Isn’t that funny? I live in Charlotte NC and travel to some wonderful, clean, not crowded beaches in Wilmington NC. The locals there don’t even go to the beach. They just live a normal life. My family that lives there literally will go to any other beach but their own lol.

Well in this specific case it’s that facilities and shit are WAY more impactful on being able to get recruits/transfer portal people to come to your team. It’s not meaningless for pro teams, but if you offer a FA a fat contract you’re prob 90% of the way to getting them, how close your team is to contending for a super bowl is probably 9 of the remaining 10%, and the final 1% is all the facilities and other shit your team is offering.

In college though, while sure, tons of kids want to play at Bama/Georgia/OSU or whatever and compete for titles, but they also want to showcase their talent for the NFL, and also live it up, and now also get fat NIL money, so the arms race is completely different.

Not exactly Sacramento but my first time to California I had to fly through Travis AFB which I think is Vacaville and I had the same thought as Boogie when taking my ride into Sacramento. I’m thinking there’s going to be Palm trees and all I see is farmland and the smell of cow shit.

Distance in California is different then the east coast

Born and raised in CA and went to college and worked in NY and now back in CA

Basically, the density of the east coast and public transportation forces people into a smaller radius. Everyone in NY thought a 1.5hr trip down to Philly was like something that needed to be “planned”.

Where in CA everything is multiple hours away by car. So driving 1.5hrs each way for a game or an activity is just kinda the norm.

In LA 2 hours away is costco

Or alternatively, it’s easy to do day trips to both. I grew up in Fresno, which is Sacramento but worse in every way, and we used to do day trips skiing or day trips to the beach.

TIL 2 hour drives is considered long by the younguns

I’m from a town north of Sacramento. Hot as hell and the only nice thing is the Sacramento River. Our local tourism channel on TV was always focused on all the things you could do that were only a couple hours away.

And especially Roseville since it doesn’t get as much of the delta breeze as Sacramento. It’s wild the temp difference is driving 90 minutes to SF.

Honestly the weather isn’t even that bad. It’s no San Diego, but it’s still a hell of a lot better than most of the country

No snow to worry about, and it doesn’t get too cold. The summer gets hot, but it still cools off to below 80 most nights. The city has tons of tree coverage, and often has a nice breeze, and it’s not humid like the East Coast or the South

Some days are brutal where it’s like ¹⁰⁵⁄₈₅, but for example, right now it’s 1pm and 79 degrees out with no humidity in July. It’ll hit 100 later this week, but the daily low will still be only like 62.

I keep my apartment windows open most nights with no issues; I can’t imagine doing that in Texas or Florida
