I want to move a high rolled crit hit chance from an aegis quarterstaff that is ilvl 81 to a Sinister quarterstaff that is ilvl 82. The recombinator says I have a 54% chance of success. Will it automatically use the lower lvl base, lower the ilvl of the new base even if it’s the sinister quarter staff?

I wouldn’t know.

No matter the success % of mine the items always get destroyed. I have at least 30+ failures with level 82 items in a row.

Hell, I’ve tried to recombine the lowest tier mods on level 82 items with a 100% failure rate.

It’s comical…

I’ve had success with it. Just gotta limit how many mods you pick. Like with belts I combine chaos res and whatever elemental resistance is on the other belt. Then exalt slam and hope for a third resist, life, and mana ideally. I just save the 3 charm belts for this. But they’re not hard to craft and they sell for a ton

I’ve recombined many items, and from what I can tell there’s an element of randomness but possibly a biased towards the lower tier mod.

Does Recombinator always use lower ilvl base?
