The Brad Stevens Trifecta
He doesn’t get all three every year, but when he does it sure is special…
Man, the upcoming season is going to remind us how spoiled we have been the past few years. If Hugo turns out to be a steal, that’s a successful enough season for me.
Prior to this year Brad has drafted:
Juhan Begarin, JD Davison, Jordan Walsh, Baylor Scheierman(white), Anton Watson
One white guy. Zero steals of the draft. Zero big’s whose last name is Williams
Exactly. Maybe this guy’s giving him credit for Danny Ainges record or something
Payton Prichard-steal of the draft Grant Williams Rob Williams
All drafted by Ainge.
I mean I love PP but no way he is the steal of the draft ahead of Maxey at 21 or Bane at 30.
lol How not? He is the six man of year, and a champion..they aren’t. He was a role player and contributed to getting a ring. Neither one of those guys probably ever even see a ring. Bane is in Orlando(his second team) and Maxey is in a dysfunctional organization and probably will be most if not his entire career. So by I would say yes PP was the steal of the draft that year.
Ummm Bane getting traded for 4 first round picks should not be a negative? And even at this current team-friendly contract, if someone offered the Bane package to Brad for PP, he’d accept it in a instant, anyone of us would. The ring arguments makes even less sense, I’m very confident that if we had Bane or Maxey instead of PP, we’d still win the ring last year.
Because anyone in their right mind would trade Pritchard for Maxey or Bane? The other two haven’t won 6MOTY because they’re starters, and haven’t won championships because of the team they were drafted to.
I’m not saying you’re wrong, but when did Stevens ever get the steal of the draft? His trades have been top notch.
Scheierman at 30 was pretty outstanding
This year will tell.
Sure. Good pick
Only pick that he’s had in the first round yet so tough to judge the rest. Love Hauser but feel like Sheierman will develop into a more polished version, obviously still needs to work on the defense some but he’s got so much more playmaking ability and his ball handling is much stronger, think he’s much more versatile than Sam and a fraction of the cost. Think Hauser could probably net something valuable and Brad is just waiting for FA to shake out before the next wave of trades.
Baylor is not remotely the shooter Sam is, and I don’t know if playmaking as the 4 or 5 option on the floor matters much.
Bold take that a rookie isnt as good of a shooter as an established veteran with multiple years in the league
Sam Hauser has literally always been a better shooter than Baylor. Baylor doesn’t have great technique and most of his seasons he shot extremely mediocre. Sam has shot over 40% since he was a freshman in HS.
I never said anything to the contrary man
I’m saying those skills at the 5th option do not make Baylor more valuable than Sam. So I disagree with the premise. You just need an absolute sniper. And Baylor is a MUCH worse defender.
Hauser gets us more wins next year, absolutely. No disagreement there.
That wasn’t the steal of the draft it certainly not in public perception.
Stevens has a very limited drafting record because he mostly just has traded his pics in the past and even this year most of the draft picks were just ways to keep the salary down
Almost every pick after #3 is called “the steal of the draft” by somebody
When is he ever drafted the steal of the draft? As far as I can tell he’s mostly just traded his first round picks
