People think they will sign for cheap because they (in particular Dame) are getting paid by their former teams.
But they don’t understand the mentality of these guys…not only do they want the largest bag possible for financial reasons, but they also see who gets paid what as a pecking order. It’s why Lebron, being a billionaire at this point, could sign anywhere he wants on the cheap to win a title or be in the best possible situation and never miss the money, but will instead keep taking the max from the Lakers. Money = respect.
Thats not the point. I am not saying they are likely to sign with Boston on a vet min. I am saying if that’s what they are willing to sign for or something cheap then it becomes something the Celtics can entertain and is a win win situation with literally 0 fkn downside.
I feel like neither is likely. Beal is only likely bc of his relationship with Tatum but hes unlikely to sign for this year bc Tatum is maybe 20% likely at best to actually even play in 2025-26. Dame makes more sense being on a similar recovery timeline as Tatum, but in the end Boston is not a FA desitinatipn by any stretch so it would be a plausible but rare feet for Dame to actually come here fore a say tax-payer MLE.

You should probably look at who got voted all star over the last few years and how much of that had to do with name recognition and hype, compared to actual production.
All Star voting in the NBA is some of the dumbest and most rigged voting for All Stars in any sport, as to the vote % and who gets final roster say.

Last time Lillard made the All NBA team, it was 3rd team, in his last year in Portland, pre-Giannis combo disaster and pre-injury. And even the All NBA teams have taken a hit in recent years with voters keeping in mind that certain players need the honor for contract purposes, and certain players coasting on offensive prowess too long compared to their drop off on the defensive end due to age. And I feel Lillard’s last all NBA appearance had a lot to do with both.
Dame still put up 25/5/7 on 62.1 TS%. He’s not prime Dame any more, but if you think a guy putting up those numbers was washed then idk what to tell you.

But start Pritch and have Dame as a spark plug/closer? He still has a role in the NBA. Jalen Brunson doesn’t play defense either but does well in the clutch. I imagine Dame could fill a similar void for us. Defense isn’t really a concern for me with Dame, when it comes to players you can actually sign to a vet minimum/MLE contract you can’t expect to get an elite 2 way player. And we can hide him pretty well on defense with White+Jaylen.
Pretty obvious that Dame on a cheap contract is as close to a no brainer as it gets. Supposedly he’s a good locker room guy and I really haven’t heard anything bad about him so it’s pretty much all upside. If it doesn’t work out we can just cut him. But I have no doubt that Joe could work his magic and get the most out of Dame, a career 37% shooter from 3 on crazy high volume.

People are misconstruing bad contract with bad player. Beal’s definitely not worth his contract, but he still scored 17 PPG last year on 59.8 TS%. His defense isn’t very good, and he’s not as good as he was in his prime, but he’s still an above average starter.
Calling very, very good players “washed” is, in my opinion, so disrespectful. You have brought up a super important point though - Beal’s contract is not worth what he brings to the table. It’s ginormous and burdensome. But he’s also still daaaamn good. Would love to see him and Tatum together, just dunno if it will happen.

I don’t know whether he would or wouldn’t, but if he did I imagine the reasons would include the fact that he’s already getting paid from Milwaukee, that he’ll be coming back from a horrific injury as a guard on the wrong side of 35 and he might want to ease back into minutes and have something left in the tank when the playoffs come around. Having said that, if I’m him, I don’t know if I’m picking Boston there are probably better fits out there. San Antonio would be a good option for him IMO (but probably still coming off the bench)

I love Beal, watching highlights of his offense is something every shooter should watch (along with Booker and KD), but it was such a mistake for the Suns to match all 3 dudes together. Highly efficient in terms of their moves, but that doesn’t mean they always convert, and as an overall offense it’s super inefficient. I also feel Beal is nearing the end of his prime potential days, and he I’m not too sure he can adapt as much as Booker would be able to down the line. I kinda wished he somehow just ended in Portland beside Dame, but that could have resulted to its own disaster.
