him for the second
More than that, he knew about letting Brown save a bit of face.
the whole thing seems wholesome af, I actually laughed when he ran out into the hallway
I hate that I am so good at being a cynical and jaded almost 40 something but videos like this make me smile.
It’s a real pain in the ass!
Probably beats the hell out of an actual dunk tank or getting a pie to the face. When you think about it embarrassment is part of the job for a school principal.
Funny story: my ex-wife was a cheerleader and her Dad was the high school Principal. They had a prank at a pep rally that was supposed to end with him getting an unexpected pie in the face
However, they forgot to thaw the pie completely before doing it, so it ended up being more like a concrete block to the face.
(Of course, this was told to me by my ex wife, so it could all be a crock of shit)
What an odd time to talk about your ex wife.
Getting postered by an NBA star when you’re an NBA player yourself is a bit embarrassing.
Getting postered by an NBA star when you’re a high school principal is one of the coolest stories of your life.
Didn’t even think about that, but ya, that is pretty good. Seems like the type of guy who knows how to tell a joke and also take a joke.
bro made a business decision
wait
Shoulda just made Jaylen go left. He can’t go left
Im still tapping my head when I see buddy in the hallway
Principal should have called a carry
Jaylen literally had to bust out the Iverson handles
Jaylen Brown Iverson handles
Jaylen Brown
Iverson handles
LOL
Iverson handle*
Now I’m picturing Iverson with an actual handle on his back, like you could carry him around, like Zion could lift him over his head
Wouldn’t that be more like Muggsy Bogues?
What?
Jaylen has singular handle
hey you only need one hand to hold a FMVP trophy
lmao
When did Iverson get one of his hands amputated?
nah both hands
But Iverson has a left hand?
Blasphemy. Iverson don’t carry.
Someone who clearly never watched Iverson play lol.
It’s the left hand carry, goof.
My first thought on that possession was, “damn, he really carried there”
This is pretty much the norm now, unfortunately. The little hesi carry dribble probably happens 300-400 times a game, no joke.
Carry all day.
Principal should have made him go left!
Big time.
Bruh this high school gym looks better than my college gym
You should see the football stadiums for Texas high schools, puts most universities to shame.
And some of their baseball fields are just dirt patches lol. Texas high schools got their priorities in order
It’s hard to keep grass alive year round in Texas, cut us some slack :D
Except for the football fields lol, them fields are greener than a John Deere
most of them are turf. Especially the ones with the type of stadiums talked about above.
That’s a good point
You got me there :D
My HS in Texas had a turf field 🤪
Ah fair
their pro baseball fields famously don’t have real grass either
Yup. My little brothers playoff games were at the Cowboys practice stadium. Which seats a few thousand.
The financing on it is very interesting, it ended up being something like: City of Frisco \(60m Frisco ISD \)30m Cowboys $170m + ongoing maintenance
I remember doing official visits in Michigan, driving through tiny towns and being baffled at the HS football fields.
There’s a new stadium in Buford, Georgia that cost $62 million.
That’s peanuts.
Cy Fair in Houston did like 120
https://frontofficesports.com/most-expensive-high-school-football-stadiums/
That’s his old high school. Wheeler High in marietta. And that’s nowhere near a “nice” high school gym in Marietta. High school sports don’t fuck around in the south.
Wheeler always has a good team, though.
Wheeler is great and it’s a solid gym but yeah, so many really nice gyms in ATL and the Atlanta metro area
oh yeah, lassiter and pope have crazier facilities. it’s kinda wild honestly and it’s not just cobb lol
Pope has invested so much in facilities since I graduated (in 2016). Walton remains insane tho
Google Buford High’s new 20 m stadium
That’s one of the nicer schools in Marietta/Cobb County School District (Wheeler). Things have probably changed since I was in the area (I went to the 2nd worst in the county lol) but IIRC Wheeler was always one of the better ones that got all the money poured into it.
A couple others probably looked closer to college gyms/facilities (maybe Lassiter or Pope still?); if there’s anything the south/GA doesn’t skimp on it’s athletics.
Well it probably helps that they are a magnet school too lol
To be fair this is Wheeler high school (where Jaylen went, and I played against him there), they’re a basketball powerhouse, winning state pretty consistently and have a few current NBA player alumnus, like I believe Isaiah Collier went there as well.
Back when I was in high school (around 2017), they had 4 4-5 star guys and I’m pretty sure DJ Esco DJ’d some of their games.
It’s better than anything on the island of Ireland lol
I’m from where Jaylens from and that High School is known for their Basketball program. Like so many state championship won by that school.
So not too surprised that the Basketball gym is as nice as it is
J.J. Hickson, the man who shouted out a strip club on valentines day, and Shareef Abdur-Raheem are also Alumni of that high school too
That’s just a regular school gym in USA. Or at least that’s what they look like in my state of the USA.
I went to a DII school, our gym was definitely worse than this.
North of Atlanta has some extremely nice high schools
Jaylen brown went here - its in east cobb GA
Props to that principal, played solid defense. JB carried hard before that dunk, at the top of the key.
Blew the open layup tho
Clearly a defensive specialist
The advanced analytics are not going to be great on this guy tbh
He probably threw up it up quick think JB was waiting to go for a monster block. Only open in hindsight. At that height, with a 6’7” NBA athlete waiting, you only know its open after its already up in the air.
wait, do i not know where the “top of the key” is?
Yeah that’s not the top of the key. It’s kinda no man’s land. Maybe you could call it the hash, but JB is a few feet from there
It’s only like two steps from the top of the key… it’s obvious what he means
When you’re two steps away from the top of the key you’re at the foul line, the elbow, or the half court line
Basketball courts aren’t that large for the number of “locations” they have
The top of the key is the top of the half-circle above the foul line. On an NBA court, there’s space between the top of the key and the 3 point line, but on this court they’re touching. JB was certainly a few steps out from the top of the key for the carry that’s being talked about, but I didn’t bat an eye at the description.
the carry is ridiculous
Bro can’t have fun without Redditors calling carry lol
I can tell who on this subreddit actually plays basketball. That has just simply become the natural dribbling motion I’d say ever since over a decade ago. I barely remember it actually being called when I was playing ball in HS, don’t ever really see it called at the collegiate level neither.
My dad used to bitch about it all the time back in the 90s, but even his grumpy ass eventually admitted it was being not called fairly and that sports evolve over time
Precisely this, similarly to how what is a gather step today would’ve been called a travel 30-40+ years ago. The game will always evolve.
It’s 100% a violation by the NBA’s own rulebook.
A player who is dribbling may not put any part of his hand under the ball and (1) carry it from one point to another or (2) bring it to a pause and then continue to dribble again.
https://official.nba.com/rule-no-10-violations-and-penalties/
I was playing a rec league basketball game a couple of weeks ago and got the inbound pass after the other team scored. I started dribbling up the court - nobody within 25 feet of me - and the ref had the nerve to call a carry on me. I was beside myself. Never in my four decades of playing basketball have I ever had a carry called on me and that’s the moment it actually happened.
That’s pretty hilarious ngl. Rec league refs either blow the whistle religiously or they call nothing you get no in between loll.
i play multiple times a week and have been officiating for 10 years. idk where you’re playing but the only level this is acceptable is nba and it’s still a violation by their own rulebook
I played at a 4A highschool in Clark County Indiana and a year at Western Illinois before I stopped playing basketball. And I’m very familiar with the official rule book lol, that doesn’t change the fact that in today’s game it’s evolved to a natural motion in ball handling and unless there’s a major dip they won’t call it.
I kid you not I’ve never seen a carry called if it was in the style of Jaylen Brown’s “carry” as seen in the video above
At some point you need to create a clear definition for it otherwise wtf is the definition of dribbling if I can just underhand the ball every step for an indefinite amount of time.
Reddit hates nothing more than happiness.
Everyone stop having fun my wife left me
It’s crazy how negative this whole website is in general compared to when I first joined. All the agitation propaganda over the last decade has turned everyone into miserable assholes.
Right 😂😂 so many players carry the ball now a days
Especially those who can only dribble with one hand
No that’s NBA certified
You realize this isn’t a real game right?
After he stole the ball: oh maybe he can hoop!
Once he tried to dribble: so much for that
After he got dunked on: welp…
Yep, his defense had me thinking maybe he got game, then he started the stanley dribble lol
Stanley dribble 😂
Even the principal knows Jaylen can’t go to his left.
He has good hands though, maybe former football.
Man that would be so fun being in that gym good for those kids
For real who wouldn’t want to see their principal get postered
The critiques of Jaylen Brown 😭 dang you have to always be on? even if you’re just playing a high school principal for fun.
They calling his travel in a lil pick up for the kids 😭
Kids gon’ learn today!
That’s my finals MVP.
he was just judging how much he needed to show out
Good clean fun. Love to see it.
Imagine having to resort to a carry to score on this principle
Imagine seeing “principal” 20 times before you wrote this, and you still spelled it wrong.
Maybe he spelled it wrong on principle.
that goes against their principals
I don’t know why you wouldn’t misspell it here and continue the joke.
It’s low hanging fruit but at least it would have complimented the bit.
The man’s got principals.
Maybe they thought they were spelling it wrong but accidentally spelled it write.
I imagine it has to be hard for NBA players in situations like this to gauge how hard to play.
You can’t go all out obviously but if you go too easy on the other person, you might get stripped and get clowned online. And then you have to remind everyone that you do this for a living and you’re much much better than nearly everyone else. Hell, there’s videos of Jordan in similar situations.
Dude will go down in history for these kids
“Yo, you remember when your principal stripped the ball from the Finals MVP?”
I’m gonna sound like an old head but rushing the court with your phone feels lame. Doesn’t have the same Ruck And1 rush vibe
it’s lame when it’s forced but I think sometimes it’s cool. like KD goin off in that street game
Zero phones though https://youtu.be/ESkDIANxh2A?si=aDAAq8AbJ1VFEJIG
oh damn you’re right, back in 2011?? this vid does not feel that old
Classic JB. Will get stripped on one possession then dunk on you in the next
Quick 1 on 1 question, do you guys play like this where you check it up again after getting a defensive rebound? I always play that the ball is still live in play and the defender takes it back beyond the arc.
I grew up playing the way you mentioned when you get a defensive rebound you play the ball live and clear it behind the arc).
But I feel like it’s a newer way of 1v1 in the last decade or so to just reset and check it up again. It saves energy for both players and spend less time rebounding the ball. I could be wrong, but that’s my take on it. I still prefer the old way because it teaches you to keep hustling for the board.
Imo if you’re playing for cardio or for fun play the boards. If you’re legit 1v1, a miss is a miss.
Shit I’ve seen some pros train and they’ll even have a 3 dribble limit, no rebounds. If you’re trying to get better at scoring and defense, don’t waste energy on the boards imo.
This was a fun engagement
NO LEFT HAND
like wrestling, the pros should hype up the crowd first before you drop your finisher. JB did a good job getting the kids hyped
That was fun! Brought a smile to my face. Always liked Jaylen.
That’s Jaylens high school btw
That principal has a story. Those kids have a story. And Brown had a good time providing ‘em.
Principal had me fooled for a second and then he dribbled 😂
Still no left
Getting a steal AND getting dunked on would be the highlight of my life.
Holy some of y’all are miserable. They’re just tryna put on a lil fun show for the kids damn
The vibes are immaculate.
I love the fact that he didn’t block the principal shot. I have seen a lot of videos of pros blocking children’s shots and whatsoever. I don’t find it so funny, to be honest.
That’s a cool principal right there.
I’m certain both events will be highlights for him forever
Seems like they’re both having fun and being a good sport.
Good awesome vibes, love it! Good times.
honestly best case scenario for the principal. kids got great moments out of this
Waited a lifetime for a moment like this
That whole video was wholesome. Everyone was having fun and good spirited.
This was unexpectedly wholesome
Super cool experience. I know the principal will brag to the students about this moment for the rest of his career
Good principal doing good things. Bravo.
Immensely funny the principal ran out the gym. Great sport with a flair for comedic timing.
Principal? Goddamn, that dude is my age. Is school leadership really in their 30s now?
John Legend or Klay Thompson?
Dude couldn’t even go left on the principal
LOL, deserved to get dunked on after missing that wide open layup.
As a celtics fan, I just fucking love this guy. He’s just all around awesome.
I’m excited the see Jalen Brown as the centerpiece this year.
Principle should have forced him to go left smh
(For you stupid mfs this is sarcasm)
Wait Corey Joseph is a principal now?
Principal looks so young. All my principals were like 50+ old white dudes. Guy looks like he’s in his 30s.
so school admins and principals are actual normal looking people now? no more Mr. Belding stereotypes
They are nba players dawg lol
I could tell by the carry
Fuck around and find out, principal! 🤣
How did JG keep his dribble??
That’s what these young kids need to learn. Once you see that crossover coming, it’s cookies. You don’t have to reach just watch the hips don’t watch the ball. Obviously it doesn’t work every single time but the timing is key, they are expecting the ball to hit the floor but you already touched it halfway down.
Principal reaction was gold
Principal gave him an easy one
Jaylen wasn’t even trying; i think he let him have it and even let him get his shot off. The carry had no effect.
Its like might mouse fighting a giant
Petty as fuck, but if I would have done the same lol
He’ll remember both those plays fondly
He a better man than me I wouldn’t ever run it back after clamping a NBA player
That gymnasium seems huge
Shut it down! Let’s go 🏠!
Love how JB went from level -03 to 10 after getting picked. Great moment for the kiddos
That’s so cool
What an exciting day for the principal and the kids. Not only does their principal lock him up and take his cookies, the principal gets yammed on. What a story to tell, fucking epic!
Wdym principal? That’s Fred
Principal not getting paid enough, he’s already got his Best Buy uniform on to run to the next job after the final bell
