Neemias Queta just put up a ridiculous statline at EuroBasket
23 pts, 18 rebounds , 4 steals and 4 blocks for anyone wondering!
He hit a 3 pointer as well
That’s the most ridiculous part
Not as ridiculous as it seems. People close to the team think he has that range. Obviously you don’t have the green light as a deep bench player, but maybe that changes this year. It’d be the time to find out.
He hasn’t just “not had a green light” though.
In 1,345 NBA minutes he has only 3 3PA and he missed them all.
Isn’t that a function of how he’s been used? He’s 26. By his age 26 season, Al Horford had only ten 3PA and he missed all of them, this over six full seasons.
*I am not saying Queta is going to be Al. I’m saying just because a player is used a certain way it doesn’t mean he can’t adapt/thrive in a different role.
I’m not sure we want him in that role anyway. I’d rather he be the new Luke.
Depends on what the team looks like, I guess. Curious how Joe puts these pieces together. Luke wasn’t needed as a stretch big with the personnel we had
Why do I seem to remember him hitting a 3 and then telling someone, “you dont know me bro”
Summerleague or pre season I think
Against Paolo Banchero.
Summer league when still on Kings he have a realy fun one there
In 4,458 NBA minutes before joining Boston, Baynes was 1⁄8 on 3PA.
midrange sniper though
Not sure how that’s different from what I said.
Context or do you see a distinction?
His decent free throw making is a sign that he can definitely shoot a little bit.
He shot 3’s up in maine a lot
What’s even crazier is he hit a 3pointer and this was in a game they won 62-50. Bruh scored half the enemy’s points and a 1/3rd of his own teams. This is like 2000s basketball
Absurd, especially for a team like Portugal
Just throwing this out there as food for thought
If queta say, put up like 12⁄8 on good efficiency and shot like 3 3s a game on like 34%… what are we saying?
Hes still kinda young(26 yrs old), and has always been and nba level athlete, built very sturdy and has never really had any serious injuries that I can remember
Like if he could be that productive do we maybe not hunt for a starting level 5 next summer and just roll out neemy and look to improve elsewhere?
Obviously this also includes neemy improving significantly at the little things like defensive iq/dribble hand offs/gortat screens/etc
If Neemy can prove to be a starter level center and we believe he can do that in the playoffs, I still think we look to find a starter level center. We may not need to get a top 10 center and get crazy with sending assets, but Brad has always had 2 starter level centers on the roster since taking over. Unless you can get an ironman center, like Jokic or Bam, it’s likely that even a healthier center is going to miss time if you are trying to play them 30+mpg.
Come playoff time, you will want 2 starter level centers due to the nature of the position, it’s importance to playoff defense, and how unreliable it can be in terms of health. In addition, double-big lineups can be very effective lineups on both ends of the floor with the right bigs and we have used double-bigs more than most since Brad took over.
Even if Queta hits his absolute ceiling (My delusional prediction before last season that he could be 90% of Ivica Zubac has a flicker of life with the opportunity he’s going to get) they’d probably need to throw resources at finding another option to start/close games at 5. There’s usually a pretty hard ceiling on how many minutes traditional rim running 5s can play. Maybe Al will come home and give Father Time another noogie after he steals money from Joe Lacob next year
Why bother with 12 and 8? He should just do 23 pts, 18 rebounds , 4 steals and 4 blocks again.
That was in a 40min game so you gotta buff those numbers by 20% for a 48min nba game.
28 points, 22 rebounds, 5 blocks, 5 steals
No one was saying the Mavericks had a terrible front court when they were running a primary rotation of rookie Derrick Lively and Daniel Gafford at the 5.
I think people underrate Queta because he was buried on the depth chart. If he spent last season somewhere that needed to play him he’d be viewed as a solid rotation-caliber guy
Any time I see this kind of thing, it just reminds me that all these guys can play. It’s more about opportunity and role. Think yabu for team France.
Doesn’t mean much at the nba level because queta won’t be able to earn a role that will allow him to get those kind of stats and if he did, you better believe the team would be worse for wear.
Is he going to have the kind of role where he can get 23/18/4/4? No, but I think he can still earn a starter role and be our primary defensive anchor. At the very least, he’s going to have plenty of opportunity to earn it this year.
Slice that stat line in half and it’s still damn good for him.
Have you seen him handle a basketball? It’s like watching a cat try to solve a Rubik’s cube
Have you seen a cat solve a Rubik’s cube?
I haven’t, but it sounds fucking awesome
Sounds like something I’d pay to watch!
23pts 18reb 4blk 1ast 2pf
It seems like he’ll be our starter. I think it’s fair to have a starting lineup consisting of the 24 championship squad
I’ve loved Queta ever since he ‘won’ the two-way spot over that former Lakers Center. Super happy to see him quietly progress over the last couple of years. He has the tools to be a good Center in this league.
Bobby Manning had a great interview with Queta a couple weeks back at his basketball camp in Portugal. Well spoken and grounded. I really came away from that liking him a lot more.
I’ve been high on him as a starter that’s not a massive negative anyway. I think he can be a passable nba starter asked to do a more old school big type role. This doesn’t cool those thoughts for me at all
The confidence he will gain from this is invaluable.
Could he be the Timelord that was promised?
Looks like he’s got more offensive skills than people thought, maybe starting next season could take him to the next level
THE QUNICORN!!!!
Starting center, Neemias Queta.
Being Portuguese right now is so refreshing ! 😍
Another thing is Portugal is still finding ways to give him the ball we can expect even better shotting/dunking days…

Let’s see how he goes vs Jokic, Sengun, Porzingis
