6 years ago, today: Zion Williamson made this ridiculous play during his Summer League debut that was cut short because of an earthquake.
Knox got abused here I feel bad
If that happens to me at the park I’m going home immediately
I’m calling 🧢 on this because if this happens to me at the park I’m calling ball (just like Knox wished he could’ve). 😆😆😆
If you call ball on that you deserve to get a slap. Call fouls on fouls. Don’t call fouls because you got big boy’d.
If im playing pick up I ain’t calling shit, and whoever does is a puss
Nah you call fouls that the defense can’t argue about. If they wanna bitch about it, give me the rock. Ball don’t lie.
It depends if they play defense by fouling
This is facts. Any marginal contact and I’m yelling AND1, not calling foul
And leaving the ball lmao
One of our worst frp of recent times. Idk what Scott Perry and Co saw in Mr.Fortnite to take him over Mikal Bridges (which many knicks fans wanted) or other great selections that were still avaiable then.
Also mind blowing how people said he looked amazing in the Summer League because he averaged 21 ppg and had some athletic dunks but completely ignored that he shot 35% from the field. Somehow got 1st team despite Mitchell Robinson averaging literally record breaking bpg and oreb with no recognition. Makes you feel like you’re the crazy one.
That December Rookie of the Month award for his 17 PPG really had me believing for a little while, though
He had some amazing dunks that first summer league. I was intrigued
Idk what Scott Perry and Co saw in Mr.Fortnite
Teams always overvalue size and athleticism and undervalue the actual skill level of the player
I get that but there were other players still on the board then that fit that criteria and were better than Knox.
Teams always overvalue size and athleticism…
“I can fix him.”
For everyone but guards, many fan bases think 6’7” is great but 6’6” is awful.
You can teach skills, you can’t teach height.
I guess he was really productive as a freshman in the SEC? My problem with Knox was always him being an undersized stretch 4 that couldn’t pass or defend, though. Even the shooting wasn’t anything special. Most obvious example of an archetype that works in college and nowhere after
Bro that Kentucky team was stacked with way better players than Knox. That pick was a massive overreach and I wasnt thrilled about it. I remember a few days later CBS interviewed John Calipari about Knox and he basically gave the impression that Knox was still a few years out before he would become something. If I remember right I believe one of the reasons our FO picked him was because of his height and wingspan.
He should have never gone that high in the draft.
As someone that loves SL performers I knew the Knox run was a bullshit as a UK fan. That man coasted on talent for a while and never honed real game. Still in the league though lol
Frank Ntilikina was much worse, colossal bust that I saw coming from a mile away. Dude had the handles of a 70s power forward and averaged 5 pts in some trash French league
He was never the same after this happened
Zion literally sucked all the talent out of fortnite with that move
I won’t lie pre draft Knox had me fooled, never believing in the “great workout” over in game film again.
He was actually never seen from again after this
Hawks legend
Ended his career basically
He’s been in the league for six years?!!!!
And zero playoff games played in. It’s unbelievable
The Pelicans even made the playoffs during that time last year, he was just injured and couldn’t play
Minor injury that held him out of the first 4 games but he may have returned if the Pels could have extended the series. And he only got injured after dropping 40 on the Lakers in the play-in
That Lakers game was ridiculous - dude was absolutely unstoppable. Closest we’ve ever gotten to The Zion that was Promised
So fucking unfortunate, we’ve definitely seen enough of Zion at his best to know that a consistent Zion would easily be an MVP franchise changing level player. Instead we’ve gotten what he is.
He was the best player on the floor that night. If he didn’t exit the game because of injury New Orleans might have beaten us. Shame about his health and diet. He just can’t be consistently healthy.
His weight loss should help out less stress on his hammy. That’s why he was able to play 25 or so straight games and the end of the year this year
It was also the game that Reggie Miller kept saying Bandem Ingam instead of Brandon Ingram and then suggested that the Lakers should purposefully miss a free throw instead of going up 4 with 2 seconds left
i vividly remember that game. he was incredible. he’s already gotta be one of the biggest what-ifs ever right? i know the nba had a lot of em but he has only played more than 30 games twice + missed an entire year.
I mean he is still only 24 or 25. Lot of time left and he HAS lost weight and has shown signs of leadership
Heard this before
And Ben Simmons is working on his jumper too…
Been to the playoffs twice and even playin like, 2 more time on top of that I believe
And just this year he put up his first NBA triple-double.
Triple doubles are extremely hard for big men
Can easily get it at in n out
He’s 6’6
*He lead a team to 49 wins in the West, scored 40 in an epic Play-in comeback only to get hurt, assuring loss, and be out for his first playoffs.
If you don’t like that, you don’t like Pels basketball.
He scored like 50 in a play in game though
Oh it’s believable when you’ve been invested in the kid this long
Covid years trauma does that to the mind. I forgot that I was watching him at Duke my freshman year of college.
Yup I watched them beat us at FSU w a cam reddish buzzer beater off a fake play for Barrett
Yeah, I can’t believe people keep paying Kevin Knox.
Then an earthquake happened like 6 seconds later lmao
And we all just saw what caused it
yeah we all read the title of the thread
Does the title say that the earthquake happened 6 seconds later? No, it doesn’t.
And it’s a good thing it doesn’t, considering the earthquake happened 3 quarters later
It’s literally in the video dude
lmfao, desperate
I remember someone I followed at the time (Robbie Fox) was there and got high right before the earthquake happened
I knew this joke was gonna happen lol
bro snatch that shit like it was his lunch money. Only if he had that same hunger for his career
[removed]
I see no problem with that James Harden the Goat at the strip and on the floor
Unless it’s an important playoff game
We can’t all be MJ
That’s why he’s the GOAT!! Lebron can’t keep up!!! 😂
Gluttony and lust
Blackjack and hookers > snacks and whores
I remember the bar I was at when I watched this..looked at my homie with a look of “oh this mfer is gunna be a problem in the league”
Was completely wrong lol
Just didn’t realize it was gonna be the Pel’s problem.
zion has a strong hunger that’s part of the problem
I swear I’ve seen almost this exact play by him against 3 different teams!
Did something similar to Giannis which is crazy because Giannis is strong AF too.
Yes that’s one of the two I remember watching!
The other one I caught on a dunk compilation but can’t remember against which team it was.
This is completely different tho, giannis held the ball high and behind his neck.
Yeah credit to Zion but Giannis had just got it off a rebound he didn’t have a great grip on it
This guy is still there. It’s gonna show up next year
It’s unfortunate that one of the most promising draft prospects in the past decade or so turned out to be a porn addicted glutton.
He just like me fr
I hope so man, he’s an electric player when he’s right
Haven’t we been saying this since he got drafted
Kevin Knox? Wow
One season. He’s been healthy for one season, and in that one season he had a stretch of 29/7/4 on 65/39/73(!!) 29 points on about 70% true shooting is insane.
I still remember the play in game against the Lakers. Just dominant ability at the rim.
I’ve heard this every year for 5 years now
Still fat you mean yeah, this player has kept the Pelicans sucking since he got drafted and got you with hope. Each year that passes his value for a trade lowers.
Zion is mostly muscle wtf you mean fat lol
Fat means he’s absolutely overweight, full of fat. As a foreigner this is the player I’ve never grasped to understand why it was liked but you all
Because he is very fun to watch with incredible athleticism and strength and a fantastic touch near the rim? I don’t see how that’s hard to understand. This isn’t Paris Fashion week, I only care if it’s fun to watch your basketball.
Yeah but it’s not good for winning. The guy due to his overweight has been injured a lot. They should have traded him a long time a go. When he gets traded will be for peanuts
we saw a bit of it this year too
He only played 30 games but he could’ve got up to 50. Pelicans were just conservative about back to backs and then practically ended the season with 10 games left
You don’t play 30 games because the team is being “conservative” lmao
1.5x of him. And there lies the problem.
Zion can still dominate. He just cant stay on the floor long enough for it to matter.
He stayed on the floor just not enough to see the post season when they made it
Sent bro back to the lobby
turns out Zion been in the lobby of Fortnight since then
Pelipper used earthquake, what is this hackmons nonsense
God, when Zion was first coming into the scene it was so fun. For all the players that get overhyped, that dude when healthy could truly deliver and nobody looks foolish for thinking he was the next big thing.
I misread it thinking you said he caused an earthquake with that dunk 🤣
What could have been
That was pretty much the end of Kevin Knox in NY.
That was the end of Kevin Knox period
Poor Knox, he never really recovered after this
Still probably the most memorable play of his NBA career.
What about the 360 windmill dunk?
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=TfxScKi_Zec
Is this the #1 on the top Vegas Summer League plays?
Love this poetic geology commentary: “It went left… then right… then left again!” Truly a masterclass in explaining earthquakes for people who also think the Earth is flat.
Surreal being there in the moment.
This was pretty much the end of Kevin Knox being taken seriously as a prospect.
Shame he couldn’t stay healthy
Waste of talent
I was at this, high on edibles. Insane experience.
It’s crazy to watch his career transform into “Trust me, you had to be there” in real time.
I was here. So fun. If anyone here is a basketball fan. A TRUE basketball fan, let me tell you man, summer league is what you want to be at. It’s the best basketball experience you will ever have. I’m going Wednesday for my 10 year plus time and I’ll go until I die. GO.
Knicks legend
Back when he was healthy.
I was so sure he was gonna be a superstar
Biggest and most disappointing bust in quite some time.
This might actually be the peak of his career
He was still fat back then
I always loved the otherworldly scream when he dunks the ball.
“I’ve never experienced an earthquake before, but I knew exactly what it was when I felt the ground beneath me moving left and then right.” Real life Sherlock Holmes.
This might be the most memorable SL play.
I’ve definitely tied someone up from behind if they weren’t expecting it and ripped for a steal plenty of times, but never enough to throw them to the ground 😂, that’s insanity
Just bullied and mugged Kevin Knox
It feels so odd to me they some people have never felt an earthquake, must be rough the first time
Since then he became jumbo burger king😂
Really thought he will be an all timer. Injuries and/or his diet ruined his chances.
Thought the ball was a hamburger 🍔.
and then he averaged 4 games a year for his career
This chick went from announcing summer league games to the finals in 5 years. Sad.
6 years? Fucking hell
I was so excited for zions career, but I’m beginning to think I’ve already seen his peak.
Zion is a bust. Such a disappointment. He was next up.
Sums up knocks career in one play pretty well. Jeez. What a way to start
Was thinking of a double cheeseburger
And hasn’t played 30 straight games since
It’s been 6 years—whistles
is this a top 5 or top 10 Zion highlight since being drafted?
You mean he committed a fouls and got away with it
As basketball fans we deserve at least one fully healthy Zion season. He’s still only 24 and I really hope he some how makes a comeback
6 years is crazy
Then he got fat and is on course to waste his entire career
I was there live. Electricity was palpable. Sad he never lived up fully to this hype
“Oh yeah it’s time to get in the gym” is crazy foreshadowing
Those knees probably past warranty at this point
The earthquake was from him landing?
If he could just watch his weight and stay healthy
I was at this game, everything was intensity to the highest degree. Great memory for sure!
That’s great, it starts with an earthquake
This motherfucker was drafted 2019, but never seen this shit healthy even once. Why the f*ck pelicans still pay this guy? Just crazy.
Treated him as if a porche pirate was stealing his Uber eats order.
I know reddit is concerned with his weight, but saying he causes an earthquake every time he jumps and lands is just a rumour
This is the time I knew knox is a bust
Knox’s Brandon knight moment.
There’s an alternate reality where Zion is a 3xMVP and one of the most exciting players of all-time
Wish we were in that reality
Zion for Kuminga sign and trade?
Get Zion the fuck out of New Orleans!!!
