I have a question if you don’t mind. How would one get exactly this item? Do I just have to pray I get that drop. Or trade it? Or is there another way? I’m a new player.
Get a forked spear and chance. The successful rate is around 35-40%. You can farm forked spears at act 2 normal, or whatever level 2x zones. Boring but will eventually get you some
Aaaah. I’ve just gotten to endgame and trying to figure that out. Don’t think I even have a chance orb yet so I this way of playing is probably a little down the line for me.
Or you just buy it. The more common uniques often cost less than 1exalt
You can disenchant unique to get chance shards. Once you get to endgame, you will start to find plenty of unused uniques

I got two to drop yesterday while mapping it’s random. I think I read they can start dropping in act 1 cruel. I tried it out but my spear does twice the damage. I clear groups with one click mostly, rares and bosses go down faster with my rare spear than my tangle tongue.
It’s pretty hard to beat a tangle spear, just have to change some passives. Double crit is insane for how common the spear is
I had 3 drop just during campaign while leveling. As someone else mentioned, the success rate of using chance orbs on the white normal fork spears is relatively high.
You should be able to trade for a decent one for pretty cheap though. It’s only the really high crit ones or ones that also have good corruptions that are worth something. And even then, things like the Sacred Flame Scepter is gonna be more expensive in comparison the last I checked.

How does one scale up the damage enough for end game on an item with such low base damage?

Yes it’s the current paradoxica of PoE2.
I try to get as much flat/elemental damage a I can on my rings and gloves. Then I stack as much Crit Damage as possible since Tangletongue basically doubles the crit.
Knowing that vaal orbs first divine before corrupting - 100% baals, 0% brain.
It’s only one of the outcomes. There’s also enchantment and extra socket. And you want a well rolled unique for those.

No because then you need it to reroll high crit and not the socket.
It already divines the rolls before corruption multiplying. So a 10% can become over 20% with a single vaal orb and no divines.

I feel like I never see forked spears I have it turned on in my loot filter but still nothing. Are they just really rare or should I try act 2 normal farming for them?
Yeah that’s rough. I won’t even do it without the omen and another piece of gear that’s about the same these days. I kept seeing people have success and I kept getting totally screwed. Lmao. I wanted to sockets in my boots yesterday so I had to go on the damn trade website and find a similar set of boots and buy those in case it went South. It actually worked out though.
When EA dropped I bricked a spear without having to back up but luckily I had some currency or I would have been totally screwed.
