Throwback: ‘15 Celtics Summer League Roster
Throwback to thinking Jordan Mickey would be the next big thing
he crawled so Robert Williams could run
he crawled so Robert Williams could run hobble
FTFY
And James Young.
James Young and RJ Hunter used to dominate my NBA2K association modes.
Dammit I had this name erased from memory 🥲
I still believe.
I believe he had a rediculous PER for a vut because he would check in for 2 mins of garbage time and rack up a bunch of blocks and rebounds. Just too good for the d league but not good enough for the NBA.
How many of these guys ended up being serviceable NBA players? Smart, Rozier, O’Neale?
Marcus Thornton was surprisingly good. Had a seven year career.
Wrong Marcus Thorton. This is W&M’s own Marcus Thornton.
He went to Australia and a fan poured beer on him when he fell on the ground
Damn, that’s a heavy beer
Pretty sure you got the wrong one. We had one we got from the Brooklyn trade and one who was a second round pick.
James Young man I thought him and Marcus pairing were gonna be the future
That year Danny took the direction of drafting smart young players a little too literally
Still remember those We Are Young and Smart shirts they wore
I bought a James young jersey that year. Was v excited about his future.
I remember being pissed we took him over Gary Harris
Wasn’t worth the energy
#FreeJamesYoung
I remember when everyone (including myself) was so hyped we got RJ Hunter, and thought that he made up for the terrible Terry Rozier pick at 16.
Goes to show we don’t know jack shit about who will be good the night of.
I didn’t read the subject of this post and I thought for a second RJ Hunter was on the summer league roster again.
After watching his dad coach with a boot on in the NCAA tournament I thought the blood line was goated
If anyone knew anything, Jokic wouldn’t have been drafted in the second round
Completely forgot royce o’neale was on that squad. He’s carved out a nice career since then!

Oh boi that aged well
I thought James young would be really good
Colton Iverson the ultimate overseas stash.
I don’t think he ever came back! He’s lost in Europe somewhere.
Ed Lacerte!
remember the good ole Young vs Hunter debate
I thought RJ Hunter was going to be a great 3pt shooting wing.
I still think it’s weird that people loved him.
He legit shot sub 40% from the field and 30% from deep his junior year while shooting 8 of them per game. He got drafted because he hit a big shot and his dad fell out of his scooter.
Ed Lacerte = GOAT
It’s a yearly tradition to watch RJ Hunter’s summer league highlights. His jump shot was too damn pure.
What a time to be alive 😂
Jordan Mickey would’ve been fine in the 90s.
I thought Jordan Mickey and RJ Hunter could be next up for us.
I was so in on Jordan Mickey lol
CJ Fair was a bucket
I remember this. I also remember for a few weeks there was a period of time where around the draft, they had talked about a Smart for Nerlens Noel trade….
oh lawd Nerlens Noel…
Ohh when we thought young would be something
That is just rough
Given how things played out, I think it would have made sense to try a couple picks like the ones Brad used to get White, Brogdon, Horford and ultimately Holiday a little earlier in the building cycle. That 2016 or 2017 team could have used some more horsepower and contracts like David Lee, Amir Johnson, young guys like Young, Hunter, Sullinger, Olynyk and Rozier (who had trade value but weren’t going to be able to play big minutes on the teams Boston fielded in the 2016-2020 window) and the 4 picks between 15 and 35 we had in the 2016 draft could have been packaged for more talent.
If that had been packaged for some better players, they absolutely could have maybe done more to attract another free agent with a better roster and better showing in that first Horford season.
I went to Utah summer league in 2017. Man, that was a blast. Celtics, 76ers, Spurs, and Jazz. Brown, Tatum, D Whiite, Mitchell, Fultz, and Dejounte Murray. So much talent that year. I remember being hyped about Brown, Tatum, Mitchell, and Abdel Nader. 😂
Summer league Rozier was hitting clutch shots nightly
Was this the era they had SL games at smaller colleges in Massachusetts?
P Ro 🗣️
RJ Hunter! Man, I thought that guy would be great.
I hated James Young so much, it was irrational, except I was totally right about him.
I believed in Colton Iverson
How many of these guys were swings and misses by Angie? RJ Hunter supposed to be a big-time shooter never panned out James Young another big-time shooter never panned out. He had a great NCAA tournament.. stock rose Angie bit.
